The AT is very little blood supply so is very slow to heal. It can easily become chronic. I don't know the difference between the cause of a tendonitis and a bursitis, but am guessing your PT will be able to lay it out. Good luck. Hang in there. |

Due to the swelling and it location in addition to tenderness to the touch my doctor concluded it is bursitis, which is inflamation of the bursa sac. I am really hoping I can get this unde rcontrol quickly. There are only 6.5 months until Rev3!! |

Personally, I hope we get 100s of kids and they eat every last morself of our candy! I have a friend who only buys candy she hates so she doesn't eat any, ha!! Lucky us, we get NO trick-or-treaters (dark neighborhood, houses spread out, not worth the effort), so we don't have candy around. We go to a friend's close to here who has tons of houses and trick-or-treat with other families there, so there is plenty of candy to be had when all is said and done. The kid's orthodontist buys back candy at $1/pound (and are sending it to soldiers in Afghanistan) -- we'll see if our kids are more motivated by sugar or money!!! Happy and SAFE Halloween to all!! |

One thing I am quite proud of is as of Thursday I hit my 1000km goal of running for the year, and am over 150k this month going into todays run- will be longest month of running ever after today. 3 years when I started allthis crazy stuff, I never ever thought I would/could run this much. edit: looked at Lindas log since she posted last this morning. She's run almost 6X further this year than me. You humble me as a runner Linda. ~~375miles/month. Edited by TrevorC 2010-10-30 7:56 AM |

While 24K is a short run compared to what you've been doing, those "short long" runs can be a mental grind!! They are still very long! Just keep the right mindset and you'll be great. Come back and tell us how it goes. And best of luck to VelcroLindaMarathonMom on Sunday!! |

Extreme Veteran 362 | Subject: RE: swbkrun Mentor Group II- CLOSED FOR BUSINESS!!! Ok, I need advice. I am training for 2 half marathons this winter, the first one is about a month away on 12/5, while many of you are partying racing in Vegas. Right now, I am feeling pretty good about my progress. I did my long run of the week this morning (8.3 miles/ 9:43pace, a PR for that distance, btw). It was a great morning for a run.....temps in lower 40's, no wind.....felt great! My right knee seized tight on the last mile. I think it is still my IT Band.....need to keep rolling it. So, looking at my HR data, I never got out of Zone 3 the entire run, not even for one second. I get mixed messages on when I should be pushing my HR up to Z4 during my training runs....or what should be the plan as to when to push or not push into Z4. One message I get is I am not pushing hard enough on my training runs if I stay in Z3. So, how should I be approaching this for long runs vs. shorter runs during the week. I do push up to Z4 during shorter runs, hills, intervals, etc. Just that the long run, like this morning, I tend to stay mostly in Z3. |

I might have a 30 minute Z3 interval, but I am always back down to Z2 for the remainder (runs a couple hours in length or more). Tempo runs for me are done in Z3 and shorter runs are Z4. A lot depends on what your plans looks like. |

Elite 4108 Calgary,AB,Canada | Subject: RE: swbkrun Mentor Group II- CLOSED FOR BUSINESS!!! Got through the run okay. Kyla, you were right. When you think its only 'X' long, you tend to discount the distance. Felt like I hit a bit of a mental wall around 9 miles, but got through it and finished. One thing that is tough is trying to figure out what my race pace will be. Itry to run what I would think to be that pace, but then tucker out a ways in. I think/hope part of that is that its only during the LSR, and things will be a bit different when we hit the strip. Off to watch Toy Story 2 with the girls in the TV room. Its movie night. Popcorn and blankets. |

I think you do want to keep your long run in mostly Z2. It is really hard initially to slow down, but as John says, you really do have to slow down to get faster. Your body really does build endurance and eventually your pace will improve across the board. Curious what happens when you consciously try to stay in zone 2. Would you have to slow way down, or just a little bit? Most of my long runs are in zone 2 like Suzy, sometimes I have an interval or two with some zone 3 sprinkled in...rarely zone 4. I love zone 2...well lately, I love zone 1 the most...oops, I digress... So, anyhow, don't worry about running slower on your long runs, come race day, if you have trained well, you will be going hard at zone 3++...and hopefully get to the start line nice and healthy. |
