Ironman 70.3 Eagleman Triathlon : Official Thread (Page 3)

Plenty of people run a disk and a deep front on race day.  In my opinion race on what you always use.  Don't show up with a "special" set of wheels just because its windy.  I think the only time I've ever seen it out of control windy was in 2006 when it was gusting to 40-50 MPH.  Other than that, if you live in the Mid-Atlantic region its no more windy they a typical day near water or farms.  

Got the email today, my waiting list spot opened up!

So, my dilemma is now the schedule;

No real races before 6/10, but then:

6/10/12 Eagleman

6/24/12 Philly OLY (could change to Sprint if I wanted)

7/8/12 Rhode Island HIM (WTC 70.3), paid for

7/22/12 Xterra (sport distance=sprint-like), paid for

8/18/12 USAT AG Championship, paid for

9/9/12 70.3 Worlds(if I qualify)

About me: Age Grouper, in the 45-49 range.  By the fall, I had shoulder, calf, and ankle issues leading up to a marathon in November, and trained for my first HIM over the summer, with an OLY and 100 mile mountain bike race.  Everything seems to be healed up now, though there is a bit of pain in the shoulder still.  Doc didn't find anything significant, just an irritated AC joint.  I'm faster than this time last year, and have upgraded to a TT bike, looking to stay/improve on top 10% of AG.

So, should I have my head examined as well?  I was kind of planning on not getting a slot at Eagleman, so I signed up for Rhode Island.

Why should/shouldn't I do Eagleman?  Another goal is to get to Vegas in September for 70.3 championships.  So I'll have two shots now.

I'll bite.

Have you looked at the time's that got Vegas Slots last year in your age group at both Eagleman and RI? Keep in mind after a successful race in Vegas last year as it's first year that, expect it to get a little tougher to qualiy as I bet slots won't roll down so far anymore.  Just something to think about.

What's your best 70.3 and where does that stack up against the qualifiers?  Eagleman's course always brings out the fastest AG people in the area and from other regions. It's one of the only qualifiers for Kona as well as Vegas at 70.3 on the mainland.  

OK, I'm kind of a data geek, but how do you tell who qualified for the different slots from results?

Ya know, interesting question I guess.  Tricolumbia in the past would post the kona and 70.3 WC qualifiers on their site under the results section. I don't see it there anymore.  That stinks.  I guess the best way is to pull your AG results from Vegas and then match those names against Eaglman results and RI results and get a "best guess"

Are any wait-listers who got slots having issues paying on the site?  I plug the numbers in, and I get "Error has occurred.  Please contact the system administrator".

Not a good feeling when you just punched in your credit card info.

I've already email registration and the info@tri... address, haven't heard anything back.

UPDATE: Called Tricolumbia, they hadn't heard of any problems, but took my CC info, and while they also had an issue with the site, it went through.

2009 was the last wetsuit legal year.  2010 and 2011 were the only years in the history of the event where wetsuits were not allowed.  Not sure if that's a trend of things to come or just some anomaly...I guess be prepared for either scenario. 

Oh dear god.  Your back for more punishment as well?!

It did warm up during the run but it wasn't too bad. The water temps also weren't bad as I heat up real quick in a wetsuit and I wore a full and stayed cool during the swim. However, chances are you will be racing in an oven. But you can always hope for 2008 weather.

Whoopsy.  You are correct.  2009 was the year I raced Eagleman and we had tolerable conditions.  My bad.  Here's hoping you guys get 2009 E-Man weather.

Overcast works just fine for me.  I've paid my dues on that course in the heat.  I'd even take light rain or snow at this stage of the game.  God knows I'm getting use to running when its less than freezing out there...

Sunday morning I ran and it was 21 degrees out and windy, and after five minutes I actually felt comfortable for the rest of the run.  Amazing how the body acclimates. 

I remember reading all the 2008 Race Reports when I was preparing to race E-Man and every single RR was tales of carnage upon carnage on the Run Course due to hellish heat.   

I did hear one secret to having a superior race at Eagleman is to eat Maryland fried oysters the night before.  Sorry if I let your secret out of the bag Fred.
