Ok I am in.  But I'm not giving up my diet coke.  its one of my few pleasures in life right now.

I want to loose wieght but I am done being a slave to the scale.  I want all my size 4 things to be loose and to get closer to fitting into my size 2 things.  How is that?

No more than 10% of my calories from junkie food

Complete all scheduled training weather/body permitting

Log all food in the nutrition section of my blog

look at me eating honeydew melon instead of something processed.  One of my big issues is I tend to eat the healthy food, then I follow up with an unhealthy snack.  Hungry or not, I just tend to do that.  If I just dropped that habit alone...

I was all ready to have my 1 serving size of Dark chocolate last night, but I almost skipped my workout. So I said no workout no chocolate, hopped on the bike trainer for 45mins by the time I was done I didn't want the chocolate anymore, win/win workout and no chocolate

I did have 1 cup of chocolate milk though (my typical post workout "recovery drink"), still a lot less cal/fat

Hit the store yesterday and stocked up on plenty of fruits and vegetables. I have meals planned for the rest of the week. I picked up some mineral water with essence of lime, lemon and orange to take the place of juice and diet soda. It tastes pretty good (for zero calories and no real or fake sweetener) and is nice and refreshing post workout. It's also helped me keep my water intake where it needs to be.

I've done that.  I like some more than others.  A local grocery store (Wegman's) has a store brand that isn't too bad, but some of them just taste too much like I'm sucking on a rock.

I would agree on some brands.

You motivated me!  Off to the store for fruits and veggies and healthy food.  Meal planning is not my forte..do you have any favorite recipes you want to share?

I'd be happy to share, I love cooking.

I made tacos this evening (a slightly healthier take on carne asada)

8 oz of meat (lean beef, chicken, pork or tofu) I used a lean grass fed beef but anything will work

1 lime

1 orange

1 tablespoon soy sauce

1/2 teaspoon ground cumin

hot sauce

Marinate meat in the juice of 1 lime and 1 orange, 1 tablespoon soy sauce, 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin, hot sauce to preferred spice level. Place in fridge and allow to marinate for a couple hours. When ready to grill heat your bbq to medium high and grill until done, if you're doing beef give it about 3 min a side for thinner cuts then let rest for 5 min before cutting.

For taco veggies

1 green bell pepper seeded and sliced into thin strips

1 red bell pepper seeded and slice in to thin strips

1 red onion halved and thinly sliced

2 portabello mushrooms cleaned  and sliced into strips

(I sometimes add squash to this mix if I have it)

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 tablespoon chili powder

1 lime

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

Salt and pepper to taste

(this can all be done on the stove if you don't have a bbq) Heat a large cast iron pan over the bbq then add olive oil. Add onions and saute until they become translucent (about 5 min), push onions aside and add mushrooms, allow these to cook down then add peppers. Allow all vegetables to cook until they become soft. Once vegetables have cooked down add spices and lime juice along with salt and pepper to taste.

I serve the meat and veggies in corn tortillas or over lettuce with avocado and salsa.  It will appeat that there are a lot of veggies for two people but they are nice and filling and help me get in my 5-7 servings per day.

I may have to make that as well! I am a taco freak.

I've started the spreadsheet and I've emailed everyone that shared their address with me.  If you don't have access to the spreadsheet, please PM me your email address so I can add you to the list. Please feel free to edit, modify, or reformat any part of the spreadsheet that you need to, to meet your needs.  As long as it doesn't get deleted, I don't care what we do to it.  I just simply started it out.  Add columns, rows, etc. if you need to.

I've been pretty good the past few days!
Today I ate eggs, bacon, and skim milk for breakfast (bacon not the greatest, but fits in well with Paleo)
A pretty intense workout (5 x 400m run on the 3 minute with overhead squats when not running)
And then a double serving of whey protein with a little bit of plain yogurt and pineapple chunks.

I'm lovin' the motivation this is giving me!!  This is EXACTLY what I needed...so THANKS to all of you for getting me jumpstarted!  I have two races this weekend, so my carb intake may get a little spiked.

I just signed into the spreadsheet for the 1st time and have one concern - what are the dates for each of the listed weeks so that we can keep track? I hadn't actually started the challenge yet because I was waiting for the spreadsheet, so I will jump in officially for the day 8-14 time period.

I altered my goals to suit the tracking style better.

DAILY 1-no pop. 2-no garlic dip. 3-no oversized portions. 4-five+ servings veg/fruit daily. 5. Log food daily.

BIG GOAL 6. Cut 10cm from waist.

No cheat days... I really want to develop these habits and will take the hit when I cheat.

Or... I could start today if everyone is ok with me not having counted the previous days for this segment. I still need to know what day we are on please.

I was also planning to start next week, but can count this week if need be. I know that at least planning on the challenge helped me make some better choices this week!

I am going to try to make my goals in a format that I can check off daily, rather than larger esoteric goals like 'eat better'. I'll put the updated ones on the spreadsheet.

Yesterday and today I started my day with a walk. The ME guys recommend 30-60 minutes of walking a day. This doesn't count as exercise, it's more for metabolic training. I realize just how many hours I sit, and how unnatural that is for our bodies - tight hip flexors and shortened quads start complaining a bit at the beginning of the walks, but by the end I feel looser and more at peace, ready to start my day.

I've got a week of TONS of computer time as I finish 4 college courses this week with lots of short papers due. I hope to take walking study breaks throughout.

Hey challengers...I am writing here to share some good news!  After less than a week of eating better, I feel awesome!!  I've had more energy this week, I've skipped less workouts, and I've been feeling less bloated after cutting out the gluten.

In even BETTER news...I won my age group in a one mile OWS race this morning!!   And here's the kicker.  I've probably swim less than 15,000 yards all year so far.  How's that for feelin' better after a good week of clean eating?!?!

I did eat a bagel this morning after the race, but I needed those quick carbs to replenish my glycogen (I ate it with a protein shake) and shuttle some much needed protein into my muscles.  My triceps are sore!!

So thanks to everyone for just BEING there and motivating me!  This is exactly what I need.  Tomorrow I have a sprint tri to conquer...one of the most difficult sprints that I race yearly. Three 100-foot bridge climbs in the first 6 miles of the course.  Hopefully my new rocket ship will propel me to a bike PR.  I feel great today after the swim race so tomorrow's 536m swim will feel like nothing after fighting the current for 1600m this morning!

Hope everyone is having a great weekend so far.

Congrats Q! and good luck tomorrow!

I actually started the day this thread started, so the 21st. I think all our time tables will be slightly off.  Goals have been going well, still need to tweak things a bit, I decided to spread out my cheat day. So instead of eating bad all day, I have 3 meals to use throughout the week staying in the guideline of not exceeding my max 2300cal/day (2000 normal

Had a bit of and off day yesterday, injured my ankle somehow the night before while running, worked a 12hr shift on my feet which didn't help, ended up skipping my workout to rest and ended up taking in a bit of extra calories. Working all weekend, trying to keep off the ankle as much as possible, I'm hoping the bike trainer tonight won't bother it.

Good luck on the tri Q.

My goals have not been going so well.  I only have two of course, lose 5 pounds and get 20% protein in.  No weight loss yet and not hitting that protein goal at all.  I think I just need to plan ahead better.
