Where can I find a mentor group? Everything I saw is full. I have signed up for my first two Sprint Tri's this summer. Looking for advice on everything!

Thanks,

Amy

Hi, Amy! Welcome to BT!

I'm not exactly sure how the mentor program works here, but it's possible they'll be starting up new groups in a few months (on the other hand, they might not start again until January). In the meantime, you can find loads of great advice by reading the threads of mentor groups that are already up and running, as well as the threads in the main triathlon forums. For what it's worth, I lurked on the BT forums for months before I ever posted anything or joined a mentor group, and I learned A TON doing that.

Renee, it's such a relief to hear from you, CONGRATULATIONS on an amazing race, and an even more amazing attitude. I do have tears coming to my eyes. We were following your progress on the tracker, in this thread, and also in the Watching thread (that's where I posted we were waiting for news from you). So you have been thought of and cheered on very much today.

You pulled off a great swim, I know you struggle with that, so well done. Your bike split was SSSSSSSSSSSpeedy!!!

Thank you sooooooo much for cheering for me Sunday!  I am honored that you were all thinking of me!!  Thanks for the compliments on the race too . . . I was happy with my times - pretty surprised by them even

Well, not much comfort, but you do hold an AWESOME PR in a long course, 1.2 mi swim/56 mi bike/11 mi run that you will probably hold forever

The cancellation was quite a letdown, but this made me smile - thanks   I SURE hope to never get the opportunity to break that PR!!

Fielding - 2008-06-15 9:37 PM Renee!! Congratulations, major congratulations, on a fantastic race. It's such a huge accomplishment and you made us all so proud! I'm so sad you weren't able to run those last two miles (and man, two miles, that is killer). I've been thinking of you all day -- first, following your progress, then worrying about whether you'd been allowed to finish. Thank you for checking in with us -- you are amazing!

Thanks for your thoughts Erin, Melissa, and Leslie!

Hello group. It sure does seem like we lost a lot of folks. I hope they are on their way back.

Renee, your race report was awesome. I'm so glad you shared all of your journey. It really is inspiring!

Positive Thought of the Day: I needed to shake things up a bit so I started a new training plan! Things like them always get me fired up. It's a lot more volume then I've been doing but we'll see what I've got in the way of time and fitness. Should be fun.

I hope everyone has a good Wednesday!

Here's the latest on my upcoming race

They are talking about an outside possibility of making it a tri again.  They will make a decision (based on bacteria levels and the availablity of transition areas) on Thursday for age groupers and by the 5PM race meeting on Friday for Elites.

what a rollercoaster! LOL

I can't speak for all of the MIA folks, but I know Terri is just crazy busy at work. They are in full-swing trial mode right now. I'm supposed to have lunch with her on Saturday as I swing through on my way down to Del Mar. I haven't seen her since the weekend of the CA 70.3, so I'm really excited!

Whee! Quite the rollercoaster indeed. I'll be crossing my fingers for a tri, Beth (though I still say you'd kick butt in a du).

That's great! I totally agree on the new training plans -- nothing gets me motivated more than a new training plan. My friends have actually started making fun of me re: training plans. I like to do them on spreadsheets, color-coded and everything. And I've even made them up for friends who have decided to do races. I don't know what it is, but I *love* creating training plans.

And speaking of friends doing races, it looks like I may have convinced *three* friends to join me in a half mary in October. SO COOL!

I'm doing the Intermediate 10 week Olympic plan. I'm going to do the first 5 weeks and then start over and do the whole program which will take me to the race in September.

Good morning!

First off, thanks for all the nice comments, you're all way to nice!

Second, that's the last time I try to sneak something like that. Yanti is a magnet. I believe I've told her that quite a few times in the past.

Positive Thought of the Day: I'm not going to be able to train today and I'm ok with it! I'm good at beating myself up, hence Yanti's instruction to have positive posts, but the reality is that I don't have time and it's not going to kill me to skip a day.

I hope everyone else is having a good day. I'm off of work tomorrow so that also helps with a good mood!

Hi there Manatees!  I am so sorry I haven't been around lately.  Its been a little crazy around my house.  Today is the last day of school for my daughter which gives both us a much needed and well deserved break. She really worked hard this past year and did really well.  I have been at my job now over a month and its going well  I think.  Its a job - the happiest times are when the paychecks come.   As for this tri stuff, I've pretty much decided I am going to do Vineman. I was on the fence there pretty seriously for a while and was thinking about quitting.  The truth is I am too excited and have been thinking about it too long not to - I did sign up in November after all.   Its going to go the way it will right?  It could be a great day or it could suck big time perfectly trained or not.  So there ya go!

I do read here almost everyday and try to keep up with race reports which I love.   Have a great day!  Thank you for the inspires Manatees.

MIA? That's me!

I've been super-wrapped up in work lately.  So not much internet time.  Plus, I'm having trouble getting out to train.  The weather's been crappy here lately.  It's par for the course for this time of year - FYI to anyone coming to FL, don't do it in the summer - it's HOT and WET.  Even so, it's a little disheartening to get all psyched up to swim/ride/run and have it cancelled due to weather.  I'm trying to save money, so no gym membership, but I may have to find a cheap one with at least a treadmill.

I am still updating the logs, but not so much on the forum.  I need to hang around more often.  Might be good for inspiration.

Hi all....I am on here more than is obvious....the kids are out of school so basically I get zero minutes per 24 hours to do anything that I want to do.  I am really battling depression right now and have begun seeking medical help, so that is the first step.  I blame a lot of that on the lack of sun--it has been a terrible spring here with cold weather and rain almost every day.  Even when the sun does come out, it's usually cold.  I am considering a HIM for next summer, so it's fun to see that potential way out on the horizon.  I like having a big goal to train for.  In the meantime, I need to keep working on the little things, like being present for the kids, trying to get a workout in every day, and eventually being a good wife, which is not the case at the moment unfortunately.

Is that TMI?  Sorry about that....but as I said, I am working on making positive changes.  I love reading all the posts and race reports and I do even read logs even when I don't have time to inspire!!

Wow, sounds like we're a crazy-busy group. I hope everyone's taking good care of themselves.

Whoa, wait, that's really weird ... where have I heard that before ...

Hi Manatees! Yep, everyone has major stuff going on, or a lot of minor stuff hitting all at once, or is just diving into whatever life is bringing them. We'll have cycles where it's very busy in here and sometimes not.

This is a very open group. In my opinion, TMI is when the forum moderators think the thread should be yanked.  Not that I would know about, or ever have had anything to do with, or ever even participated in a thread that got yanked ... ha ha ha.

You never know what another Manatee might be struggling with, and in any case, I think it helps the sharer to share whatever joys or difficulties they are having (and it almost always helps someone else, too).

So Leslie, thank you.

I've got major stuff going on as well, thankfully some of it is getting resolved or heading in a direction now. I was very quiet in limbo for a while, just didn't know what was here or there or what to do or how to do it.

I'm taking off for Indonesia (my home) in a few days for three weeks--bad news is that dad's very sick, good news is my sister scored me an entry to Indonesia's only tri, which just happens to be then. Unfortunately I have a terrible cold right now, just as I really need to be working a lot and preparing for the trip, but whatevs. At least I get to sleep.

That's it on my end. I'll be scurrying to your logs and Renee's race report ASAP.
