How do you transport your bike to local races? (Page 3)

The 15 year old Altima was on its last legs earlier this year, so we traded it in and got a 2012 Xterra, then I ordered some parts off Amazon and cut a 2x4 to the right size. Now the bikes are locked and going to and from each race and training ride. I feel much better about driving 8 to 10 hours to get so some races. I don't have to worry as much about the rain/hail or wind like I used to with the old rack on the back.

 

I know they aren't the fanciest most expensive bikes, but they are the ones we have for now. BTW anyone have a tri-bike they want to give me?

I really like this. Would definitely kit my car out like this if only it was big enough. I just put the back seats down and rest my bike on top.

I have a bigger bike but with the rear row folded down in our Pathfinder I can get it in with the front wheel off.

A couple of towels and my pack bag keep it secure.

Only takes 30 seconds to get the front wheel back on.

I had a roof rack once, I got rear ended on the interstate a a dead stop, bike flew into the oncoming late and was totaled.

I had a rear rack once, I got rear ended at a stop light, nothing terrible but minor damages

I know keep my bike inside my car, no problems to report, its a pain, but it lessens the damage chances due to other drivers errors. Its a simple rack where i take the front wheel off and it stand upright, throw a blanket over it and it is protected from everything inside the car.

I pretty much pick mine up and lay it in the back of my ute. I do make sure that she is chain side up most of the time, but sometimes I forget. She lays flat and I don't have to take the wheels off or anything. She is a poverty pack special so I don't get too precious about her.

Maybe this season I should find a way to transport her with a bit more care, but we will see.
