Crystal Lake, IL | Subject: RE: Racine Vs. Steelhead HIM Challenge - Lake Michigan Rivalry In all seriousness, what about doing something like avg placement within AG/Clyde/Athena category, time difference from the avg. in your category? We have to do something that doesn't allow for sandbagging the way the notorious PP Posse cheated at Pleasant Prairie last year.

over a barrier | Subject: RE: Racine Vs. Steelhead HIM Challenge - Lake Michigan Rivalry Average place (of the team) in your age group or weight class? Yes - I was refering to a % ranking... IE: Running2far places in the 10th percentile of his age group. Hangloose places 5th Percentile of in his age group. The score would be 15/2 = 7.5 Lowest score wins. Champion 6993 Chicago, Illinois | Subject: RE: Racine Vs. Steelhead HIM Challenge - Lake Michigan Rivalry I would say which time has the lowest time based on time on the avg for each age group a/g. Place could be useful but 5 out of 5 and 5 out of 30 are the same place but not a sign of the same success. if you are fast than avg you get neg time and if your faster you get postive time. add it all up and that is the team off the avg time. in case the time size is not equal you take the total time divide by number of people and that gives the time off avg per person and which ever is lower wins. You could also do by avg place percentage but you can not really go by straight number Edited by chirunner134 2007-04-24 11:12 AM |

Champion 6993 Chicago, Illinois | Subject: RE: Racine Vs. Steelhead HIM Challenge - Lake Michigan Rivalry The other question do you count DNFs? Do they get the max course time or last in there division or do you leave them out? |

Champion 6993 Chicago, Illinois | Subject: RE: Racine Vs. Steelhead HIM Challenge - Lake Michigan Rivalry Another way you can do it is take the times of the best 5 or 10 people. I would take either course avg overall or the person who is dead middle time and the team with the high avg course time gets the difference in bonus time to avg out potential harder course/ much hotter day. |

Pro 4675 Wisconsin near the Twin Cities metro | Subject: RE: Racine Vs. Steelhead HIM Challenge - Lake Michigan Rivalry Whatever method we come up with, I'd like to make one suggestion. If someone is entered in the Elite Master category then their actual time should be compared to times in their traditional AG (e.g. M45-49) for scoring purposes. At Racine, the Elite Masters group lumps all master AG together so it's a mix of AG's. Not sure if Steelhead has an EM category. |

Ah we have like 2 weeks after we tri until steelhead tris. I think the math should be easy. I do suggest if we do a time thing with the avg time per age/group that we use the middle time and not the avg. IT makes figuring out time realy easy Avg would be alot of math but then again could take me about 1 hour to make a program that will make it simpler too. |

Crystal Lake, IL | Subject: RE: Racine Vs. Steelhead HIM Challenge - Lake Michigan Rivalry I appreciate the compliment, but this is a much bigger group than we had at PP. I'll do it if everyone wants but I am 0-1. Not exactly a stellar record. I will say that I think we can't do anything with time and/or time vs. goals because the races are different and people can over/underestimate their goals. I don't think percentile works, as Todd pointed out on pg 2, because you could be 5th in your category but if you are 5/5 or 5/30 it's completely different. I think these are both big enough races that the fields will be similarly competitive, so I think placement in respective categories is the way to go. Example: SOR Steelhead A - 75th M25-29 X - 64th F40-44 Total Avg = 40.66 vs. 46.66 SOR WINS!!!! (You guys should get used to that) It's objective, leaves out weather and course conditions and difficulty of the course. I nominate this as the way to grade the competition.

Just cuz we're doing a race in WI doesn't make us cheeseheads. Ok - I also think we need to put a little something on the line here. We need to decide what it will be. Avatar switches, sig line change admitting defeat, that kind of thing. Edited by hangloose 2007-05-14 4:35 PM |

This just goes to show the ignorance of the slackers. They assume just because the race is in Wisconsin we are all cheeseheads. Where many of us support the second best team in the NFL. The team dispite there lose has the record for being the team to score faster than any other team in superbowl history. That team is known as the Bears. Still I would rather have that team from Wisconsin who almost made the playoffs and didn't only because of tie breakers than the team from the same state as the steelhead. Yep I am looking at the Lions who would be lucky if they could win more than 2 games a year. |
