Master 1678 Olney, MD | Subject: RE: LaurenSU02's group - CLOSED! Aikidoman - 2008-05-20 10:24 AM I have to toot the old horn a little today. I hit two personal benchmarks: FIRST, I got up early to workout! WOOT! Not that I've never did that before, but 4:45 was awefully early. Also, I'm 99.9% sure I had my longest swim ever this morning!..... It wasn't all that bad, either! Had the pool to myself, the pool room was nice and toasty and the water was warm! Congrats on your accomplishments today!! Funny thing is... I saw that you posted on the thread and the first thing I thought was... Jim must have gotten up early this morning for a workout. YAY!! |

Master 1678 Olney, MD | Subject: RE: LaurenSU02's group - CLOSED! Jim -- do you swim in an outdoor pool year round?? I'm just curious if that's normal for Las Vegas folks. I was there about a few years ago, during December I think, and we took my little cousin to swim practice (it was actually SNOWING!! outside) and they had their practice at an outdoor pool. Craziness! |

Sensei Sin City | Subject: RE: LaurenSU02's group - CLOSED! Shiggy, Took a couple minutes and some company resources and put this together for you! Please note, it's just to compare scale..... The blue is the Muncie course. The magenta is the silverman course here in Nevada. Granted, the Silverman is one of the tougher courses, but most people can handle the hills. I never saw anyone walking them. I think in comparison, the Muncie doesn't look to bad and I think you should have no issues. I think it just looked bad in the profile view due to the exagerated vertical scale. Edited by Aikidoman 2008-05-20 10:05 AM |

Craziness! I swim inside at the gym. But there are a couple outdoor pools that I know are open year round.... |

Craziness! I have to interject on this one. I used to live in central Oregon. The town had a wonderful outdoor pool that was heated with hot spring water. It was open year round. I loved going to the pool in the middle of winter with snow piled up all over the place and steam rising all around me! The trip to and from the locker room was not very pleasant, though! |

First go to mapmytri.com (or mapmyrun.com) and do the same thing that you would do here to put in a route. Once the route is in, just below the map is the elevation button. Hit that and you get the profile. In the bottom right is a tiny link that says "CVL data" Or "CVS data ", or something like that - you should see it. If you click that, it will ask you to open or save - pick whichever you want. It will open into an excel file that has a couple columns. Obviously, you want the mile marker and the elevation. Just create a graph using excel. For this instance though, I had to do it twice for each route and merge the data (cut and paste), I shifted all of the silverman data down a couple hundred feet so both profiles start at the same "baseline" for easier comparision. Voila! |

OK, now I'm gloating..... sorry.... is it? LP looks like a delta of 1500 from min to max (they put all of them starting at zero so they could be more easily compared), and that whole change happens over about 40+ miles. from your graph the min to max of silverman looks like 1200ft. either way, they both look hard to me! i'd put both in a category of "something i don't want to do". kudos to both of you, but i'll stick to the flat races, thank you very much . oh, and the short ones too . tee hee. |

Sensei Sin City | Subject: RE: LaurenSU02's group - CLOSED! I humbly recant. IMLP is a beast! I compared the two and they are both super nasty. I have been wasting some serious time, but what else I'm I to do at work?!?!?!? Both are out of my league. If I actually attempt the Silverman, I may HAVE to do another IM that's flat to see how fast I can go. As a matter of fact, all the tri's here in Vegas are on the same course. Maybe that's why I seem to pathetically slow! (I'll just keep telling myself that, heh!)

I need a carrot at the end of the stick to stay focused. This may be premature of me only having 1 sprint under my belt, but I I may take you up on that. In fact, I have Lots-O-family in FL (Miami), so I may be interested in doing IMFL next year or the 70.3. Anyone know if it's super hard to get into? When would I need to sign up or is 09 allready sold out? |

Wow, that is sooooo helpful! Also, now I know never to try Silverman Does anyone know how the bike on IM KY compares? Not an NA race, so not on the compare bike courses link as the other IMs are up there. I've read lots of posts here on BT that those hills are tough. |

Sensei Sin City | Subject: RE: LaurenSU02's group - CLOSED! So I looked up all the IM races (Ford Series). All the US and Canada races are sold out (to be expected) but I'm surprised how many over seas races are still open for this year. IM Japan anyone? THAT would be a dream race for me.... Anyway, I may drive down to IMAZ this Nov to see if I can sign up for 09 (I think that's how it works) or go to FL. I think those are the only two places I can convince my better half to go..... IMFL 09? Could that me a new goal? hmmmmm..... |

I was a little off. IMFL is the weekend before the race. During my taper so important workouts would have to be missed and it could give me some motivation! So that should work out. IMAZ is a couple weeks after my race, so that works too. |
