Where in the heck is David?  I don't care if it's nearly the middle of the night.  We want details!

First outdoor ride in the books today.  And please no one give me crap that I rode my old bike.  I need a little dwell time with it before I attempt the ride I did today.  Parts were sore before I started and they aren't any better now.  And we're not talking my legs!

Hi Suzy, I posted something on page 2 before I went to bed! I found it really hard to get to sleep last night, must be the coke and caffeine gels!

Well done Trevor, a marathon is a LONG way to run, great to see you got a PR

Hey all, thx for following along as well. Yes, big PR for me, but this was a lesson in not executing properly. I went out strong, stronger than I had run in training. At 5k, I was well ahead of my 4:30 goal time pace. I slowed down a bit, but hit the half at 2:08. Wheels came off the last 10k. Was getting hot. Hottest race they've had. Vancouver set a temp record for May 5, mid 80's. Combining that and going out to hard, I ran last half in 2:23. So I was right around my goal time of 4:30, but poorly executed. Still happy with a 30 min PR.Congrats on the IM David. Enjoy the recovery.Welcome to the club Mike! Congrats.

You did awesome, Trevor!! I think the wheels always fall off the last 10k. That's what makes the marathon so brutal and special. Can't imagine the heat -- I'm sure it was brutal. Yes, not hot for much of the country, but that is very hot for us at this time of year (no acclimation). Congratulations again. A :30 PR is HUGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Are you limping today??? Can you walk downstairs??

Just got home. I had an interesting conversation with my wife during the long drive. Having been quite keen for me to pull out of the ironman after we got back from Europe in January she got really into it the last few weeks.
My SIL who is now living with her marine boyfriend in the UK is planning to come out next year and her boyfriend wants to do an IM so between my wife and her sister they are planning on me doing IM Busselton in December 2014. I haven't broken the news to my legs yet!

Anyway, 3 weeks of recovery for me then I'll start on a plan to improve bike strength and speed.

Now that my Oly is over. I have about a week and a half before surgery. Then 2 weeks off untill training starts for the HIM. My question is what should I do this week and next before surgery?

is the surgery your having to correct an SBR injury or unrelated?  if training doesn't bother it, I would train normally right up until the day before you go in.  I had a girlfriend who just had an unrelated surgery and did a 3.5 hour ride the day beforehand to maintain some of her fitness while she rehabbed for two weeks.

yeah it is not related. It is a vasectomy. I am not on a plan as it ended with the Tri on Saturday. I am going to continue to do all three phases until the surgery. Then after that. I will be starting a 16 week plan for the upcoming HIM

To answer your question my answer is "say goodbye to your manhood." Seriously though, do not rush back into things after it. Swimming is gonzo for at least a week. The bike will NOT feel good for a while. Running- no way you run until 'it's' fully healed. Tearing that open would suck.

As an enthusiastic fan and strong supporter of this surgery when hubby had it done, I can say it wasn't nearly as bad as he thought it might be.  He had a day of frozen peas and rest (with an amazing omelet that I whipped up, accomponied by a screwdriver!) and was feeling pretty fine in 24 hours.  Took a week off the SBR, and was good to go.

Train until the last day, and enjoy the break! And the benefits.......  Wink

eta: Trevor's right - don't rush back!!  Not worth the consequences!!

The plan was to take 4 days and do nothing but peas and rest.hen I was going to go from there. I figure I will ask the doc and see what he says. I hope I dont loose everything I have built up. I hope that by June I will be back at it if not before.

One of my friends had a vasectomy and afterwards he was watching TV when he started to feel a pulsing feeling between his legs, soon his scrotum was the size of a melon and his wife had to get their new neighbors to come over and help lift him in to the car because he couldn't climb up into the 4WD! He got to emergency and waddled along to the nurse like John Wayne after a hard day in the saddle and then spent 24 hours in hospital with 2 drains coming out of his sac!
I'm sure you'll be fine....!
