Master 1779 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Wow! It looks like everyone had an awesome training weekend. I can't believe we're 40 days out either. I had a low training weekend. Rebuilding after being out sick for a while. Next week everything ramps back up again. We went swimming tonight in the Gulf. The water was very choppy. Hoping it will be calm on race day! I must have swallowed half of the ocean. |

Regular 70 in a pool, on a bike, or up the trail | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I completely skipped doing any kind of ride today, on the nicest perfectest day we've had in weeks. Took multiple naps instead. They rocked! Did centuries both of the prior two weekends though, and I'm more interested in sticking to my final run build. Three more weeks: 17 / 18.5 / 20. That's as far as I'm going. Then comes a 13.1 (as part of a do-it-yourself HIM) and a final 8 taper. |

What was up with that swim???? I did 40mins in the Choptank for Eagleman and it took me 1:41 yesterday!! I am so glad I did this race though. Major confidence boost. Took a short little run afterwards and the legs left good. I really felt bad for those runners yesterday though. The rain started to pick up in the evening.
I did ChesapeakeMan AV as well. The swim was a little tough, but a great confidence booster! And as far as the bike I dont think you could ask for tougher conditions for a flat course, headwinds and a washboard section that jarred most of my fillings loose! I didnt run afterwards, but did drive down to Tappahannock, VA and raced Naylor's Beach Oly yesterday. I didnt realize how tired my body was until about 3/4 of the way through that swim. The bike was a bit challenging too, but I kept telling myself "hey its only 25 miles!" I actually was looking forward to the run as I was 'biked out' for the weekend. A fun day none the less and ended up 3rd in my AG. Less than 6 weeks and counting! Yea baby! |

Member 60 Spanish Fort, Alabama | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread As with most others, I had a big day Saturday. 105 on the bike with a 30 min brick and 1.5 hours in the pool. I felt pretty good throughout, still working on my nutrition plan. Need to lose 10lbs. and not having much success there (seems odd with all the training). Using "the stick" for massage after and it is really helping keep soreness down. Glad to have a lighter week this week. Not looking too far ahead, still some tough days to get through... All- keep up the great work, and remember to thank your home team for all their support!! |

THat section of road that was bumpy was brutal! The second loop screamed, WTF!! My water kept splashing out of my aero bottle and getting my sunglasses wet. I was curious to see what others thought of the wind too I guess it could have been worse but it was challenging. great weekend of training! |

On google maps it looks like the course is nothing but highways. How did you go out and train on the course without getting killed? I did a "street view" and it looks like highways with a small shoulder. Did you just stay on the shoulder and have cars whiz past you at 80 miles an hour? I was thinking about heading down for a preview weekend but that kinda scared me. During the race they have one lane of the highways closed down in most sections. The other roads the cars are really not an issue. I figured during the race they would do something like that. I was just curious about all the people who have gone down and done the course without the lane blocked for practice. Seems like it would be dicey but I have never been on those highways before. I would love to go ride them but don't want to get an injury in the process. |

Member 60 Spanish Fort, Alabama | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread As this is my "home course", I can tell you Front Beach Rd. Hwy 79 and Hwy 20 all have bike lanes and are nice rides, not much traffic and people are for the most part pretty tolerant of riders. Although they have just recently resurfaced 388, I avoid that section of the course as it has a narrow shoulder and a fair amount of traffic due to construction of the new airport (I'm sure it won't be a problem on race day). I will caution that there are not many water stop opportunities. There are convenience stores at Hwy 20 & 77 and at 20 & 231. There are however plenty of pine trees, roadkill, and opportunities for "natural breaks" when needed. We did just get a new Bear Crossing sign near Ebro. So, some good local advice- if you see a bear, or hear banjo music... pedal faster. |

New user 8 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Haven't posted much on here, just been following along and taking in all the advice being given. This will be my first Ironman also and I was looking over the Athletes guide and had a question for anyone who has done this before. I was planning on using a fuel belt for the run for my drink mix, but reading the guide it states; "You will not have access to your bike and run gear bags on race morning until after the swim, so please plan accordingly." If you can not get to your run gear bag in the morning does anyone have a suggestion on how to use a fuel belt? Thanks. Good Luck to all and be safe training. |

I've done the race twice. All the T1 and T2 bags are laid out on the ground in transition. You can get to them. Weather or not they decide to be hard and not let you is another thing. I would give you a good chance of being able to get to your T2 bag. The run course is like a sports food smorgassboard and there are aide station every mile....really closer because its an out and back and they are on both sides of the road. IF you want you could put it in the T2 bag empty then race morning fill up the bottles 'if' you can get to it......or just fill it on the course. |

I just thought I might shoot down there and get a lay of the land before race day. Maybe I will drive out first and stage some water bottles. |

Extreme Veteran 481 The Land of Mickey-Orlando | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Created our own water stops this weekend on the IM FL bike course by tucking bottles of gatorade and water behind the Memorial Sheriff's Sign at the second leg of 388 and at the side road next to the bridge. I'm going to be asked to move to catcher..really a lot of fun talking with the athletes. |
