I am not worried about missing races, they will still be there next year and with any luck I will still catch my A race for the year. Ken, so sorry to hear about your shoulder! I am glad you are still thinking about your A race though! It won't be anywhere near as fun if you aren't there. I am still hoping to be there and race ready. I may even come down if I am not, but that may be tough to do! |

I'm kinda struggling with this. I'm in the wait and see phase right now. But my shoulder is hurt bad enough where it took 20 minutes Sunday morning to get a shirt on. I've gotten limited movement back since then. At this time I'm sure nothing is broken, but I don't think I'll know if something is torn until I try to swim again. I don't see that happening till next week right now. I'm 9 weeks from my "A" race. If I can't pick it up and start training hard next week I may be able to be on the starting line at RAcine, but I won't be in the condition I want to be in. I'll basically be trying survive the swim to get to the bike and run. |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Wesley12 - 2012-05-14 9:18 PM We leave Thursday for Florida. Big vaction to go with Florida 70.3. My wife and girls are super excited about the trip to Disney and the Disney cruise the weekend after the race. I'm not real sure if I'm excited or extra nervous about the race or just very ready for the vaction. Could be a little of both. Either way, they are both coming up in a hurry.
You are going to LOVE that Disney cruise!!! Best cruise line by far!! Go get yourself a massage on the beach at Cast a way Key!! |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() peterflagg - 2012-05-14 10:03 PM Hey everyone, I am going to be absent for a little while. Unfortunately my GF and I have decided to part ways. We've been together for 6 years and were planning on getting married this July. I am hurt, I am sad and I just don't know what I am going to do. I am still hoping that a large hole opens up and swallows me. This actually hurts more then my divorce many years ago. I will talk to you guys later.
Peter
Hang in there Peter! I know it really sucks now, but I promise, the hurt goes away after a while. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() GOOD Morning everyone! Peter - {{{hugs}}} Adam - "Remember (I need to remind myself of this) most of the time you are only trying to beat yourself. I try my hardest to only beat my time and not to beat myself up for the would of could of's......" Love it. There have been times where I would beat myself up comparing myself to others, but it's just becoming exhausting, and I realized it's no fun. I'm on the mend, arm is healing up nicely. Bruise on my leg looks horrible. I've been banned from going on MTB rides for a couple months before my wedding by my fiance and Mom. :-) Still have a few months to ride before banning begins. Went on an easy run this morning, and frankly I'm surprised on how I felt. It was very easy, and felt like I could go forever. Looks like I need to adjust my easy/moderate/hard run paces again. Should have wore my HR monitor, that would have been helpful. I think some of my previous runs were a little more harder than I really should have gone. I am hoping that by doing 4 runs a week, 2 easy, 1 moderate, 1 hard or long (not both), will help me. Am I wrong to think this way? I'm trying to increase frequency, but not so much on the volume. I may even add one more easy run (I'm talking about UP to 2 miles), when I start my HIM training. It's easy enough for me to add a mile by just going out my door to end of street and back. I'm not sure if 4-5 runs will actually hurt me in the end, but if 50% of the runs are easy and short, I figured it's better than going much longer. Volume will probably still kind of stay the same (maybe a little more), just broken up a little bit more. Edited by CyborgQueen 2012-05-15 9:08 AM |

My wife tried to ban me from the MTB too when I came home Sunday! LOL
BTW.....It was when I started running 4x a week when I started improving leaps and bounds. 2 easy, 1 interval/temp, 1 long run. I would do the interval run for 2 weeks straight, then 1 week do that run either easy or tempo depending on how I felt. Long run I would do 2 weeks Long or build (depends where your at distance wise on your own training) and the one week step back. I would do 15-16 miles for 2 and then the third do 8, for reference. This seemed to help me more than any plan has in the past. It's basically, a modification I made to Higdon's Novice 2 plan to fit my own ability and time constraints. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Peter - hang in there, we will still be here when you are ready. DJ - I am trying to ramp up my running by doing 4xweek (1 long, 1 med, 2 short ALL SLOW) as well. Unfortunately I am starting to have some shin splint issues in my pf foot/leg. Really can't afford to cut back on the running as I just signed up for my first sprint tri yesterday - its on June 2 and my longest run has only been 2 miles. ugghhhh! Brian - I hope your shoulder gets better fast - that is the one thing about mtb I could do without - the crashing! Edited by robingray_260 2012-05-15 10:44 AM |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() If the rain holds off, I'll be going to the "Maine Track Club" weekly session tonight to get some stretching, form, and breathing help. Looking forward to it. Hopefully they won't beat me up too much. I need some assistance since I seem to be struggling with my breathing. In the nose, out the mouth; or in the mouth, out the mouth??? First 5K this weekend, excited and nervous. I really have no clue what to expect. I'll find out soon! |

Good luck! Just try to not get too excited and start the race too fast. Run at your own pace. |

My wife is running for team PAWS this year and they have her in a training program and are going over form and breathing. She keeps asking me about it. I really don't have any advice about it though. I always tell her "more running!!.....and less worrying about the little things". I'm a big believer in your body figuring out efficiency on its own, the more you do something. Good luck this weekend Lynie!! |

Race YOUR own race, don't worry too much what other people are doing. If you need to walk, then walk. That simple. :-) |

Certainly was a bad month for the group!
I just bit my pride a bit and bought a pressure suit and bunch of pads for my MTB endevours. My shoulder is still sore! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Well...I did my first LT test today (technically 2nd, but I don't think two years ago test counts). Kind of shocked to find my HR a little lower than expected. I was sweating a LOT, and I don't normally sweat that much. It did feel like I gave it all, but now I'm not sure. Is there a way I can tell that I really did give it all? By the time I finished the 20 min test, I couldn't really do any more spinning. Took about a min and half for my 153 HR to get to 110 bpm. I got off the bike, and just forgot to do the 10-15 min warm down, got back on, and felt kind of dead. After about 10-15 minutes, I felt "normal" again. Am I supposed to feel "burning" in the legs? Physically hurt? The reason why I ask is, I didn't feel like I was hurting, but felt like I couldn't go any more after 20 minutes. I maintained a 91 RPM avg. Do I need to go in a harder gear? According to the test, My LTHR is 150. However, it seems like on the road when I do some good rides or whatever, I'm in the upper end of Zone 3 and low end of Z4. Even looking back two years ago, my HR is in Zone 4 majority, yet my RPE feels lower. That doesn't seem right. Do I need to do the test again, and how soon can I do it? Thanks for those who have experience! |

Member![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey everyone, I am still around. Did not run for a couple of days, in fact did a LITTLE emotional eating, but not too bad. Did not gain any weight so I am extremely happy with that. I did my first post break up run today, it was grat to just do it. I am looking at moving probably the end of next month, to west of Rochester, Chili area, and love the area because it has plenty of spots to run and bike. Got to think about something for swimming though. So here is a little therapy for me...For the guys don't pick on me too bad for this...When I decided to get healthy and change my life, I first did it for myself. Secondly though, I did it so I could have more time with her. I didn't want to die at an early age and never hold her. I never pictured a life without her. I always planned on her being at my races, cheering me on, me at her races cheering her on. I know it might seem so stupid, but I did have a silly storybook look at love with her. She is an awesome lady and I will always have a love for her, but we just cannot work together. I hate the idea of someone else holding her and kissing her, but I got to try and not think of it. Thanks for letting me just vent a little bit.

None of this seems stupid. It kind of hurt my heart to read this, took me back to a really bad breakup I had years ago. Good that you got out and did a run, keeping endorphins flowing will help with healing. All you can do is take it one day at a time. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() This group has taken some hits this past month. I have my first Olympic race on Sunday and came down with sore throat and that achy feeling last night. Thought it was allergies initially but it's definitely turning into a cold. Can't take any time off work so I'm just going to keep fingers crossed that things improve in the next couple of days. |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Going out for my 2nd and last run around the National Mall in a few minutes. We did 13 Congressional meetings yesterday and then enjoyed the Washington National vs. Pittsburgh Pirates game last night. Long day, but hopefully successful. After the run and finish packing making the 6 hour drive home. Who else is racing this weekend? Any big training plans? |
