fattyfatfat - 2009-10-15 12:02 PM Matt are you coming to Texas?

Texas isn't in the cards for me this year.  I sounds like a lot of fun, but the funds just aren't there for a destination race right now.  I'll be sure to fire up the grill and crack a couple brews to celebrate in spirit.

Isn't Washington just above Texas?

Falling Off Chair Laughing That is exactly what I thought...

Geographically speaking maybe  - in coolness factor - definitely not...

I opened it anyhow and...

That pen is AWESOME!!!!

Thanks, Doug!

Doug- thank you so much   Now I have a real pen to use that my staff cannot steal!  It is beautiful and feels great to write with.

btw, Reuben, your previous post about sliding down to where your feet hit the bottom of the bed cracked me up!  I would be having to drag my pillow halfway down the mattress!

X3 - That pen is awesome!!  Thanks alot.  It is cool to use...  I am going to display it with my tri stuff from this year!

x 4 and sam should chime in on x 5.  Very cool Doug, thanks.

Hey guys.  Haven't been around much lately...been training and getting in lots of other stuff.
I remembered a discussion I read about breaststroke recently...thought about it this am as I was swimming and visualizing my next ows.  I agree breaststroke is tough in a mass group.  However, it is very handy when there is some room, you have huge waves, you are trying to sight with those massive waves, and you want to keep moving forward.  I highly recommend it! It is easy to breaststroke with the waves and is condusive to looking around for that "darn" buoy.
Just my .02

Hope everyone has a great day!

And good luck to those racing this weekend!!!

So was talking to my running coach last night .  (BTW if any of you need a pure running coach, let me know, he is great and as far as coaching goes extremely cheap cost wise, got his info from Suzy)

My nutrition plan for the marathon is a GU every 45 minutes.  I started off training with infinit but that is too much of a pain to carry for a run.  Now I am using the GU's.  He was concerned about not having elecrolytes in the GU and that I might need them.

Sam suggested the endurolyte I think caplets that we seem to get for free at every race.

Anyone have any bad experiences with them at all?

Kinda scary talking to him, yeah just run 8:45 - 9:00 for the race and you'll be fine... GULP....

Tony:

I have been taking the Endurolyte capsules since I am prone to cramps in my calves. They seem to help. I am proactive with them and do NOT wait until I am cramping to ake them. Good luck.

Trevor:

I know that was meant for Tracy, but I have to say that I am not even tempted a little bit. While it would be fun to get together in person, schleping my bike and stuff and wife and kids on a plane to do a tri has no appeal for me. I have plenty to choose from in my back yard.

I wish you all well and look forward to the pictures.

BK (Before Kids) Sam and I travelled all over the world to play golf mostly and just sightsee in general.

Stopped that when kids came along but now we are using Tri's to replace that travel.  Last year we went to Miami in November for the Miami MAN tri.  We had a blast. We took the auto-train down from DC and just loaded our bikes on the back of the car and picked it up in Orlando off the train. Drove a few hours to Miami.  Going to Outer Banks in November for Sam's marathon with some Neighbors.

This year we plan at least one maybe 2 destination tri's.

Not saying you should come to Lonestar or not but we use it to satisfy that travel bug we have.

Totally agree with you Tony...... I am totally viewing this 4 days as a getaway- Whether the wife comes down with me or not, the kids will not be coming. I love my girls, but boy I need an 'adult' break from them every once in a while .
Its crazy that a 'sanity weekend' used to be jumping on a plane with the bride and hitting Vegas for a few days. Now its training through the winter , to jump on a plane down to Texas trying to physically push myself to finish a physical event in under 7 hours.

My job usually requires me to travewl overseas 6 times a year on average. Therefore travel by myself for vacation is unfair to the family as I am absent too much as it is. Bringing them to a tri I just found (at Pinehurst) is very distracting. They have no idea how to work to my schedule so that I can mentally focus on the event at hand. Maybe when they are older.

The kids said they both want to do a kids triathlon next year, so we'll see. But seeing as how they put up with my training, a long distance tri is not in the plans.

I am such a wimp when it comes to peer pressure (that is how I got sucked into B2B!) and you guys aren't making it any easier!!!    Thanks for the flight info Trevor, but I would have to multiply by 2 for the hubby -  unless I ditch him and have a ladies weekend.  My work has a branch office in Austin - think they would pay to get me to Austin and then I only have to sherpa myself to Galveston?  I'm not saying NO yet........

Tony - electrolytes,   when I am doing long workouts/races I take one electrolyte and one Anti-fatigue on schedule, depending on the heat.  In the summer it is everytime I take nutrition but in the cooler weather it is about once an hour.  I agree with Doug on taking them proactively as well and if it was a very sweaty workout I'll pop 2 more when I get home. No problems.

Another option are the NUUN tablets,  they work very well with your fluid of choice.  You can drop the tablets into your drink and they disolve with instant electrolyte replenishment.  Personally I use them mostly on the bike, either in my  Cytomax or straight water.  It is especially convenient in aero bottles, you can refill the bottle with the race provided water and drop in a tablet as well.  Plus I use the empty cases to hold my electrolytes and anti-fatigue tablets in my nutrition belt during the run - that way they stay dry.  I don't usually put them in my water for a run b/c I like the option of pouring my water on my head and the last thing I need are bees chasing me due to my "enhanced" water now all over my body.

Absolutely...You are different. If I had a job like yours I would not want to be jumping on a plane without the family!

Tony-what is the weather forecast for the race?  If you have been training with Infinit with electrolytes and then try to use Endurolytes you MAY not get enough sodium et al, esp if you are a heavy sweater like me.  I used to use Success Tabs as a precaution along with Infinit, but have never gone without something else. Kind of a dangerous strategy IMO.

Doug--totally understand your rationale for bypassing Lonestar.  I know it will be a far greater hassle to get my crap to Gavelston, but my desire to meet the group outweighs it.  I don't have kids and am sure that makes it far easier. I am aslo certain it will be my one destination race for '10.

Linda--that is one of the reasons I am learning breaststroke.  So far all it does is makes my legs cramp up, but like everything else related to swimming things come slower for me. It'll happen!

Lots going on this weekend which is always fun....making this awesome Turtle Cake for Pauls' mom. If anyone wants a Yummy and Super Fattening dessert it is the one to turn to....

Thermolytes (same thing as endurolytes) and Roctane (Ryan is a fan of that stuff

But I use GU and Thermolytes.  I think Roctane has a higher electrolyte count so you can void the pill?? MAYBE?!
