Signed up today.

Interesting going into a second IM distance race. Totally different perspective.

Okay. So, which is the "real" official thread for this race?

This should be the real one.
They (BT mods) just went in and cleaned up the race names. I will try to get my other one deleted, because it's confusing now. They all used to say Rev3 and no one knew which race was which.
Much better now! I will go try to have them delete my other one that says Cedar Point.

It's the race company's first attempt at a full distance, so I don't think it's going to fill up anytime soon. However I heard a rumor that only the first XX number of registrants get the full GPS tracking from Trakkers for free.

Thanks ahohl!   I'm actually leaning towards the RedMan now because of the huge price difference - $325 vs. $500.  But thanks for the info!

How is everyone's training going?

I did a half marathon on Saturday that went pretty well.
I am doing a HIM on May 23rd to get a feel for how my training is going this year.

Mine has been pretty good despite some crazy hours at work and super crazy family life (4 kids under 6 and wife goes to school still!!!).

I planned for a taper and peak leading to a half marathon May 30, then doing a Half IM June 12 so we'll see where my fitness is after that! Then a recovery week and then back to a build for Sept 12th with a Half IM July 18th just for kicks:-)

I've totally been procrastinating when it comes to booking a place to stay that week so I'll be getting on that soon...

Hope everyone's training is going well!

Slow start for me...but this little note in my TrainingPeaks this week: "45 minute easy run. IM training starts next week."

It was really windy here over the weekend. I did a 50-mile ride in terrible winds. I did have a buddy to draft off in the headwind, but mostly it was a severe crosswind that slowed me down to 13-15mph, and made my hands hurt from steering into the wind to stay straight.
Now I feel like whatever Lake Erie winds I encounter at Rev3 cannot beat me!

I am in Pa, on the lake, and we have been having crazy winds here too!!! I am a charter guide, so wind makes me crazy, and it won't stop!!! Right now we are getting 31 mph gusts, again!! It is sad I have to ride on my trainer in mid may this much... oh well. Great time to catch up on my weak spot, ie. swim. Looks like the wind should subside soon though. For those from out of area, the winds are typically from west to east, so the 1st half of the bike should be fast, second half, likely into the wind to some degree. Low elev. looks to make course fast though! Should be fun. Getting closer every day. I can't wait!

All all the hotels on Cedar point property close together? The website is rather scarce on the details. The Breakers is pretty much sold out but they have rooms at other places on site at the park. Is anyone familiar with how far the other hotels are from the breakers? Also, since it looks like the hotel is in the park, how do you get there to unload luggage, park, etc?

Does anyone know much about the full ironman course.  From the looks of it on the website, it appears to be rather flat with only a few rollers.  Anyone know if this is true?  Anyone know the traffic volume on the roads.  Possible to take a practice ride on the bike course in the month or so prior to the race?

I guess I need to get with it and and register.  :-)

I just rode the main loop for the IM/HIM and we had a pretty good NE wind.  It could be a rough one with wind.  For the most part, the course is relatively flat with a few rollers.

Wind -  :-(   Hills are better than wind!
So, the roads are not too busy to ride the course beofre race day?  Any problems with traffic?

I don't feel the traffic is too bad. You ride on a couple state routes, which vary in amount of traffic, but I don't think it's too bad. There are some pretty long straight aways, so good for aero position. (Unfortunately, those are the open areas too). Yeah, hills were much easier than the wind.

If you go to Cedar Point's web site, you can see a map of the hotels. Most of them ring the parking lot where transition will be. There are mostly along the beaches on the point there.

Amy - When are you thinking of doing a practice ride? Bananatoes and I are both planning to do one, but haven't nailed down a date yet. I am probably not going to be ready for that distance until late July or August. I haven't even done a century yet. Ever.

Is anyone up for riding the course June 26th or 27th? Or even on a weekday the week of the 20th?

I wasn't planning on it until June, but dh is taking the kids out of town for more than a week, and I'd like to take advantage of that time for guilt-free training.

There are a couple people on the Ohio forum I also want to invite, plus a couple from Sandusky whom I met at Triple-T over the weekend.

Nutrition info from Todd Gollnick, in response to my email:

Hi Alice,

Thanks for the e-mail - Cedar Point will be a great and very memorable venue I am sure.

The Bike course will have the Cera Sport in bottles, along with water and GU Energy Gel.

The Run will have Cera, Water, Coke at designated aid stations, and GU Energy Gel - likely from the Roctane line.

Let me know if I can help with anything else,

Best - Todd
