Howdy, team BT!

My name is Emily.  I'm a former challenge junkie who took a little break from challenge participation during a busy, busy summer.  Now that it's the off-season, I'm finding that I need a little extra motivation to get back in gear.  And we all know that the challenge forum is the place to be when you need motivation.

Oh, my sister does make the recipe with ground pork (you can get that here easily) and chitlin-type bits for flavor.

Hey team!

My name's Emma.  I'm a student at Clemson University... just started my senior year and an internship on campus so I'm pretty busy.  I got into triathlons this year and right now I'm looking to work on my running and biking.  I'm gonna start from scratch with running to see it I can get my shin splints under control and I'm hoping that next spring I can do a half marathon.  Also looking to build up my endurance on the bike and complete an olympic tri next year.

Let's kick some Ghoulie butt!!

Hi Emma! I went to Davidson for a couple years and so was very familiar with Clemson ... even went down there once for something, although for the life of me now I can't remember what. (I may also have imbibed *slightly* more than was strictly necessary during my college years). What are you studying?

Very wise to ease into the running--very easy--shin splints are often the symptoms that something isn't right or is getting injured.

I'm in Marketing with a health science minor... looking at going to grad school for my MBA next year.  Although right now I just wish I could stay here for 5 more years... I love it so much.  Definitely not ready to leave or that whole "getting out into the real world" thing everyone keeps talking about

Hey kids,

Duane's the name.  I'll keep it short for now, and simply ask - uh - what's a "hasher"?

Ok.  BTW

Hello fellow Ghoulie CRUSHERS!  As you can see from my most original of screen names, my name is Bill.  I just capped off my third season of tris with the Syracuse IM 70.3.  I was a challenge junkie for about a year straight, but have been out of the challenges for a few months.  Need to get moving on my off-season training program...  I've gained 6 lbs. since I crossed the finish line in Syracuse, so at this rate, I'll weigh about 350 by New Years! Embarassed

Biking and running is my focus this month.  I played racquetball at lunch today and will start knocking off the bike/run workouts on Monday.  The one issue I have is that my "pain cave" (basement) is out of commission.  We're awaiting new carpet, hopefully next Tuesday.  Until then, no treadmill or trainer for morning workouts.

Have a great weekend!

Hashing is a running/base level orienteering challenge.  A trail is left by a "Hare" (one or more chaps out earlier than the pack).  the pack of Hashers (Hash Hound Harriers) follow the trail, there are set symbols to follow meaning different things, directions, distance etc.  the idea is to follow the trail left and have fun doing it.

By the way, to Duane--nice to be on a team with you, after I tossed you to the winning team last time

Actually ... really ... the Hashers just get together and drink a lot and engage in completely inappropriate banter. The running (or walking, or ... wandering and waddling) is entirely incidental.

Huh. It DOES sound like the Ghoulies.

It is, however, so much fun that even I as a nondrinker have a blast.

Like getting wickedly lost out in BFE, in rice paddies, it's getting dark, no humans in sight, the only animals being bugs and cobras, and I'm like, WTF.

QueenZipp - 2010-10-01 11:56 PM Ooooh, that looks certifiably yummy!

I did some core and upper body strength work today.
I am NOT a happy camper with all that's going on with my leg.  Kinda thinking I should rename the blog "total suckage"

Troof. And you have been rally, raelly good.

Remember, though, your work life could still be operating on the Suck-O-Meter and THEN it would be total suckage. Right now it's just Half-A-Suckage.

Ya know, Yanti....if it weren't for the bum leg and not being able to run my azz off in the ER, I almost wouldn't mind the SUCK O METER days cause I miss most of the former co workers.  I sit on my bum all day at work and my leg is no effing better.

Heh...they recently shut down a parking garage at the local university for a "suspicious white powder".  It turned out to be flour that hashers were using to mark the trail.  Good stuff.

First run of the month is in the books!  And what a beautiful day for a run.  I need to move somewhere that has this weather year round.  70s, sunny, low humidity.  A runner's paradise!

Enjoy your Friday night, everyone!  Just don't enjoy it too much - we have training to do tomorrow!

Indeed, we have training to do tomorrow. And the next. Apparently, the Ghoulies don't do it that way

I guess it's time for me to jump in. My name is Kathy and this is my second year of triathlon. Last year I was training with a group of women, most of whom aren't really that serious about training. This year I was on my own and got a late start because I just wasn't feeling the push. I did my first tri for the year in August, and my last two back to back in September. Last year I gained five pounds over the holidays...mostly just Thanksgiving...and it took me approximately six months to lose it. I don't want that to happen again, so I entered this challenge to keep me moving.

I am working on running and swimming. I need help on the bike, also, but I could only pick two and running is my weakness. I recently hooked up with a master's swim group so I have access to someone who can really help me with my swimming and is very eager to do so, so this seemed like the perfect opportunity to take full advantage.

I'm really looking forward to blowing away the competition (for once, ha ha).
