Champion 19812 MA | Subject: RE: GIRLS TEAM THREAD May Swim Challenge Missed my swim last night but got my first hour swim of the year in today and it went well. Hit 100k+ yds for the year and am track to swim more than last year. My coach writes great swim workouts that keep me mentally challenged plus I think my swim mp3 player helps a lot. Soon I'll be doing 3 3000 yd swims a week and being relatively slow they'll take me awhile. I find it humorous in a strange way that everyone that is there when I get there is out of the pool, and many lanes change over 3-4x in as long as I swim. I just don't swim when there are others swimming long. |

Master 1567 Kauai, Hawaii | Subject: RE: GIRLS TEAM THREAD May Swim Challenge Hey all! Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! Mine was great especially watching the kido's playing in the surf and the pool, they are growing up so fast. The perfect mothers day run first thing, a yummy bagel breakfast sandwich then play in the pool with the kids, then mommy got her SWIM in, 48 minutes ocean swim with my MP3 player. First time doing open water with music, kept my mind off the sharks. On my 2nd lap when I finally came up to sight I found myself heading out to sea. I am up to 33.33% it is going to be tough to get it all in but I will be trying my darnedest! |

Thankfully I am ok however but will now have to do some catching up sometime. Woe, that is very scary, why were you so sleepy, I find eating an apple helps after working night shift. |

Are you asking about WHEN to shift while you are riding at the appropriate time? It's based off of "feel" or how easy/hard it is to pedal. If you base it off cadence, then you should be around 80 to 100 revolutions per minute (for one foot to make a complete circle when pedaling). You want to be as comfortable as possible, not winded (except for hills, which is given). If the pedaling is TOO easy, then shift up one or two. If pedaling is making your legs hurt or it's hard to pedal, then shift down. If you have a tri bike, stay in aero as much as you can to reserve your energy. Standing up and pedaling up a hill should only be done if you are racing and want that power, or have to get up a hill faster, but, you burn more energy. I hope this helps. it does help Phil. thanks. i can do what you describe on my hybrid no problem. OK. sissy that i am. it has numbers on the components, so i can see 'where' im at, shiftingwise. but this bike, im 'lost' i keep whining, i want my numbers back. waaaaaaah. ill get it, im sure. the more im on the bike, the better handle ill have. it just seems like im working harder on the hills (this is a full carbon bike mind you) and that im running out of gears before i get to the top of the hills, 'quicker' than on my hybrid. though it cant be possible, cuz i have more gears on this bike than i had on my hybrid... patience and persistence. stacieb |
