That's a Big Party !!

Using the calorie calculator ( runner s world website)
i reckon my turkey trot could burn 1270 calories
Wonder if that's enough to break even on the day ?

It's just me on Team World. I think I can handle that, although I had to lessen goal to 80 miles. Husband's work schedule has gone nuts leaving me little time to run.

Glad to have you on board . If you would like more company you can join one of the other teams , or maybe wait a couple more days for reinforcements .

5.5 miles at lunch today - I'll have to do the Garmin math when I get home, but I think I might have run a PR 5k over the last 3.1 miles...  Does that count? LOL

Only counts if you do a race report for it! Congrats on the new found speed -- yet another bonus for getting out the door these cold days.

Not sure that it is actually "cold" here in TX...  shorts and short sleeves today at lunch about 50 deg with a 15mph breeze from the N

I did the math - 29:26 - 35sec improvement on my 5k PR  - HA! I guess the secret is to run 2.4 miles first...  I really need to back off a bit on the speed for the rest of the week and just get in some base miles.  Too much, too fast = increased risk of injury...

Not even close Wink  Using that, looks like with the warmup would be about 830 for me.  Kind of surprised there isn't a factor for "effort"

I am roughly following the Barry P 1:2:3 program which is popular over on Slowtwitch and I really like the structure right now.  I am currently at 4-8-12 so I have 3 short runs of 4 miles, 2 medium runs at 8 miles and 1 long run at 12 miles.  I am adding some intensity to one of the medium runs at this point.

I had a look at this program and it looks interesting.  My goal this fall/winter is to work on building volume to my run.  I don't have any scheduled events planned.  I was following this plan ( http://www.trailrunevents.com/ul/schedule-50m.asp) and I'm currently on week 4 - so far so good and it's all manageable but when I look ahead - I just wonder how good it is to be doing such short runs mid-week and then a big one on the Saturday.  When I compare the volumes to both plans - they are both relatively similar with Barry P's being slightly higher but seems safer that it's more evenly distributed.

Curious to hear what others think...?  I don't have a lot of run-specific knowledge - just moving my feet one in front of the other.

You are using a training plan designed for a 50 mile ultra to build mileage?  That plan ramps up pretty quick and just looking over your logs and monthly volume I would not recommend using that plan.  That would just be a good way to get injured.  The Barry P is a more sustainable plan and allows you to build mileage alot safer.

I think you are just under a 3:6:9 ratio to start with which puts you at 30 miles/wk.  I would increase mileage by increasing those miles just slightly each week and evaluating how you feel after each week.  I have been super cautious about building my mileage going from 25 to 35 miles/wk in probably 10 weeks so just a gradual increase.  Feel free to start at 2.5:5:7.5 or whatever you think is a good starting point based on the last couple weeks.

Hot shower followed by hot coffee .  I run all winter outside so this is not bad.  I am trying not to think about the 15 degree morning with wind and snow that is sure to come pretty soon.

I have been on the Barry P plan for about 6 weeks now - just about to hit my 3-6-9 mark.  I am hoping to get to a half marathon on New Year's Eve...  So far I have been happy with my progress.

The hardest part for me  is running slow enough on the recovery days.  I also am struggling to not push too hard on the other days.  I have to tell myself that this is about building distance and base right now - speed work will come later.  Obviously I was unsuccessful yesterday...

Yes Embarassed

I didn't really know what to use given I have no end goal defined.  I am taking it slow and if a particular week is tough I'll just repeat it or not increase the long run as quickly but yes... looking at it I had concerns about such small runs mid week and such a rapidly increasing long run on the Saturday.  Thanks for the feedback.  I think I'll switch over - Might mean I don't hit my monthly goal after all but I have NO interest in getting injured!!

Hi Guys!  I hope everyone is doing good!  I've been running even though I'm fighting a mild cold.  I hope I'll feel well enough on Sunday to do my long run.  We'll see.  I'm taking it easy right now.

I've also been a bit depressed about my tri bike.  The seat post clamp is broken.  Unfortunately, it is not repairable because it is integrated into the carbon frame.  I'm getting a new frame under warranty, though!  I'm glad it didn't happen during race season.  I usually put it away for the winter about now.  No rush on getting the new frame built into a complete bike.  I can't wait to see the new one!
