Hmm, Tom--

from your post, it appears that you aren't having a snack, you're having a soap opera!!

Soap Opera is good, but to truly capture the epic scale of this sanswich, you would have to call it a concert. A concert with every piece, pb, Fritos, honey and jelly, teasing and cajoling each other to even greater levels of sensation and grandeur. A cacophony of taste and texture that truly makes my head spin....

God help me.

Do not be afraid of the peanut butter! Run into its arms and give it the love it deserves! I am pretty sure that I will have two or three Peanut Butter Gauchos prior to my bike ride this afternoon, and that's all good!

Wow, the thread that will never die.

Long Live Peanut Butter!

On a related note, I get my current PB fix from Crunchy Peanut Butter Cliff bars. All the taste, with not quite so much of the guilt.

I'll just have a little more. Only a little. It won't hurt anyone... Can't you understand? I need it. Besides, I can afford it, so who am I hurting? I have to have its creamy waves, its moist curves and...ohhhhh...the way it explodes on my taste buds... its rich, oh-so serious nature perfectly complemented by the frivolous, tangy-sweet strawberry preserves....

Subject: Refrigerate?
I started buying old-fashioned pb -- just peanuts and salt. I got irritated that everything else has transfats. What the ? Anyhow, I just today noticed that the jar says it should be refrigerated to retard oil separation. Well, I haven't been doing that and it's been just fine. I have a special technique that even fixes the problem. It's called STIRRING! Geez, the Publix people must think we're idiots. Anyway, I've been eating PBJ sandwiches (natural pb, stawberry preserves on Earthgrains honey whole grain bread) for several weeks now and I think they're miraculous workout food. So much energy from such a humble nut!

On a refrigeration related note -- I just recently noticed that my blueberry syrup was supposed to be refrigerated as well. Well, it's been sitting in my pantry for at least four months, after having been opened and I didn't notice any ill effects from my waffle binge this weekend. Do you ever wonder if food manufacturers are just toying with our heads? Maybe it's just me. I'll eat just about anything past its expiration date or badly handled as long as it smells good.

But back to peanut butter.

Life flies fast and fleet
Add pb -- gooey brown treat
Turns me into child

All hail brown gold!

IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT!!

I just came back from the break room, where I had a slice of lightly toasted bread with a nice layer of pb smoothed over it with a bit of honey drizzled on top.

I ate it in about 4 bites and 13 seconds.

sigh...

Jeez! I guess I *like* peanut butter, but I don't think about it so much... And I've certainly never written a haiku, poem or ode to it! (But very nice work, everyone!) Maybe I should leave work immediately, go home, and eat peanut butter straight from the jar... paying close attention, so I can see what all this fuss is about! I'm really not getting much work accomplished anyway....(!) ha ha.

TGIF, everyone! The weather is too nice here in Northern Illinois to be sitting inside typing peanut butter notes... I need to get out there and bike. "See" you all on Monday!

Ahh lucky you. I'm stuck here at work, looking out the window, with neither peanut butter, nor possibility of biking today.

Noticed you are in Crystal Lake! Cool, as I'm just south in Algonquin. Lots of biking on the Prairie Trail for me planned tomorrow. Swimming planned for afterwork today.

ode: 2

What glistens like morning dew
Bronzed like the evening sun
Is thicker than the mightiest yew
Sweeter than bubble gum

Its stark, endless swirls
sticky, clingy, goopy and bare
Taunt you like fickle girls
addictive, so be ware

It's Friday and I'm getting paid
lots of money for what I've learned
While I whittle away the day
Writing about that which I yearn

Peanut butter.

Welcome back to MONDAY MORNING!

I rode the bike path (going North) Saturday AM.... Maybe I saw you on the trail? I did pass quite a few serious looking bikers...

Pass in the opposite direction, mind you, not pass as in full throttle overtaking on the Prairie Path, where the Speed Limit = 15mph.

Turned around just north of McHenry. Where did you ride?

Since this is a peanut butter thread, I suppose I should at least mention the creamy (or crunchy) delight.... There you go... peanut butter.

Well, I received some complaints as I released an ode on Thursday, so here is a rerun to tide you over until I get back.  And for a preview of my next ode in 12 days: "Ode, Cancun" it will start something like this;

I return from the beach: weary, bleary and tan

much poorer after my stay in the yukatan

LaBoom, Coco Bongo, Senior Frogs

My mouth still tastes like hair of the dog....
