nice to see you back. We were getting a bit worried about you down our way.
And, BTW, Sands said you don't stand a chance at Rocketman......he has the run wrapped up.
Good for him. But I have a key and the alarm code for a pharmacy. I also have a 2-3 liters of blood in a freezer. I think I'll be ready. |

Expert 1310 Alabama | Subject: RE: BamaDC's Mentor Group v4.0 - Closed Alright, I need some advice on bike setup. I'm thinking of tinkering with my bike position to get in a more aggressive position(keep in mind, I have a HIM in Septebmer and a couple races leading up to it). I'm on a Trek 2.1 with aerobars (Profile T2's) added on. My seat is all the way forward on my seatpost right now, and I have about 3-4 spacers on my front bars. I'm thinking of taking out some spacers. If I do that, I believe I would have to move the seat forward (which I have no more room) and possibly up correct? And, if my seat is already as far forward as it will go, I'd need to turn the seatpost around to get more forward. Or can I take the spacers out and see how it goes? Is it worth tinkering with, or should I leave well enough alone and just get through my HIM, gain some bike fitness and save up for that new tri bike for next year (which is my plan for next year already)...... |

If your up there for 90 straight days, I'd take the bike with me. Sorry. Nope. Looks like I'll be there full time for the whole stretch. I'll get to come home every 30days for 5days then return. However, the days home don't count toward the 90 total, so I'll likely stay up there all 90. That's why it bother me to not have my bike... |

I'd be tempted to take the bike if your going to be up there that long and you have a place to ride. Wait, you still have your road bike right? Why not take it with you and leave the tri bike here for when your home. |

Maybe try and find a cheap forward seatpost or at least a zero setback post? And yes, if you do move the seat forward a bit you should probably move it up a tad. Not much - when my bike is setup forward I raise the seatpost maybe 1/4". |

So with my results of the 20 minute test from earlier in the week my new ftp is 272. But wait... that's not my new FTP it's my old FTP! Despite increasing by my 20 minute and 5 minute power my FTP is exactly the same. What gives?? Did I calculate something wrong? Screw up the test?

Extreme Veteran 1005 Sykesville | Subject: RE: BamaDC's Mentor Group v4.0 - Closed How was everyone's week? I'm pretty happy, I got all my workouts in (which I normally don't do). My bike volume is going to be a little low the next few weeks as I focus on getting my running volume back up. I really excited about swimming. I got in just over 5000 yds which is huge for me. Last year when training for an oly I maxed out a 5500 and 6100 the weeks leading up to the race so I'm really excited about starting out with a higher volume. This week has started out better. I am not motivated to swim right now since I don't have anything big coming up. I can coast off of my fitness there for a while - I think I was top 3% in the tri I just did. So its about the bike - my computer says my weekend ride was the toughest one I have ever recorded (and it went pretty well). Hopefully the work will pay off. |

The bike would've been better but there was a 1yr old bday party that conflicted in my riding window. Oh well. Swim: 4200yards (okay, so this was crappy) 10wks until my next Oly race. Time to buckle down! |

Glad someone posted this as my week last week was just plain rubbish and I need to make sure it doesn't happen again (first Oly is only 8 weeks away)! S: 0.00 M B: 48.81 Mi, 2h 56m 19s R: 4.10 Mi, 36m Yup, no swimming and only 1 run! My biking volume is also going to be a little lower than it has been as I'm doing one ride a week on the rollers so I get used to them before the crappy weather returns (plus the resistance on the rollers seems a bit high and is proving a good work out in a really small amount of time).

Wasn't a bad week, but my running seems to be lacking. I just can't keep up with the mileage in the HIM plan. It's got me running 32 miles this week, which seems a bit much, but I know 17 miles isn't enough, but it's so bloody hot down here. My bike isn't too far off, but I need to up the mileage to get ready for the HIM.

If your plan called for 32 but you only did 17 then you're going to build a pretty big mileage deficit pretty soon so the sooner you can make adjustments the better. When you say that you can't keep up with the mileage what do you mean? You can't complete the workouts (ie plan calls for 6 miles but you can only do 4 that day because heat, fatigue, etc) or that you're flat out missing workouts (plan called for 6 miles but you're just too tired to even go for a workout)? I looked at your logs and it kinda looks like it might be the first problem. You seem like you're getting out but the runs are all short (for what it's worth I generally have the opposite problem, I just don't get out). I also noticed that you haven't run anywhere near this volume (eg 32 miles). Building mileage is hard and I'm sure the heat isn't help. You're using the gold membership coaching write? Have you asked them what adjustments you should make? I'm really curious to hear what they say. |

I know, I'm being a wuss.....HTFU
I can do the mileage (no problem completing the runs). I built a pretty good base this winter for running and the biking has helped move that along. Although, I may be a bit behind on the long run which is scheduled at 9.5 this week. I did 7.5 last week with little problems at 11/min miles, besides dealing with the heat a bit. So, I need to work on my hydration with the heat and humidity, but I know I will be a bit slower completing the runs. Completing the runs doesn't seem to be an issue at a slower pace. It's finding the time to get in the 32 miles a week with all the other training going on, work, etc. If the plan calls for 7 miles, I may get in 5 instead. So, I find myself cutting the mileage and just not getting in a scheduled run, so it would be the latter more so due to time. I'm talking with the coach about adjusting the plan a bit for the running. I'm scheduled at 5 runs per week, which may be a bit aggressive for me. I think I will drop that back to 3-4 runs per week, and try to get in a deviated mileage to build my long run back up to 13 or so. I've got plenty of time to adjust, just need to work out the particulars. |
