Here's a crazy race I was looking into.  Registration is closed for this year's race on May 2nd, but I may try it next year (where else can you pay good money to run through fire?).

Bill -- This sounds like a fun race!

Staging from the Carlisle Family YMCA's Camp Thompson in Pine Grove Furnace State Park, racers tackled a mass start, entered and exited the Spiral of Death and then headed into Michaux State Forest for a massive single loop consisting of paved roads, fire roads, beachfront, doubletrack, singletrack, brutal climbs, steep run-ups, sketchy downhills, and numerous stream crossings.

Sounds brutal, but I want in!

Hi bEASTies!

Thanks for all of the birthday wishes.

I took the day off and went for a paved trail ride. The rain they had been talking about all week is holding off until at least tonight. The sun was in and out of light clouds. I was never quite warm enough to lose the long sleeve jersey but I frequently had it zipped down and the sleeves pushed up. I lost the trail at one point coming back and ended out at the road at the wrong place and needed to look at my iPhone map to figure out what to do.

Girl + Bike = Beautiful Day

Out to see a show tonight and I'll get my fancy birthday dinner tomorrow.

Nice setup Nicole!  Looks like mine but I have drop bars.  My buddy loves his Jamis!

Hope you enjoyed it - looks great out!  Enjoy the other festivities as well

Mine is a Coda (2007); what have you got?

Alright - Columbus Day weekend typically - and I have the pre-go ahead for this year - hopefully she remembers

That just might work.  It's about 3 weeks after the Syracuse HIM.  Carlisle is 2 hours from where I live, so definitely doable.  When I tell my wife I want to do it, she'll just roll her eyes, sigh, and say "whatever".  Then, about an hour later she'll ask, "so how much does THIS race cost???"  It's a playful little game we play that usually ends with me in the fetal position in a corner crying like a baby.  But I'll wear her down!

But not one to let the bEASTies down I was able to swim after lunch at a different Y about 20 minutes away. It is not far from Best Buy and Target so I could combine my errands.  Only problem was major munchies while shopping in Target. The butter toffee popcorn "fell" into my cart.  Yum.

One of my husband's running buddys from high school actually does these. A lot. That is some crazy, crazy stuff! Certainly requires a lot of dedication! It's a lifestyle...

Great way of wording it - a crazy lifestyle right?

Do you guys race over in Syracuse or Rochester at all?  I am down by the Bill's stadium but head over to Rochester periodically for races.
One of the races we do every year is is actually a little south of both Rochester and Syracuse, but haven't done one in either city exactly. Every year we do the Cayuga Lake Tri which is just a little north of Ithaca. We started off doing the sprint race. Last year and this year I am doing the Oly. My husband claims his hamstring still hurts too much to run. Usually I stick closer to Albany for races but have gone up to Lake George because I have friends up that way. I've actually been trying to do a race out in Buffalo but can't get the timing just right with all the other stuff that comes up over the summer. My family still lives in Buffalo (Sweet Home, actually) so doing a race out there would be a nice little vacation. Traveling with the kids and race stuff is sometimes challenging... By the stadium, huh? I am so jealous!!! I grew up going to games with my Grandpa who had season tix. Don't get back often enough during the fall...

Cool - glad I asked!  Well they have not been worth while making the trip for lately either though!

Good point... but I'm still hopeful year after year!

Heading to the trainer for 16 miles. I am really not feeling this tonight... if I survive, I think I am treating myself to an ice cream dinner.

Okay wow holy crap. I was just complaining about my job yesterday, and now today I got a letter from the county public safety department calling for a paper and pencil test. Precursor to the computer test, polygraph, and panel interview to become a 9-1-1 dispatcher. Suddenly very nervous. The letter says business casual, what is that? I have worked with animals so long all I have is scrubs, sweats and race tshirts. I'm off to shop now. I'm thinking nice pants and blouses, right? And I should get a few shirts since this is a multi-step process, right? I've done dozens of interviews at work, but I've never actually been on one.

My work is business casual and that is pretty much nice pants and blouses, etc. I'm probably not the best person to give advice though since I definitely lean more toward the casual side of things.

12 days in and 38 pages already???

Update from the East out this way.  As per previous post it was going to be a slow start to the month here, thankfully my beautiful daughter Delaney made a spectacular entrance last Thursday, and after a few days managed to start slowly getting back into some training.

Currently sitting at 16% with a big ride hopefully planned for tomorrow, and Sunday is my first race in just over a year.  Unfortunately is only a dash length (300 / 10 / 2) to support my mate who started tris to lose weight and has lost 15 kgs and lines up for his first race on Sunday.  Small race but I'm still cracking out the aero helmet, disk wheel and five spoke front wheel - gotta have the bling.

Let's go team, remember this is our month cause when we get to the end of March and win, we get rewarded with EASTer, not WESTer.Wink
