Champion 5868 Urbandale, IA | Subject: RE: Hy-Vee Triathlon : Official Thread Yesterday at 10 am I waded into the water and took the temperature at 71 degrees. currently, the Hy-Vee website lists the temperature at 75 degrees as of noon yesterday. 4 degrees seems like a lot, so I am not sure how they are taking it (laying it just in the water on the beach??). At any rate, it looks to be raising a good deal during the day, but the official temp will be taken either in the morning of the race (early) or the previous morning (checking with the head official now). Temps are expected to remain in the 80's up until race day, so I am going to guess that this race will not be wetsuit legal. That is a guess at this point. I will keepo you all updated. |

I have family that want to come down to watch the race but all they have posted is it starts at 6qm and that is it. I know its a wave start but when do they start letting the waves go. Just so I can plan on when I need to be there and when my family should plan to show up as well. once things get started at 6aM, it's pretty hard to get around as well as in and out of transition. It sucks to have to get the kids there that early, but it is a major pain to get a shuttle in much after that as well. Kind of a pick you poison deal. |

Regular 59 | Subject: RE: Hy-Vee Triathlon : Official Thread I saw that too and was confused. I can only imagine that they were referring to things like hot dogs and popcorn. Certainly there is going to be things like sports drinks, gels, and bananas in transition for any triathlon. That would be crazy to not allow things like that. |

That would be crazy to not allow things like that. Well the specific question was about gels so that's why I was freaking out! I'm very confused. article VII of the USAT rule book covers transition area conduct. no where does it forbid nutrition (other than glass containers - 7.5) from the transition area. the only place where i can find this even mentioned is on facebook where who knows is posting on that thing. i have never heard of nutrition being forbidden from transition at any of the races i have done. on the slim chance this is true, there will be a lot of pi$$ed off athletes out there. word will get around. i am planning on bringing my gels into transition and giving anyone hell that tires to stop me |

Can athletes have items like this at their transition locations?Hy-Vee Triathloni apologize but no food items are allowed in the transition locations. I just sent an email to the Head Referee for the event. This is just silliness. Too many examples where lack of nutrition would exclude people, plus it is part of the sport and in no way illegal. Gatorade Endurance is a sponsor, but they are not the same thing. |

Something about having an intern answer questions and nobody catching this one until several people e-mailed them about it. All of the nutrition that you would normally bring into transition is allowed. Heck, Hy Vee sells most ofd the stuff that many of us would bring in. |

We fit a younger girl to a P2 the other day. I've got to work until Sat afternoon, so I'm angling to catch the last packet pickup/pre-race briefing. |
