My friends and family all want me to enter this Pho eating contest as they have all seen how much I can consume.  It's two pounds of rice noodles, two pounds of sliced beef in a giant bowl of soup.  If you can eat it all in one hour, you get the $22 bowl of pho free and a photo up on the wall of the restaurant.  There are no women that have been able to do it and plenty have failed...including some of my male young cousins.  I told them MAYBE I will try after my marathon...they are anxiously waiting for me.

Good luck Sunday!  You are going to do awesome, your training has been great!

a buck or two from a few of us and it looks like you might have yourself a sponsor for this event!  i'm in.

Hi:

Ashort and Jeepguy:

Thanks for your advice.  The problem is that I really love triathlon and I actually really really really want to be a TNT Mentor.  The problem is that I get REALLY EXCITED and that excitement sort of overshadows everything.  Then I cannot concentrate at work and it sort of consumes me.  Plus last year I had to do a lot of press and that actually did really stress me out.  No more press!!!!!!!!  They even wanted me on Dr. Oz - I said "no."

Anyway, I really wanted to mentor a small group of people. I was really excited (am excited) but at the same time am trying to control my excitement - lest it get out of hand. It is like a spark that builds during the season to the point of a raging fire by the time of triathlon - and then I think I begin to feel anxious it is so much.

Anyway, I also really want to finish my personal training certificate so that I can make money on the side, but don't know if I can do both.  Hm.. I also LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE being at the gym and with tri training I miss a good deal of gymminess.

(and Jeepguy, after work I like to come home and crash - ack! Nothing after work please!)  :-)  I'm a 5 a.m.-er.

:-) I also struggle biking solo since one year some guys tried to attack me when I was slowing down for a stoplight/turn.  They poured alcohol all over me (I know I discussed this on another thread and they gave some advice for safety) and threatened to..you know.  So after that, despite safety precautions I really do not like biking solo unless it is early morning or afternoon around and around the local university.  (I know I know.)

:-) Thanks for the encouragement. I just don't know.

I hope you dudes have great seasons.

Be careful if you're ever riding in Louisville.  Steve Woeste is really pissed at 'us'
The following was in the Louisville paper this morning.

Tax this ‘hobby'

Roads cost money to build. Yet all the bicyclists think they are “entitled” to all roads without having to pay for any building or maintenance of those roads. The average car, all by itself, contributes thousands of dollars in taxes every year that are used to build and maintain those roads — while bicycles pay nothing. Yet bicyclists want one-third of every road set aside for their exclusive use — and they don't have to pay anything for it. What a deal for them. What a bad deal for everybody else with a different hobbyAnd don't try to tell me bicycle riding is anything but a hobby . I don't see any bicycles during the six months of the year it is cold, or the days it is raining. Definitely not a necessity, definitely not the only way to get around. Don't tell me it is a solution to congestion, because the bicyclists return to their cars all winter. I can go on and on.

The solution is easy. Collect a big bicycle tax, and set that money aside to pay to add the extra three feet to the roads that bicyclists are “entitled” to. The more bicycles, the more bicycle roads.

Now, if you really do think the government should pay for my hobbies , I'll take you up on that offer. I'm nearly out of basket weaving supplies, I need more bird seed, I need a gym closer to my house, I just can't live without …

A restaurant, Spinners, near my house has a burger the size of a hubcap. If you can finish it, it is free, under an hour you get your picture on the wall. I think the record is 16 minutes. My wife told me she would divorce me if I tired. Laughing

I wonder how he reaches the conclusion that each car contributes thousands of dollars in taxes for the roads each year.

Hey everyone.  Haven't been on the boards much this week.  I want to say thanks so much for all the support and prayers.  It has been so appreciated.  It has been a very hard week, but we are ending it in "ok" status.  Connor is home and seems to be doing "ok".  He is still monitored 24/7...poor guy can not do anything without one of us right next to him (he is weak and "wobbly" & a fall would be devastating).  But being shadowed is a small price to pay given all that he has gone through this week.  There are still quite a lot of unknowns, but given he suffered a "major brain trauma" we are lucky.  We remain positive, and look forward to a good recovery.

This group is amazing! I can not tell you how much the support has meant!  You guys are awesome!
Hope you all have a good weekend,  Linda

Connor had a major brain trauma? What happened? I can pray to.  (Someone else can answer - I haven't been on boards either.  I have been totally MIA.)

Thanks.

dalessit - 2009-10-23 9:01 AM So I feel kind of bad.

I was just asked to be one of the judges in a baking contest in my office.  I used the excuse, that I was running a marathon on Sunday to get out of it.

Does that make me a bad person?

Of course not. Just not really smart. Heck when you can judge a baking contest or run a marathon. Ummm. Then again you might have something heave during the race. and good luck in the race.

Perhaps this guy doesn't realize that automobiles also do 99% of the wear and tear on roads and should pay for the majority of them. THe other thing is that where are all our tax dollars going. I suspect some of them are going to transportation needs.

Hi all - I hope everyone has a great weekend.  I'm super happy/relieved to hear that Connor is home and on the road to recovery.

I just finished an awesome speed workout.  My last big, long speed workout before tapering.  I averaged a 3:49 pace for each of 10-800s.  It was pretty tough but it was within several seconds of each 800 throughout the 10 so I was pleased.  Best of all I was able to run on the open road (well in a park) but spared the boredom and lower leg pain of the track!

Nice job Sam! That has got to feel good heading into your upcoming marathon.

Tony--best of luck this weekend, although given all of your training I am sure you don't need it.  Stay tough, especially during that last 10K.

Roni--I am not sure what to say to you with a potential double header...buy Bengay?

Heading to our house up north tomorrow.....predicting 5" of snow tonight and the a rain and snow mix for Saturday and Sunday. Ugh.

Excellent job, Sam, it must feel great!  I haven't been given 10x yet, 8 is plenty!  omg, nice that you could do it on the open road!  You are going to rock that marathon
