Use Northing/Easting coordinates and the math is pretty simple (two subtractions, two squares, an addition, and a square root).

Ummmmm ... not so simple for us poor English major types.  *Scratches my head and says huh*  :P
What she said! To quote Dory, I'll just keep swimmin'! Although I could go the Garmin route.

Hello everyone,  I hope you wonderful people are focused on your goals and working to make them a reality. I did indeed complete my second half marathon in WDW on Saturday. The entire experience was a wild ride and I  gained valuable information from elite athletes who were more than willing to help a old chick out, even if I do happen to be a young whippersnapper when it comes to running.

Keep on "Tri"ing everyone one Wink

GmrGirl - 2011-01-10 10:22 PM Signed up for swim lessons today.  They start next week Tuesdays and Thursday for 3 weeks with the local park district.  If my extremely hydrophobic son can overcome his fear of water and ask for more lessons so he can advance in scouts, then I should be able to overcome my "dislike" of swimming enough to take lessons and learn how to swim for real.  Who knows I may end up liking it.  6 months ago I thought runners were crazy.

So now very very nervous and have something new to obsess and worry about until next week.
Right ON!

Just checking in on everyone... How are is your training going?? strengths/weaknesses?

-started p90x- lets just say my abs, legs, butt, back, and shoulders are VERY sore. I probably haven't been this sore since 3-a-days when I played college vball.
-IM training going well. Tweaked a few workouts here and there but def sticking to it. Just ordered a new tri outfit for the IM. 2 out 3 bike shorts have holes in them :P

-strength- haven't drank in 10 days!! That's an accomplishment b/c I was drinking probably 3 times a week during the holidays (super stressed).
-weakness- still not sleeping well. Getting about 6 hrs a night, and then taking a nap. I'm going to try to get 7 hr straight which will be hard since I'll be working nights th-sun.

Strength - increasing mileage and still sticking with the runs
Weakness - Having a very hard time with cutting back smoking (think I may just have to suck it up and go cold turkey and deal with the aftermath of xtreme witchiness)

Um...(in a public kinda way...)how have you managed to wear out bike shorts like this???  My bibs have holes, but that's due to the unfortunate incident at IMCdA.  My first two pairs of bike shorts from 2006 are still in pretty good shape... and yes, I've ridden almost 5000 miles in the last 5 years so it isn't lack of use (that red font is the sarcasm font)

Glad the year is going well for you!  IM training will get you that much-needed continuous sleep from the instant your head hits the pillow until your alarm tells you it's time to start a new day!

I can do that for you.  Can't be nearly as bad as quitting the nicotine itself (can it?)!

Go for it.  You will love yourself after.  I did 4- 5 packs for 20 years, off 22 after hypnosis (assisted cold turkey)...never looked back.  Think of all that money for a new bike!  (I bought a top of the line bass boat with my savings.  I still have it.) Think of those clean lungs.  Think of reducing the chance you will be the 1:3 women who will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime.  Smokers might as well draw a target on their back or raise there hand and yell, "Yes, yes, pick me, I want cancer, I want it!" as if it were an ice cream cone on a hot day.  I am a survivor.  (Non smoking related.)  Cancer sucks. You don't want it.  Quit.  Set a date and never look back.  Go through the withdrawals. Your friends and loved ones will understand.  They WANT you healthy.

As you can see, I have strong feelings on the subject

Sleep?  Having trouble with that myself.  Seems like with work, the workouts, trying to spend time with my wife, AA, logging my workouts on three different sites for my coach, mentor group and myself, 10 p gets here too soon.

hmmm.....lemmee think what's on tap for me tonight.
i will probably miss another workout and end up disecting my treadmill so i can try and figure out why it keeps shutting off on me, making my running almost non-existent so far this year.  its a busy night with the family tonight and tomorrow night, but tomorrow night we're going to the PA farm show and i am just dying to try the Maple flavored soft serve ice cream i keep hearing about.  i'll let you know how it is.
this is a fun/crazy/motivated/accomplishing bunch of people in here!
best wishes to everyone in any training yet to be done today.

So def my first pair that I bought last year were cheap $20 sports store shorts.... I wore them every day in St. Maarten last Jan during my hour bikes and washed and dried them in the sun... Trained for an IM all year... Then wore them in St. Thomas in Oct everyday for my hour bike and same w/ washing them. My other pair aren't really "worn out" just split at the crotch seam which I can fix.

I hope that the IM training can give me sweet dreams

43 minutes for a mile isn't bad!  At my fastest (lifeguarding in HS/college) I could do a mile in 30 minutes (I did break 30 once or twice).  Peak IM training in 2009, I was down to 16:05 for 1000 yards, but I was swimming about 7000 yards per week.  1000 TT over Christmas was 17:00 (pretty darn good for me since I'm only getting 1.8 swims/week in).  Getting faster means swimming, swimming, swimming

*sigh* I guess I know this and just wishing for a magical fix like, say, a DVD that makes you faster just by sitting back and watching it or something.

If you find one of those, let me know!  Swimming is my worst and even though I like it, I just don't do it often enough.
