Slipped once and fell pretty hard uggh. Guess I should of used Yak Traks or put screws on the bottom of my shoes. 1:01 swim at lunch that went well. I don't take anything special to keep from being injured. |

Expert 1255 Philadelphia, Pennsylvania | Subject: RE: Ernesto's group (5th season) - Closed Please check your stats. I was going to fix the list, but it's too whacked up. You do NOT get to count your rest day in your totals. Tot = #swims + #bike rides + #runs. Some of your workouts don't add up. It's also helpful if you can put yourself in the order in the list. Total number of workouts is the first criteria. Then total time. I'll get off my ex-math teacher podium now. Thanks for listening. Derek Swim 4 - Bike 5 - Run 7 - Rest 1 - Total 16 Time 13:17:22 |

Expert 1255 Philadelphia, Pennsylvania | Subject: RE: Ernesto's group (5th season) - Closed @Harry, I did my first tri at 58. 50 is still a spring chicken I also remember being very frustrated that I had to walk to stay under MAF. It gets better. @Jim, glad to hear your wife is doing better. @Joe, great kid, great role model! @Krista, I use BT and garmin connect. I may try Strava too. @Trevor, yes I always want to quit early in the workout. It takes me 4 miles just to get warmed up on my runs nowadays. BTW, I've fallen twice on no ice It's a good thing I live in the south. @Juancho, I'm on my first bottle of glucosamine, but not noticing any difference so probably won't continue. I did start some chiro adjustments, but the jury is still out on that. @NWrunner, I love my Garmin 910XT. The swim data is awesome and the numbers are bigger for us visually challenged older triathletes. I upgraded from the Forerunner 305. OK, I think I'm caught up now.

I don't know if I would quite call it reducing "risk", but I take Horse Chestnut Seed Extract to combat leg vein deficiency (I've had the saphenous vein in my left leg removed about 5 years ago), fish oil as a general anti-inflammatory (I try to avoid NSAIDs), and one Mega Men Sport per day. And I try to eat lots of fruits and veggies. |

Veteran 419 clayton | Subject: RE: Ernesto's group (5th season) - Closed NWrunner - 2013-01-10 1:27 PM I'm looking for a new HRM and would like suggestions on what to get, stay away from. Currently using a Sportline I bought at Target a few years ago but have never been happy with it. Something that would allow me to load the workout information onto BT or another site would be nice. Any information would be appreciated.
Lisa - if you have guessed already the veteran's amongst this group really like the Garmin 910 - I dont blame them, as it is an amazing piece of engineering and produces amazing data. But, if you are not that concerned about your swim data - like most veterans are :-) - then dont over look the Garmin 305 - I have used it for three seasons now and it provides everything you could need for run and bike data (bike needs you to buy the cadence kit). It is cheaper than the 310 and 910 but it is not waterproof (its not meant to be for swim!). NOTE what Krista said about ANT+ if avoinding the Garmin brand, this is a must. All Garmin models work with importing data to BT, TP, Strava and obviously GC as per the other thread. The goto place for reviews is dcrainmaker. Mark. PS - I havent tried any other brands - its like cameras - you are either Canon or Nikon - once you try you stick with it - expect most people stick with Canon - sorry could not resist :-)

Total number of workouts is the first criteria. Then total time. I'll get off my ex-math teacher podium now. Thanks for listening. x2. Rules refreshher: Workouts count if over 30 minutes consisting of either swimming, running, or biking. Can only count one workout per discipline per day (i.e. if I run and swim in the morning and swim in evening I only get 1 point for running and 1 point for swimming (2nd swim does not result in a point)). Rest days are tracked because participants must take one rest day per week. Rest days do not count in your total. If you choose not to take a rest day then you must choose one day where your workout(s) will not count for points. Winner is individual with most qualifying workouts at end of month. If there is a tie then deciding factor is total time spent on all workouts (S, B, R) during the month.

Master 3022 | Subject: RE: Ernesto's group (5th season) - Closed This morning: 30 minutes on drainer followed by 4 miles on dreadmill. Spent the last few days in St. Louis at an off-site meeting for my company. Took my garmin and HR strap but forgot the HR plastic thingy that snaps on the strap. Fitness room was okay, couple recumbent bikes (with no discernable way to figure out distance), treadmills and exercise equipment. Forgot my swim stuff - but glad I did, the pool was long enough to push off, take a stroke or two and then do a flip turn and repeat. Stayed out way too late on Wednesday and drank way too much - but still managed to get up early for my tempo run and some time on the bike. I thought the workout would make the hangover better - not so, I really hydrated a lot but I felt absolutely miserable all day yesterday. Need to get to the pool this weekend at least once. Next week I have to really discipline myself and get to the pool three times. Snow and ice are melting here so hope to get outdoors for a run this weekend. Who here has watched the HBO series "The Wire"? I started watching it a week or so ago and think its phenomenal. Shows are 1 hour long so great when sitting on the drainer or running on the dreadmill.
