OK there is some real YUCK that goes on.

I swim with the Mack's pillowsoft silicone earplugs.  Well one day I was in the locker room and was taking all of my stuff out of my bag to get ready for my swim.  I placed my swim cap down on the bench with my earplugs and goggles on top of it.  I  turned my back to put my bag in a locker only to turn around and find this 4 or 5 year old kid with my earplugs mashing them in his hands (mother standing right there with him not saying a word.  I look at the kid and at the mom with a kind of annoyed look I guess.  So the mother looks at me and says "Well you left them right there and he saw them"  Umm OK...  She takes them from the kid and hands them to me!  OK I am REALLY going to use them now.. NOT

I would have been like, "Well I can't use them NOW!".

ewwwwwwwww. you guys have some definte YUCK going on.

I agree. Call the police!

I'm lucky because I have NO problems with my YMCA - and they all know I come to swim and don't bother me. Matter of fact, I went in there one morning and they tried to move people out of the lane FOR ME. I was like no no no, I know them! (it was my boyfriend and his sister) lol

I can swim anytime - not just during the designated time. it's awesome.

After reading some of the goings-on in this thread, I now feel lucky that the biggest problem at my Y is that the lifeguards don't enforce the Fast, Medium Slow lanes and we end up with floaters in float belts holding pool noodles drifting up and down the lanes, being pushed along by other swimmers' wakes.

offrhodes - 2009-06-18 11:42 AM Not related to anyone taking my stuff, but just plain weird is this guy that shows up wearing a womens one piece bathing suit.  I thought I was seeing things the first time, but just last week I saw him again.  I just do not get that.

I'm thinking it WAS a chick?  Were there man boobs involved?

x2 Every time I read these threads I appreciate my 6 lane 25M lap swim only pool in a gov't building so no kids, no water aerobics, never more than 2 people per lane at any one time.

Okay, I have a good one.

There is a cd that shows up at my poll occassionally and does water walking in the lane next to the the edge of the pool. A lot of people are doing that in that lane, so there's nothing weird about that. However, she wears a full suit in the pool. Like a full 3 piece skirt suit, with nylons on her legs and everything. She's a larger woman and her hair is curled and she's wearing makeup and a blouse and even a string of pearls around her neck. I haven't mosed over to see if she is wearing shoes or not, but it wouldn't suprise me if she is wearing heels. How weird is that. The first time I saw it, I asked the life guard about it and apparently she comes in often. Weird.

Last time I was at the pool, there were two girls (late teens, maybe?) wearing cutoffs and sports bras in the pool.  Then they headed for the hot tub.  There is no lifeguard at the LA Fitness, and apparently no standards, either.

To the OP, I think you should get some fake vomit or dog poo, and leave it on top of the kickboard.  I'm guessing there wil be fewer people taking it from you!

I am laughing SO hard at these stories! I have never had happen like you guys - but I have had people in the next lane and two lanes over trying to eagle-eye my training plan and follow along. Makes me a bit uncomfortable (the staring). I call them the "copy-catters". But again - nothing as funny as your stories!

O.K., I've got this all figured out.  It's Chaz Bono in the womens swim suit, and Pee Wee Herman sitting on the chair near the hot tub!

BTW. there's a guy that goes to the pool at my gym that weights 3 bills plus, who usually winds up walking in the lane next to me.  He literally causes a current (good training for OWS)

There is an old dude-about say 75 or 80ish-that I see at the pool. The first time I saw him he was showering off under the deck shower-problem was he had loose short style trunks on....and a boner. Sticking straight out. So I thought, okay, guys get 'em at odd times, whatever. But everytime I see him at the pool, he's standing either under the shower or on the deck watching people swim...and sporting a boner.

So thankful that I deal with none of this.  The indoor 50m is for swim meets and masters/team swimmers only.  No kids, etc.  During the summer the doors to the pool are left open to the basketball courts that are full of (mainly) moms and their little ones (who swim in the outdoor pool).  I always walk to the other end of the pool to start, no sense scaring the moms with my Jammers (and having some thread somewhere about a creepy dude in tight swim pants ;>

Well, I was going to start with

"what's up with people stealing your kickboards -- that's crazy!",

and then go on to

"after you took your kickboard back, you should've whopped her on the head with it".

But then I read the rest of the thread, and, well, I have no idea what to say.  I won't be visiting any of your pools any time soon...  Geez.  People are just, well, weird.  (Shakes head.  Goes to bed.)

Wow, I feel really lucky about swimming at 24 hour now...thanks for putting it in perspective

The worst that has happened to me so far was just the other day.  I was sitting in the hot tub after my workout and an older, extremely sweaty and very fat man walked out of the steamroom, very slowly.  He was wearing a short pair of shorts with a liner.  Well let me just say that the 'shorts' part of the shorts were quite a bit shorter than the 'liner' part, and let me tell you...this guy had some grapefruits!!  I was thankful he didn't enter the hottub.

The wierdest thing I had was a couple in the next lane who had something other than swimming on their minds.  Looked pretty close to belonging behind closed doors.  Instructor from the noodle lady class comes over to tell them to cool their jets. They wait til she's busy with the noodle ladies and get humping again....I was so glad to get out of thepool that day.

Someone else (a lifeguard I know) had a fairly regular visitor to the pool in his tidie whities.  Yes, he swam in them.

I am both hysterical w/ laughter and horrified.  The worst I have at the local Y is some bad lane sharers and old women that like to walk around naked in the locker room and chat (yuk) ..that's enough annoyance for  me

At college, one of the profs would wander around the men's locker room naked or in his tighty-whities. With the door wiiiiiiide open. He'd then come swim in said TWs, which were, oh yeah, see-through!. And this was a very small, women's college. Most of the guards (and swimmers, for that matter) had him as a prof. Creeeeeeeepppy!

It is definitely a dude.  he was in coming into the shower the first time I saw him and was just closing up his locker the 2nd time.  Again, no rational thought comes to my head when I try to think about why he would be dressed in a womens bathing suit......Plenty of irrational thoughts do come into my head though.

sounds like a lot of you ought to be seriously taking some of this stuff to the management at the pool/gym. Especially the people thinking the pool is a hotel room! That's just plain illegal (public lewdness) and sick! Glad all I have to deal with is people jumping in my lanes!

I have to add my story, though it's not as freaky as it is annoying.

Several months ago a guy asked to share my lane as the pool was busy that day. No problem. Then he started doing breastroke with the hugest kicks known to man. As I went to pass him from behind, he nailed me in the hand and jammed my middle finger. Now keep in mind, he was on the left, me on the right and he kicked my RIGHT hand. So his kick went across the entire lane. I had to stop and go back to the wall as I was in extreme pain and wondering if I should continue. By the time he came back around, he said, "Oh, did I get you?". I said yes, and he said, "You really need to watch out" and swam away. No apology.

So I decided to continue and came behind him to pass again. I could NOT pass the guy thanks to his ridiculous kick. I stopped him at the wall and explained that I wasn't able to pass. He got a terrible attitude with me and said that it was MY responsibility to figure out how to get around him. Then he said I was wasting his time and swam away. Thankfully, I've never seen this jackhole again.

This wasn't necessarily a weird person....When I was just starting to get in the pool and learn to freestyle (this was February of this year), I was slower than slow.  (Now I'm just slow)  I was pretty proud that I could actually do 50 yds without stopping.  Well, there was this older man, late 70's maybe, in the next lane who was just going and going.  He was just an awesome swimmer!  He got out of the pool, grabbed his walker and hobbled away.

Yeah, I got lapped multiple times by a senior citizen in a walker!
