OMG, can't believe what a weekend everyones had.

Have yet to read the race reports but very proud of all our girls racing and the effort they put into their respective races. Some wise words have already been spoken on which i cannot improve. Just very proud of you all and glad to be part of this special group of people.

Yanti, you attention seeker, is there nothing you can't catch. (Twice!). Hope you get through it without too much suffering. Image drifting through my mind of distressed maiden being fanned with palm leaves by hunky surf piglets.

Some lovely pics kicking around. I will have to try to get my stoneage brain trained to this computer age then i will be able to put some of my own on here.

cough cough ... that's actually not too far from the truth I mean, I do live in surferville, so they're the closest ones available to help, right?

It's not your fault you live in some sort of paradise. Now get well soyou can reward those hard working piglets.

200m freestyle breathe every 3

200m (100 back/100 breast)

200m (100m front scull/100m mid scull)

200m otter scull

Fins off - with pull buoy

100m, breathe 2, 100m breathe 3, 100m breathe 4, 100m breathe 5, 100m breathe 6

Supposed to do this set 4 times, I did 3 sets up to the breathe 5 then had to jump out as i had to get home.

Awesome! Total for me 2.4km

I covered my eyes once you got up to 100m breathe 4 cos i new it was going to get scary after that.

Back last night from a family weekend in Western New York (mom-in-law's 80th birthday).  Found myself entering the  Buffalo Half Marathon on June 30th with sis-in-law.  Not sure if it's the smartest idea after ankle sprain 3 weeks ago, but couldn't resist a finish line on the 50 yard line of the Bill's stadium!  (plus it was a great schwaggle  deal).  I figure I'll just take it easy and enjoy it as a social event.

First outdoor exercise since sprain this morning, 5k race walk.  Still had to hobble going downhill, but for the most part, the race walking was pain-free (feels better than regular walking).  Got in a swim as well.

Is there any other way? Good effort on the 5k race walk.

bcraht - 2012-04-16 11:19 PM How often do y'all foam roller yourselves?  (We call it the roller doo-ey at our house.)  I think I should probably do it more often, but I avoid it cause it hurrrrts.  Maybe if I did it more regularly it wouldn't so much?  So do you roller doo-ey yourself when you are sore?  Or after hard workouts?  Or on a set schedule?

Having had the odd calf problem, i have been 'self-massaging' then my son told me about this particular/perculiar practice. I only have a wooden rolling pin but thought i would give it a go. I agree, it does hurrrrt. But kinda nice so i might invest in some foam.

It's already been said, but great work to everyone who raced this weekend! EVERYONE was a champ in some respect - take away what you can from the experience and put it towards the next outing.

Yanti, rest up and get better - we need you back at full speed for all the encouragement and wisdom.

Felicia - OMG tornadoes! I'm so glad to hear everything is ok.

Salty - Seattle looks gorgeous! I really want to do a trip to the Pacific NW, it looks lovely and so outdoorsy.

I personally had a lovely weekend.  Saturday I did the indoor computrainer interval class for an hour (that was HARD), then horseback riding (mostly without stirrups, i-yi-yi).  THen off to Boston for drinks on the deck and beerfest, FUN! SUnday was lazy, very unseasonably warm here.  Laid around (very tired from the beer outing!) then read on the porch.  Today was a beach day - over 80!!! WE walked there and back, and went for a walk down the beach, that was the extent of my exercise, lol.  Then ice cream, first of the season, yum! (chocolate with reese's cup and peanut butter chunks).  Good day! It makes me not want to go back to work EVER!

Now thats what i call a weekend!!

It does hurrrrrt. But it really works.

Can you tell i have had a spare 15 minutes at work?

Been to my local tri shop today for the first time and treated myself to a pair of 2xu tri shorts, a number band and elastic laces in readiness for MY FIRST EVER TRI this weekend. (yes i am excited).

Got in an 8 mile bike yesterday which included a 1.4 mile hill. Probably my last ride before the event as the bike is going into my LBS for a service.

I am just about to leave work for a big swim. I am hoping to hit 1000m for the first time.

Tommorrow will be my last run, which i will take steady, after which i will be on a 'go slow' exercise wise so that i am bursting with energy on Sunday.

Hope you are all having a good week and that injuries clear up quickly.

That's so exciting, Allen. I get jittery in the days leading up to a race. You are going to have so much fun.

And a 1.4 mile hill is no joke.

Good morning, all! It is a lovely day here in the heartland. Sunny, calm, and about 60 degrees. I'm planning to take my Zoots out for their first run this afternoon. Yippee!!

I'm feeling all supermom here, this morning. For some reason, the saddle on my teen's bike decided to fall last night. So I pulled the bike into the house, found the right sized hex wrench, loosened the wrench, raised the saddle up (higher than it was because it was too low before), and tightened 'er up. When he came down for breakfast, there was his bike with the saddle fixed.

Then we rode our bikes to work/school this morning. My hybrid had a flat, and I didn't have time to change it, so I just pumped it up and went anyway. It still seemed fine when we got to work/school, but we'll see how it is when I go out there at lunch. :-(

Yanti -- I hope you are resting. How long will it take for you to feel like yourself again?\

Allen is racing this weekend -- who else is slated?

Hey all, getting caught up on the threads while in class....

I did a 5 mile run yesterday (11:49 pace)---11:49 seems to be my regular pace...I'd like to make it about 10:15 or better, but I know that will come with more running and time...This afternoon I will hit the open water again. Its been 70's here the last few days, and it looks like we will be hitting the 80's by the weekend, so temps should be increasing slightly in the water. Tonight, my husband will accompany me--and possibly also get some swim time in...little by little, he is getting closer to doing tri stuff--he even bought running shoes last week! It will be a bit weird for me, I have always been used to doing the majority of my workouts/training by myself...Anyway, I have to basically spend 45 minutes in the water tonight (no distance expectations), then again on Thursday--though a bit shorter time, as I'll be doing a brick that day. On Thursday, I am actually joining a meetup group--should be fun!

Okay, back to class stuff time...

Good Morning everyone. I hope all is well with you, even if it isn't morning. I have to thank all of you for helping me get through the post race non-training blahs that I was struggling with. There is so much going on in here, so many people racing (and not in the prettiest weather I might add), the questions are flying and the energy is AWESOME. If that isn't motivating, I don't know what is. So, Thank You All

I got in another run in the park this morning since I have to work the late shift. What a nice morning. Tomorrow will be the bike and a meeting in the evening, so no training then. Thursday and Friday will be doubles, and I'm trying to find a long group ride for Sat or Sun. I have not been able to get much water time, and when I do, I will not be doing anything like the "Jobaxas torture session." WOW, how do you do those? I am so envious of your abillity and toughness. But, you have given me a goal of someday just doing 2000 m in a pool. Someday.

Kirsten, I had some issues with the bike a while back when I went over 2 hours. I have been playing with the saddle in an effort to relieve it, and I believe it is working. So you may want to start there, it is the least expen$ive change to make. Another thing is, do you find yourself always starting, pushing and leaning to the right? I am VERY right side specific when I ride, and I found early on that I had to be concious to even things out and not use one side of the body more than the other. It may be as simple as that, I sure hope so for you.

Allen, I hope you enjoy your race this weekend. I agree with Felicia, 1.4 mile of hill is not a joke. Get the bike ready and you'll rock this!!!

Is anyone else racing?

OK, enough for me, I have to get back to work. I'll check in later. Enjoy whatever your day may bring!

Is there a USGS site where you can check water temperatures?  It always helps my piece of mind a bit to know that the lake is x degrees and it was fine.

Tonight, my husband will accompany me--and possibly also get some swim time in...little by little, he is getting closer to doing tri stuff--he even bought running shoes last week! It will be a bit weird for me, I have always been used to doing the majority of my workouts/training by myself...

Single leg drills on the trainer?

I was afraid someone was going to say that.  I hate those Tongue out

I would try moving the nose of your saddle a millimetre or two to the left and see what happens. Possibly also a millimetre or two UP (not down).

When (minutes) into a hard/long ride do you feel it start to hurt/twinge/different than the left?

What you really need to do is find out WHY this is happening (yep, I realize that's exactly what you asked, heh), and then you can fix it. The reason I recommend trying out a saddle adjustment first is that a) it's a common contributor to a L/R discrepancy, but most of all b) world's easiest fix if that's the problem (and the solution diagnoses the problem). If not, no harm no foul. You just move the saddle back and move on to Plans B, C, etc.

I don't usually notice it on the ride to be honest.  Maybe just endorphins.  It's generally not until the next day.  I'll try moving my saddle and see how it goes.

On the issue of exercising and the spouse - how does that work for everyone else? My husband has never been into exercising (supremely unfairly, he is thin n'trim from a diet of pepsi and cheez-its), and now that I'm all tri-happy he has been extra pissy about me taking time to train. I'd also like to get more involve in my tri team, but I know he'll moan.  I've offered him to join me on any of the THREE sport options and he poo-poos them all.  Looking at what someone other manatees have going on in their lives, with work, kids, HIM etc., and the training they manage to get in (I'm looking at you Jo), how do you get it all done?  Does anyone else have a coachpotato spouse/sig. other who resents the training?  I just love it and can't understand why training and being healthy and active is something that is not valued by the hub. Frown

My partner isn't a couch potato but she thinks I am NUTS. She also manages a gym which you might think would be a plus but honestly the last thing she wants to do when she gets off of work is be in a gym.

With all the running I do it pretty much equates to a part time job. What I do is work really hard to minimize her visibility to the time I spend working out. I am lucky enough to have a gym at work so I do a lot of my runs mid-day. We had to compromise on the weekends that we do breakfast together at least one of the days.

She does go to the gym twice a week and I go with, generally these are my two-a-days.

It's a lot of work on my part and definitely some compromise but I think it's important to have balance and quite honestly my relationship is way more important that my workouts will ever be.

DH has his activities and I have mine.  He kayaks (mostly whitewater) and mountain bikes and, oddly, uses my old road bike on a bike trainer but will not ride a road bike outside.  huh.

When I signed up for Vineman, I asked him if he minded doing a lot of kayaking in May, June and July.  He replied, "No, why?"  I said because if I am going on a six hour bike ride, it would be easier for me if he was kayaking.  Last Saturday, I had a four hour bike ride and he was rushed me to change cloths, etc. so that we could go and do something.  I don't think that he realizes that he is doing this but geez -- let me shower and change.
