GoFaster - 2010-09-09 11:05 AM Wishing all of you the best of luck in the race this year.

For those wondering about what to wear, I certainly think the arm warmers is the way to go.  Will keep you warm, and if you get too warm then simply roll them down - perfect for both bike and run.  I wouldn't bother with a long sleeve top.

Yep arm warmers are the way to go.  Easy on, even when wet, and you can roll them down or take them off easily if you get hot.

Good luck everyone!

I am here and setup is underway!  Courses are partially marked and I rode the run course.  If you haven't seen it you can get a peak here.

I'm heading up in a couple of hours! I'm feeling strangely calm...that can't be good!

Have a great race everyone! Keep warm, keep dry - at least we won't overheat, right?

How did everyone's race go?

Mine was...interesting..to say the least.

Things were going great until km 40 in the bike, then my rear derailleur exploded.  Took me a while but someone was finally able to give me a chain breaker and I was able to shorten my chain into a single speed - 52x24.  This ended up being a little hard up the hills and a little too easy on the down hills and flats.  But at least I was able to continue and finish I completed the last 54k in about 2:03 according to the garmin.  The waiting and repairs cost me about 40 minutes of standing around.

Hope everyone else was a little more successful.

Sorry to hear about your mis-fortune Danrl88.  good on you for sticking the frustration out and finishing.

My happened on the ride from the airport to transition,  back tire blew out.  This was my first time at this race, i found it to be quite enjoyable and as usual for a Trisport North organized event very well run.

Sorry to hear about your bike woes!

I had a grea race! No major issues. I've come a long way with the swim and I am just thrilled that it all went without a hitch. The weather was a little cool. I was happy to have armwarmers for the bike and was glad for no real wind.

Saw some fun things on the bike as i ended up alone for quite some time.  there was a house at the start of South Portage that had some freerange chickens wandering around.  When I turned onto Brunel Rd there was heron sitting very majestically in the water to the right. Also saw a couple chimpunks that may have met their deaths due to the race :S

All in all very well organized. Had a great time and was sooo happy to get my green m-dot medal!!!!

Thanks.

I also saw the herring, and one poor chipmunk.  Although it was on an uphill so I dont know what kind of chipmunk gets run over by a cyclist going up hill at maybe 15-20km/h - must be Darwinism at its finest.

I passed you looking for the chain breaker, felt bad that I didnt have one.  There was quite a few guys in the last 10 k that where having problems too, I felt so bad for the guy who with around 6 k to go and he was walking his bike with his chain over his shoulder.

Saw the chipmunks and one mouse, I thought the same thing about darwinism.

My race went really well, I was under trained and I knew it so I went out slow in the swim and didnt push myself at all, still made my goal time.  I did better than I expected on the bike, actually thought for a min that I was enjoying the hills.  The run, that was an issue, I went out strong and felt great for the first 5 k, then my ITBS flared and just got worse and worse, I lost probably close to 40 mins on the run because of all the walking and stopping to streatch.  I hurt but I saw so many people who where hurting way worse than me.

The icing on the cake was on the way back to the car.  I had all my gear in my backpack and was making the SLOW ride back the the airport when I rode over something and got a flat.  At least it wasnt during the race and in the rain.

Congrats to all who got throught this one, but what are we going to do now? I am currently looking for a new goal, having relized I dont have time to train for a full and enjoyed the 70.3, another 70.3 IM. I dont want to do a multi loop course but would appricate some ideas. I am about 2hrs from ottawa so travel will be a bit of an issue (8hr drive time is doable though, thanks for the imput and once again congrats on the Muskoka.

Congrats to everyone as well!  My race went well I would say for the most part.  The swim was awesome and it felt better then any of my swims during training.  About 1/2 through the bike my left knee started to hurt something fierce (runners knee), thinking it's related to my bike fit.  Going to have to get myself sorted out before my 5 year plan of completing a full Ironman.  Anyways, I pushed through the bike and couldn't wait to start the run....or so I thought....lol.  I got out on the run and was hurting bad but after finding an interesting running technique, it made the pain less as long as I didn't stop running.  Overall all though, I enjoyed the entire race from start to finish and can't wait to do it again.  I agree with "BostonRedSox", what do we do now??  This morning I was already looking at my next 70.3 and was considering Calgary 70.3 in July 2011.  It would be good b/c I have family out there so I could save $ on hotels.  Has anyone ever travelled with their race bike on a plane and if so was it a pain or easy to manage??  Wish everyone a speedy recovery and glad everyone enjoyed their experience!

Anyone know when Muskoka opens for 2011 registration?

Also, if anyone has done Muskoka and Savageman I'd be really interested  in the comparison between the two courses.  I've done Muskoka a few times and know the course well...but don't know much about Savageman past the 31% Westernport Wall climb.Wink

You're from Ottawa.  There's a slew of fast Ottawans who have been doing SavageMan every year.  Rick Hellard, Olivier Moyau, Tom McGee, James Young, Rob McColluch.  Probably one of them can help you.  But, suffice it to say, SavageMan's bike course is about a lot more than just the Westernport Wall.  Go check out the website, www.savagemantri.org, it's got a lot of pages dedicated to the bike course, including Big Savage Mountain and the real bad boy - Killer Miller.

I'm surprised the web site still has the 2010 date on it.. I'm sure registration for 2008 was open before this date.... maybe the rumours are true and they are considering making it a full distance !!

Have to remember that 2008 sold out faster than any other 70.3, 2009 did really well, but 2010 had much lower numbers.

The race is listed on the IM website as a 70.3 event for Sep 11, 2011, but you are right about the staus of the Subaru Muskoka website, it han't been updated since the last race.

Has any one heard anything credible about Muskoka possible going Ironman?
That is an exciting rumour. Makes sense with all of the local  long distance junkies.

It is strange that their web-site is not updated. Syracuse is good competition and the same stretch of September. And it's a fun fast course.

But I'd rather stay in Can and race a new challenge in Muskoka!

I contacted Trisports and asked about the rumour that Muskoka was looking to go Ironman.
Official word is no.  However, the suggestion was made that you can always race the course twice...as long as you can make the 8 and a half hour cut off.
