Master 9705 Raleigh, NC area | Subject: RE: Full Vineman Triathlon : Official Thread It looks like there may be more bike transport options for those of us coming from the east coast. Race Day Transport is serving our race. I contacted them and they said, "If we are able to green light a route, round trip bike only transport from your region would cost $299." Any other east coasters interested? http://racedaytransport-webcart.com/2012-Vineman-Full-Vineman07282012.htm |

Elite 3658 Roswell, GA | Subject: RE: Full Vineman Triathlon : Official Thread We might be. We have a friend who has volunteered to drive the bike's out there from Atlanta, but that seems like to much to ask someone to do. Also, I think we can fly the bikes out with us for $300 round trip, and I might feel better having them with me.
Did they mention when they would know if they were going to do this or not? Thanks for the heads up. |

We are staying in California for the week after the event and don't want to haul the bike with us. This seemed like a good option given that constraint.
Did they mention when they would know if they were going to do this or not? No, he did not give a timeframe, just said that if there was enough interest he would let me know. |

Champion 5781 Northridge, California | Subject: RE: Full Vineman Triathlon : Official Thread I'm in (or at least should be...gave my share of a 3-for-2 signup to a friend today who's doing the online registration for us tomorrow). Here's my li'l bio thingee... Name: Todd Location: So Cal First Ironman (if no, how many): This will be my 3rd Why did you sign up?: Decided to do one more IM and "call it a career" at that distance...my wife decided to do Barb's Race again this year, so it made sense to go ahead with the Full VM...was injured in a fall on the beach (go figure) 20 days before Vineman in 2009 which ruined my run, so this is a bit of a "revenge" match... What questions do you have: None...and I can certainly answer a lot of them: This'll be my second time for this race (first was in 2009), plus I've done the 70.3 once (2008) and did the full swim as part of a relay last year (my wife did the bike leg...and she did the Barb's Race half in 2009). What is your goal?: I'll be happy with anything under 12:30, but I'd certainly like a sub-12 and I think I might even have an 11:30ish time in me. Main goal, this time, though, is to get to the starting line uninjured...figure the rest will take care of itself. I don't have much vacation time available and we're staying in freebie lodging at a winery (so we can't be particular about the number of nights), so we'll be arriving on Friday midday and leaving Sunday afternoon. Coming off of a pretty successful marathon Sunday, so swim training starts in earnest tonight, cycling tomorrow. |

New user 22 Visalia | Subject: RE: Full Vineman Triathlon : Official Thread In My 7th week of official training for this race and so far so good, how is everyone else doing with training? I am looking to get up to the course in the next month for some biking. Name: Gerard Location: Visalia, CA First Ironman: Yep first one Why Did you sign up: Did the 70.3 last year and after finishing that race, I felt good enough that the next step was to do the full this year. What Questions Do You Have : Do you get out of the water halfway through the Swim to get back to where you started for the second loop? What is your goal? : 1 To finish the race. 2 Hopefully with a smile on my face. 3 before it gets completely dark.

You do not get out of the water before the second loop. The start is in the water on the far side of the river (its pretty narrow) and the second loop justing continues around. You can see the race clock on shore as you come around which is nice to see how you are doing. Since the start is in waves unless you are in the first wave you will need to subtract time. I forgot that and was actually nine minutes faster than the clock said.

Should we start posting monthly totals to get inspired/motivated/scared? Training is going great despite the horrible, cold, rainy, windy weather we have been enduring. I've yet to ride outdoors yet but have put in my time on the trainer. I'm running a marathon tomorrow morning so pretty pleased with how the off-season running base has been progressing. We just need things to warmup another 10-15 degrees. I am envious of you all in the sunny southern parts of the country. I'm sure my monthly totals would be put to shame though by some of the mega numbers I've seen people put up. |

Elite 3658 Roswell, GA | Subject: RE: Full Vineman Triathlon : Official Thread Weather has been good here. 50's in the morning and highs near 80. In a few weeks it will be miserably hot and humid though. My training has been pretty good. I ran a good marathon two weeks ago, and now I'm starting to hit the bike. I'm still swimming just enough.
I like the idea of throwing up the monthly numbers. It's always helps to get a feel for where everyone is at. We need to do something to get this thing hoppin'. A good BT Race Group makes the race and training a lot more fun. |

Should we start posting monthly totals to get inspired/motivated/scared? My training has been going well here, thanks to the ridiculously warm March we've had (no snow ). I'd love to see some monthly totals but I'm pretty sure that'll freak me out since everybody seems to be way ahead of me! Hopefully I'm able to do this thing! |

Champion 5781 Northridge, California | Subject: RE: Full Vineman Triathlon : Official Thread Just started meaningful swim and bike training last week...was focused on LA Marathon before that (which went very well, so run training has been back-burnered a little for now). This week is really my first full-on week of S/B/R since last fall...depending on how things go this weekend, I'll have about 100 miles of riding, 26 miles of running and 4500 yds of swimming this week and a total of about 12 hours of training. That's a perfectly adequate base for IM training in my experience, so I'm going to mostly be playing by ear over the next four months and trying to avoid the injuries that got in the way of my first two IMs. |

I had a marathon on the 17th, so the whole month was pretty much taper or recovery, but I did manage to start turning it up this last week. Next month I need: Bike: 600+ Run:160 Swim: 15000 |

Think I need to bump up the amount of time in the pool since I averaged only 2 times a week. |

Extreme Veteran 849 San Diego | Subject: RE: Full Vineman Triathlon : Official Thread All right, not exactly where I want to be, but there's still time
Oh man, I was bad about swimming. Finally made it back in the pool last week, so I must continue that. Here are some April goals: 450 miles bike 100 miles run 30K swim I think that's doable. I'm pretty happy with my biking. The running is going well but I need to increase the volume and the swim? must do more! I'm going to start OWS on Monday nights starting in 8 days. Ugh. Nice job, everybody! |

March's totals: Bike: 24h 59m 51s - 466.83 Mi Run: 16h 42m 56s - 92.92 Mi Swim: 7h 04m 32s - 20287.13 Yd Pretty happy with where I'm at with training. Not looking forward to the summer training though. It's been so nice here lately, but soon enough it's going to be horribly humid & hot! Edited by karen26.2 2012-04-01 10:15 PM |

Champion 5781 Northridge, California | Subject: RE: Full Vineman Triathlon : Official Thread This March wasn't really an IM training month for me (LA Marathon was the 18th, so there was a lot of taper and recovery). But I was interested to look back and see where I was vs. this month in 2009, the previous year that I did Vineman (which was my first IM): March 2009: March 2012: So, even with the marathon this year, I'm ahead of where I was in 2009, including weighing on average more than 5.5 lbs less for the month. |

Also did a 1,000 yard swim time trial and was a full minute faster than last year. The weather has been so crummy around here I haven't been able to ride outside yet. All trainer time. I'm anxious for warmer weather so I can get some long rides in.

The power walking is from cheering brown_dog_us and karen26.2 at the race I didn't get to run. I am hoping for some more running this month but I keep setting my recovery back by doing something stupid (hilly trail race, chasing DH to the finish line in his race, etc). |
