Name: Justin (Justine) Houstonrider

Story: I come from a wrestling back round, but after college I gained a lot of weight and continued to gain weight when I was married. Last April I began cycling as way to improve my fitness and to get into better shape. I scheduled my first tri as a goal to make the training more enjoyable. My first tri was in July of 2009 (Bridgeland)and along the way I met others at Lake 288 and I was hooked.

Family Status: Married for 7 years with four kids:
Morgan -5
Emily-4
Abigail - 2
Everett - 9 months

2009 Races: Focus was to get into better shape, lose weight, and use cycling as low impact means of improving my fitness. 3 Sprints - Bridgeland Sprint, Clearlake Sprint, and Eastside. # Centuries - Katy Flatland, Hotter n Hell, and Purgatory.

2010 Races: Main goals are to finish two 70.3. I'm already registered for Lonestar HIM and will also enter, Escape Oly as a warm up for HIM, Bridgeland sprint, Clearlake Long, and 3 Centuries.

Weightloss: Goal weight is 190lbs. Went from 268 to 205 over the past 2 years.

STORY: I am 6 month old completely addicted newbie. I am a long time team athlete (swimming, volleyball, and softball), but new to the world of endurance.  I have no clue on what I am doing but have been completely dedicated to S/B/R since the day we met!

FAMILY STATUS: 33 years old amd married with two boys who are 7 and 4.  Very little support ……most friends and family think that I am completely NUTS!!!!

CURRENT TRAINING: No plan, but quiet a few miles in all disciplines.  Play v-ball competitively still and spend a lot of time on my core training.

THIS YEAR'S RACES (2010): Not 100% sure yet?  A lot of 5-10K, 2 Half marathon maybe a full, 2-3 sprints, and 1-3 Olympic????  Maybe it is too much not sure yet?

2009 RACES: A lot of 5 and 10Ks and the Chicago super sprint and sprint.   Right now doing some indoor tris for fun.

WEIGHTLOSS:  I am 5’10 and 145 LBS would like to race at 138.

Here's my bio...NAME: EmmaSTORY: I got interested in triathlons about two years ago, and I have finally decided it's time to do one. I am 20 years old and I go to Clemson University. I've never been "the athletic one" in the family that was always my sister's title. I've decided it's time to prove I can also be the athletic one. In high school I rode horses and played volleyball for a couple years. Unfortunately i had to quit riding when I got to college. Riding was pretty much my life so it's been hard to deal with not being able to ride every week. Last year I started swimming a little at the gym in Clemson. I'm definitely not the best swimmer around, but I really enjoyed it (almost as much as riding and that's saying something lol). As of right now, I have a long way to go but I've never been more excited about working out before as I have a real goal to work towards.FAMILY STATUS: I have a boyfriend of 4 1/2 years and a hamster CURRENT TRAINING: As I said I just started. I am currently using the couch to 5k program to help my running. I can't swim until I get back to Clemson after Christmas break as I don't have a pool anywhere near my home so that's going to have to be put off for a couple weeks. Also I am currently looking at buying a bike so right now I am using the stationary bikes at the gym.2010 RACES: Planning on running the Cooper River Bridge Run in Charleston SC in March (10K)Signing up for a couple 5Ks at Clemson once the dates are announced for themRight now, I'm planning on signing up for my first sprint tri in May WEIGHTLOSS: I'd like to get back to the weight I was at a couple years ago which means I've got about ten pounds to lose but I want to focus on my running, biking and swimming first more than weightloss.

NAME: Jezzieswims/Jessica

STORY:
Hi everyone! I'm a 28 year old student from sunny San Diego California. I'm starting my third season of triathlon. I started running 5K's and Half Marathons in 2004. I enjoyed running but wasn't getting any faster and battled injury after injury. I had always wanted to give triathlon a try and had a swimming background. In January of 2008 I started training for my first triathlon and was hooked. My running improved and with all the crosstraining the injuries went away. I really enjoy this sport and have several friends that have gotten into it.

FAMILY STATUS:
My husband and I have been married just over a year now. He's just getting into triathlon and is on BT as Secondalrm.

CURRENT TRAINING:

My season just finished this last weekend so I'm enjoying the next couple weeks of unstructured workouts before I get ready for 2010 (right now at 6-8 hours a week).  I'm taking a week off for snowshoeing and skiing next week then it's back to SBR and Crossfit.

THIS YEAR'S RACES:
2009 was a very long season for me starting in February and ending in mid December. I did 3 sprints, 2 Oly/International, California 70.3 and IMAZ. I am happy with my racing this year and enjoyed training for Ironman. My most challenging race this year was the June Lake Tri, racing at 8500 ft hurt a lot but helped the character building and mental game for Ironman.

2010 RACES/Goals:
I'm still working out 2010, so far I have a Half Marathon in February, International distance tri and California 70.3 in March and then either Vineman or Silverman Half. My goal this season is to work on speed and nutrition. I want to work on going sub 6 hours in a HIM and sub 2 hours in a half marathon.

WEIGHTLOSS: When I started running I was 180 pounds, I've lost 25 pounds and have kept it off for 4 years now. Triathlon and Crossfit have helped me tone up but I could stand to lose 5-10 pounds ( that might help with speed). I need to really watch the nutrition.

I'm looking for a group to keep me honest with the training and nutrition. I participated in the mentoring program last year and found the insight and advice really improved my season and was less likely to slack.

WELCOME!

Justin and his neighbor Larry are the reasons I went from new bike to my 1st century ride in 6 weeks.  They were my unoffical bike coaches.  I got really good at drafting.  I can break the habit if I must during a race.

NAME: Betsy0706/Betsy

STORY: This is my second season of tris.  I always had a love of running but never really learned how to swim.  After watching Evondo and some other friends doing triathlons, I decided to bite the bullet.  Got a swim coach and the rest is history!  Swimming is still my weakest leg but I have made lots of progress considering where I started.

FAMILY STATUS:
 Engaged to our fearless leader!

CURRENT TRAINING: running 4x/swimming 1x – focusing on the Houston ½  (like Ken I am trying to break that 2 hour mark)

2009 RACES: Houston marathon, a du, 3 sprint tris, a 5K and the SA ½ marathon

2010 RACES: Only thing on the schedule thus far is the Houston ½ marathon.  Then get married/honeymoon.  Hopefully a few sprint tris sometime this season.  Also doing a relay ½ IM with my future father and brother in law.  I am doing the run portion.

WEIGHTLOSS: Maintain

Welcome all!  And good seeing ya again Stan!

Trin2bfast - 2009-12-15 8:47 AM Welcome Dan, David, Kevin, Emma, Kimberly & Stanley!    Ken & Keri - welcome too

Todd & Kelli ~ what up?   I know BvD & the hibernator will join in the fun...

I got a feeling this group is gonna be something special.... like back in the day!

Need a few more to join in the fun, so we can blow this thing up!

Train hard~support hard, race harder~support harder, learn from all and become better in all aspects of the tri-life!   Let's get this party started!

Please add everyone to your friends list and make it so we can see your TL (training log). I ask that each of you update your TL on a consistent basis AND look at everyones logs to inspire each other for a job well done or a kick in the @$$ when needed.  Of course respect each other and if you think someone is doing something wrong bring it up in the group thread and lets discuss it. There are many different methods of training and racing, one size does not fit all.

I'll be re-reading some of the bios tonight and going over people's current TLs. Please do the same and start asking questions, mentor groups are only as useful as the participants make it!
