Mark H, in addition to the above comments I would add that whether you ride on the nose or back of the saddle - change your position occasionally and give the tired bit a chance to recover. As far as the bike fit, I will repeat the opinion of my neighbour who was a pro cyclist - it is very useful for maximising power output, but when it comes to comfort, standard set up may not be always ideal for an individual... He was talking about the road bike. Tri bikes, according to him, are set up neither for power nor comfort, just minimising the wind resistance and thus a pain in the a$$ and neck at the same time (!)

Jim, glad you had a fun weekend and that is a lot of blueberries, you should send some down here to Guatemala :-)

Mark Hodges, how are you doing with your new tri bike?  I see you are doing pretty structured workouts, what race are you preparing for?

Adding a 4000m swim yesterday and a good 8 mile interval run today (10x800m)

Since Saturday, I have run 3 miles on separate occasions and one 45' swim. Big accomplishment and no new pains - some of the old ones remain.

@Mark H: I may have missed it, but what's ride and setup?

Joe, I hope you didn't get the shot yet.

Mark, a lot of it is acclimation. When I got back on my tri bike this year, I thought it was horrible. My coach told me to give it some time. I did two more rides and now it's very comfortable. I did have a retul fit. It is a different saddle position in aero. I changed my saddle to ISM Adamo Race and I love it.

Gabe, you really need a couple of days off!

Added two rides - 60 min recovery and 45 min tempo = HR150.

I took everyone's advice and realized I am 'back-of-the-saddle' rider. much more comfortable in neck shoulders and down there.

NOTED I change it up a little for relief.

overall I am super excited to get on the road - I 'feel' so much more powerful while riding on the trainer compared to my road bike - I have a 90 min Friday and 150 min Saturday - we'll see! excited!

Gabe - I am training for the Beach to Battleship, [B2B] 70.3 in October. Yes I agree my workouts look structured - a lot more than they did last year for the same race!!

Consistency certainly pays off - pun intended :-)

PS - take a day or five off ;-)

Meant what type of bike are you riding? Frame size, saddle, pedals, etc. all impact fit.

Ah hah! I am riding a stock Felt S32 size 56. pedals are shimano 105. Already by sitting back on saddle I feel better on the trainer and today I went for a 1:40 ride - felt great! neck was sore at end but this is due to looking down on trainer while up on road.

quick 30min ride yesterday up and down straight hwy to get used to road riding new bike.
Today went for a 30 miles ride - what an awesome machine! my legs are spinning effortlessly and I feel like i'm flying! I did notice the change from carbon to Alu means more bumps and a skippy ride but I'll get used to that in time. Really pleased and cant wait for more rides with GPS to compare against Strava!

Jackie, yesterday was a crazy day with back to school for my girls and then non-stop meetings, so a day off for me :-)

Mark H, the B2B sounds like a fun race.  Have you or anyone else here done it before?

Mitch, have you tried the Hoka's before? I'm intrigued by their size and additional level of cushioning

Today a good 17 mile run (longest run this year and fortunately no more ITB pain)

Gabe - yes I did the race last year - it was my first 70.3 and I loved every minute of it. This race always ranks high in the top tens and I can see why, especially as its non-ironman. Its a downhill swim and flat bike/run course. the crowds are super welcoming and supportive. its also 2hrs from my home :-)

Jackie was hoping to attend this year but sold out hours before.

Mark.

I put in about 300 miles on my Hokas and have very mixed emotions about them. I found them extremely comfortable - at times. There's something about the toe box on those shoes that created enormous callouses on my big toes and discomfort. I also was dx'd with a heel spur while running in them so I have a bit of an issue with the shoe (even though there's no reason to believe that they contributed to the spur). They were great for runs of 8-10 miles, but longer than that caused "me" problems - i know that the shoes are geared for exactly the opposite outcome.

One thing I can validate is that when I wore them during a HIM it was like literally running on sponges after dumping water on yourself. The squishing sound was maddening and they never dried out one bit.

I ultimately got the same pair of shoes I currently have (brooks Ravenna). I run with a superfoot blue insole and the shoe guy thought I should transition to the new pair of shoes and try it without the insole before moving to a lower drop shoe. I'll run about 200 miles in the new ravennas and then think about getting a different style to work into a rotation.

Joe - check out the Altra's. The Hokas have a narrow toe box that cramps the toes. The Altra's have a wide toe box that allows the hoes to splay naturally.
