Kim - I am running the SLC half as well. I figure it is a great last training run prior to my taper starting.

I did the Rage Olympic Distance tri down in Vegas/Lake Mead this weekend. It was brutal, a constant assault of hills on both the bike and the run, the heat was punishing, and it was brutal. However, I finished feeling strong and with a boost of confidence that though it will be hard, I am prepared for StG if I race smart and stick to my nutrition. It was great dress rehearsal for StG.

While down that way I also drove the bike course for StG. If it is going to be brutal, it is also going to be GORGEOUS! I love that it is on the same course as the StG Marathon, my all time favorite race, so that will put me in a good mental point at that spot on the course.

Less than 3 weeks! Very excited!

Purple swim cap here...7:45--I'll have to catch you all on the bike, lol!  Purple is my favorite color so I'm taking it as a good sign!

Katie--good luck on Saturday!  I had the same thought, good training run.

I'm debating whether or not to drive the course when hubby and I get to St. George--the climbs always look worse from the car!

I had my first nightmare last night about the HIM--I got off the bike and changed to swim and then realized I needed to do the run but by the time I changed back into run stuff they closed the course!  Aaaaah! Make it stop!  I'm chalking it up to taper madness!

I am same swim wave as last year 7:33am and light blue cap. Bib is 1308 which is a mixed bag, I am local triclub member so I should have a bib under 400 with everyone else in the local triclub I am the only person in our club with a bib above 400 so I will be around no one I know but at the same time its fun to meet other people from other areas. 1307 is from California and 1309 from Illinois.

And I am praying the wind is about done, it has been blowing non stop relentlessly for a month now, Saturday was 25mph with gusts up to 40 and its heating up to we got into the 90's last week, its cooler this week in the 80's but still a little warm. Water should be nice it was 57 on Saturday we should get into the 60's by race day.

2012 finisher here. I missed last years race. I promised to never let that happen again. See everyone there. I love everything about the race and area. So excited to come back to st. George. I would not complain if the wind dies down. However, I will not complain out loud if it rears it's ugly head.

Hey K-Stater, have you started training yet? I'm thinking that a Georgia boy could show up here on no training and just crush a bunch of dreams.

Training is going very well. I don't want to jinks anything by saying sub 4 hours. However, let's hope for sub 4.15!

Is anyone getting excited or worried, wind still looks nasty 11 days out. Winds are 31mph today, two week forecast shows them at 16mph on race day but 2 week forecasts are so unpredictable.

I've been watching the weather for about a month now....totally obsessive, I guess!  The wind does look pretty brutal and I'm actually a little surprised it's as hot as it is already.  I was thinking I'd be training in the heat and get to race in mild conditions, but it turns out to not be that way at all.

At least the swim will be nice and cool. Scratch that; we will probably have two-foot high waves! Welcome to St. George! As they say: It's Ironman, it's supposed to be hard.

Hit Sand Hollow yesterday if we get conditions like yesterday I'll be ecstatic water temp was 62 degrees and the lake was calm as heck (mind you that Tuesday winds were 38MPH so its been a crap shoot what kind of weather you will get right now). So cross your fingers for one of the good days instead of the bad days no hopes on it not being hot though that seems a given at this point. 10 day forecast shows 15mh winds race day (keep in mind its calmer in the morning and the wind picks up as the day progresses normally).

I think they were calling for 13 mph winds or less the day of the race in 2012. No way to know what will happen even the morning of. That's what makes it so awesome. A tough day under perfect conditions... Then comes the weather. Adjust and embrace the glory or the suck. Boring days make pi$$ poor stories.

"Embrace the suck"--that's going to be my mantra! Love it.

It's Race Week folks!

I am already getting that nervous/excited feeling. The work is done, now to just survive this last week of tapering and then it's show time!

When is everyone getting into town? I'm heading down on Thursday. Can't wait! These three days of work before then might kill me!

Happy Tapering!

Weather.com is predicting 17MPH winds. Accuweather.com is saying more like 13MPH. Sounds like we have a windy situation in our hands. My last long ride was last Friday with 25MPH winds in SLC. I was mad about it at the time but now I'm glad I did it, it may come in handy come Saturday. I'm concerned about the swim though. I haven't had to swim through waves in a tri yet.

Is there anyone here who is a veteran of the 2012 crazy swim? How strong were the winds then?

We need to start a 'no wind" chant!  I've had a lot of really choppy swims lately so I'm not too worried about that but don't want the wind on the bike or the run. Ah well, what will be will be.  I'll take it all--just want the race to get here!  I started hydrating in earnest Saturday--I feel like I'm going to float away--just want to make sure I'm ready for the heat--I'm a mega sweater! I'm heading down Thursday afternoon with the hubs.

Wunderground shows sub-10mph winds till 1pm....let's hope for that!

I'm flying in Thursday afternoon, planning to check-in Thursday and get in a quick swim at Sand Hollow.  It's not like this race really snuck up on me, but I can't believe how quickly it got here!  Training was pretty solid, but taper is really testing my ability to keep my mind in check!

I'm so there too.  I know I put in the work, but the less I do this week the more I doubt I've done enough.  Ugh!

I've been here since around 2:00 and it is awesome. This is my first IM branded event and I am already so impressed. Had my picture taken with Meredith Kessler. She is amazing. So nice, very down to earth, I was so impressed! The pro panel was good. But, it is already very hot out, so I'm sure we're in for a scorcher!
