I also expect my kids to be safe in their beds and I can go to sleep and not hover over them staring. But kids die of SIDS all the time. I expect my kids to be safe at schools, so I don't stand in the back of the classroom (or my nanny) to keep tabs of them 24/7.
But I don't have kids, so I guess I don't know. Apparently that's what nannies and butlers are for. But I dont have kids, so I dont know either. |

I don't take my IRA and 401K advice from a man on welfare. I don't get car repair advice from a man who's never been under the hood himself. I don't fly on planes in which a pilot has never flown. Why would I take parenting advice from somebody who has never been shat on one day and stayed up until 4 in the morning before leaving for work in 3 hours the next? My apologies. You're right. Even though there are plenty of smart, educated, trained people out there, unless someone poops on you and limits you to 3 hours of sleep, you are no authority. Fortunately, that sounds like a typical weekend night in my fraternity, so I guess I make the cut.
So if I feel it's wrong to strike your child, and even voice my opinion against that, it's not worth listening too since I don't have my own kids to slap around? |

Not that the amount, or the lawsuit, is justified, but I would have thought a bigger number would be attached. |

Why would I take parenting advice from somebody who has never been shat on one day and stayed up until 4 in the morning to keep that same child calm the next? Seems like a good rule to follow. Like, at the plane factory, just after a plane comes off the assembly line, or whereever they made the plane, and you happen to be hanging around, if someone asks you if you'd like to fly on the plane, before the first pilot test-flies it, it totally makes sense to say "no." Unless you're a pilot, of course. Someone has to be first, I guess. |

I don't take my IRA and 401K advice from a man on welfare. There are probably very bright people that got destroyed by the economy. Just because they are broke, doesn't mean they are stupid about it. I don't get car repair advice from a man who's never been under the hood himself. I have described problems to friends about my car (it won't start or something) and in their experience, it was the battery or alternator they had replaced/fixed. They didn't know how to fix it themselves, but were able to diagnose the problem based on their experience. I don't fly on planes in which a pilot has never flown. I do, all the time. They are called passengers. You are not a pilot of you never flown, you are a passenger. I fly with passengers all the time. Flight instructors fly with potential pilots their first time up all the time. Why would I take parenting advice from somebody who has never been shat on one day and stayed up until 4 in the morning to keep that same child calm the next? |

Pretty sure if my dog eats a condom she won't have any "lasting injuries". Just as I am sure these kids don't have any "lasting injuries".
And I don't have kids, so there! |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'd love to stay and continue this but apparently my nanny decided to get sick. The maid is wrapped up in cleaning the guest house and the chef doesn't come in until 3:30 to prepare dinner. I, apparently, have to babysit the kids. Wife is shopping in NYC for a "girls getaway" and won't be back until April 3rd.... Any advice on what to do? The youngest one is in diapers still....but the package says 14-21lbs on it. It feels heavy, but not 14lbs heavy, so I have a while before I have to change her. I'll let the 7 year old help the gardener out with the mowing, need to teach them, right? |

And I don't have kids, so there! Well, latex (unless allergies is probably not a big deal) save a chocking hazard. I guess I would just thinking HIV or something from what's IN the condom that would concern me. But that's just a supposition. I may be perfectly fine with it if I had kids and that happened to me. I have nothing to base it on currently. |

It's actually quite the same.....before Consuela came along, we crated them and let them out to eat and run around......but then right back. During the days, we would tether them to a tree. Enough rope to run and play. One time we came home and the oldest had climbed in the tree and then fell so she was hanging upside down by her ankle. We laughed so hard. She wouldn't be still for the pictures though, so we didn't get a good one to post on FB. |

![]() tealeaf - 2013-03-14 9:28 AM Any parent who has had a 2-year old suffer any degree of injury must be an irresponsible parent, to hear some of the comments in this thread. I don't know whether or not the suit has merit, but I do know that it is possible for a parent to be watching a 2-year old and have something happen to the child at the same time. I don't know what happened here, and neither do any of the other commenters to this thread. Probably the issue is something like, and I don't know legal terms, who exercised reasonable care? If there was a condom on the floor in the childrens' play area, it seems fairly certain that McDonalds did not. What we don't know, is if the mother exercised reasonable care. While I think McD's is grossly negligent and should be sued for way more than the 50K I think she should also be suing the condom manufacturer and the people who sold it. Why are condoms so easy to get, you can buy as many as you want and as we can see here the injuries that they cause goes for the most part unpunished. I think we need to see some serious laws regulating condom purchase, use and disposal. Why are there no warnings on the dangers of improper condom disposal? |
