Oh wait....is this the Sharpiegate thing?

Unless they can prove with real data (not from China) the lethality is significantly higher than the seasonal flu this ‘pandemic’ is dead in the water. The more I hear about asymptomatic cases the more I’m convinced this is much ado about nothing. I just listened to a report on a case who tested positive on cruise ship. He said his symptoms were like a minor cold and he had no fever. Indicates they may very well be many more people who have it and just live with it. The guy from the cruise ship said under normal circumstances his symptoms were so minor he would not have even missed work.

What if we created a pandemic and no one shows up?

I suspect the CDR will decrease as we know more about it.
I found this more factual https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/fullarticle/2762510?guestAcces...

Case-Fatality Rate
Like the clinical manifestations, the case-fatality rate (CFR) appears to be highly variable. Early reports suggested that it could be as high as 8% to 15% in older adults infected in Hubei Province. The CFR is increased in adults with comorbid conditions who developed severe respiratory symptoms. The CFR outside of Hubei, although based on limited data, is much lower, likely no higher than 1% to 2%, although this will depend on accurate detection of those with mild disease.

Not sure where he is right. This is still 10 to 20 times worst than the flu

Not if "85% of people will have mild or no effects" as is starting to be reported.....that could mean there are hundreds of thousands, or more, cases that nobody has counted. I'd put my money on this being way more hype than actual substance.....it's the way of the world these days. This will likely be no different.

As of today there are 87 cases of Corona virus in the US.

Just listened to a Biophysicist, Nobel prize winning Dr. from Stanford give an interview regarding the virus. He said this is likely far less lethal than the flu and standard precautions will be fine. Of course, on CNN the sky is falling and the President' plan is "under attack". HAHAHAHA

I have no idea how people don't see through the liberal media.....they have hyped ANYTHING to try and help bring down this President and they have been right. .. exactly.... NEVER.

I listened to PMSNBC talking to an ‘expert’ and asked if she should worry about her 2 yo daughter. He said strangely enough has hasn’t be any infections in anyone under 15 years old. Hmmm, not exactly the hyped up answer she was looking for.

I heard another person talk about how we are not getting information. Really? She should turn on the news and listen to the 24/ 7 coverage.

More bad news for Dems....stock market up 650+.

Do you remember the H1N1 Pandemic??.....

"From April 12, 2009 to April 10, 2010, CDC estimated there were 60.8 million cases (range: 43.3-89.3 million), 274,304 hospitalizations (range: 195,086-402,719), and 12,469 deaths (range: 8868-18,306) in the United States due to the (H1N1)pdm09 virus."

Yeah, me neither....maybe we would if it was during an election year. LOL

I suspect the actual threat of this to lie somewhere in between that of the panicked media and that of those on the right who think it's a big nothingburger. (Which is pretty much the case for everything these days, no?)

The major news outlets in the US are sharing a lot of hyped up headlines, but honestly not a lot of useful scientific information, and the CDC doesn't seem to be sharing a ton of useful information either. I'm a science nerd, so I've been following the twitter feeds of a bunch of epidemiologists and scientists, and there's some really useful information out there, and some really smart people doing some amazing work on this. It's actually kind of fascinating. There is much more scientific info available in news sources outside of our country, fwiw.

The disease seems to have a similar RO to the flu, which means it can/will infect populations quickly. So far, 80% of cases experience mild symptoms, which is great news if you're young and healthy, but doesn't mean we should just stick our heads in the sand and pretend it's nothing. 15% of cases are presenting with serious symptoms that require medical intervention. That's a big deal compared to the flu, and if it spreads like the flu means that hospitals are likely to see a huge increase in the number of patients requiring respiratory care. Whether they die or not, it would be irresponsible to pretend nothing is happening and not prepare for the likelihood of some strain on our medical system.

The most logical thing I read today was this - why we shouldn't panic, but why a little bit of preparation can provide some "slack" in the system and make things work out better in the end (think you have to show the thread to read her entire point): https://twitter.com/firefoxx66/status/1233666678841597952

Appreciate the post. Frankly I am more fascinated with the politics and how that plays out. My gut feel, for whatever that’s worth, is many pundits and politicians have gotten ahead of their skis and declared a pandemic way before they had evidence to support that prognosis. I also think the markets over reacted - big suppress huh - and this contributed to the panic. So then the media feeds off the sell off to perpetuate the panic they created. The DNC is already running ads slamming Trump and there are a dozen articles blaming “Trump leadership”.

My guess is this is going to die a quiet death as the headlines fade and there is no pandemic. Maybe I’m wrong....but I do my think so.

Thanks Stacers, that's an excellent post. I'm not saying it's nothing but, truly, people are being led to believe this is the next Black Plague by this out of control liberal media....it's over the top ridiculous. I read constantly, mostly news sites because keeping up with what's going on in the country is part of how we do my job succesfully.....the idea that it is equally stupid on both sides is just not true.... it's about 75/25 Left vs. Right on the stupid scale...and most of it is because they just can't get over the idea that Trump was elected and will likely be re-elected. It has made many people lose their minds. LOL

That headline is half accurate.
Wall Street isn't necessarily happy that Biden won, they are happy Bernie lost.
I was on a call with an analyst many weeks back. Top 3 threats to the market were war with Iran, a pandemic and Bernie :-)

His odds were never good but they are worst now. According to the bookies in Vegas, he peaked in January.

There was little risk of war, there was little risk of Bernie, but they remain risks and when they go away, the market likes it. Bloomberg, Trump and Biden were seen as positive for the market. Everyone else was a risk.

I suspect the market will be volatile until some positive earnings and especially positive guidance is given.

Other than he fact that it's a novel virus that we haven't seen before,  I find the coverage of this Coronavirus to be truly bizarre.  By all the latest accounts it's likely less severe (maybe MUCH less) than infuenza.....yet the world seems to be in meltdown mode over it.  Why?

Here's a perfect example....."Costco Banning Free Samples Over Corona Virus"......well, OK, way to ramp it up another level.   Why have they not banned free samples over the flu?  Or the common cold?  Who eats that stuff anyway?  And if we're doing that, why aren't we banning restaurants?  This is all craziness.

Other than to stoke fear.....what would be the point of running a story about Costco banning samples?  How is that news to ANYONE?   The NBA has sent out a memo that the players should get ready to play their playoffs to empty arenas, because it's to much of a danger to let that many people congregate with the spreading virus.  LOL

I don't care much for Labron James......mostly because I'm just not a fan of the NBA, or basketball in general outside of March Madness....but he has stated that he will not play to an empty house, because what's the point if there are no fans......good for Labron.   Maybe he just made a new fan.

Has anyone else tried to find first person accounts or blogs from people who have coronavirus? I've tried multiple google searches and managed to find one guy. He was on the cruise ship. Other than that, I don't see any. Is that odd? We live in a connected society and I can't find but one first person account of the illness. We supposedly have over 100k cases in the world and only one guy got online to tell his story.
