SSMinnow - 2010-09-29 5:27 AM Hey boys and girls......anyone out there considering doing a little racing this weekend? talk us through your plan!

For those of us non racers, what ONE non-SBR thing are you planning to do in the off-season?

No racing - going out to dinner Friday night to celebrate our anniversary.  Then packing the kids to grandma's on Sat after my son's baseball game for the weekend.

Uum - I have 2 marathons this winter - Jan and Mar plus my coach told me I'm a triathlete so I can't bag the bike and swim.  Yell  So I don't think I have time for any non-SBR things.  LOL  If I think real hard maybe I could go w/ the ongoing declutter my house.  Of course, it would help if the hubby stopped by bikes.  ;-)

I am! This one I get to race, it says so in my training plan! Problem is, I've never run a 15k before, so I have no idea how to pace it. I'll check McMillan - any other tips? Thanks!

Is this a lead up to a bigger race? given your running strength, I am tempted to say like a 10K.

Yes, my training plan for my November marathon calls for a 15k or half marathon race this weekend. I think it will be a fun distance!

Ok, I asked this question because I was racking my brain on what I could be workig on over the off season.  I realized sitting around the last three weeks, I am so single minded, it's scary.  I really am not the least bit interested in yoga, or strength (although I am told I will be doing some) and I hate all winter sports.....hmmmm, what does that leave???   Focus outside of SBR for me is going to be nutrition and getting back to cooking.  I've allowed myself to slide a bunch in the last three weeks, but that all changes come October 1st. Ulterior motive is also to get the man on a healthier track, but don't tell him that!!

Hi all! Sitting at the airport waiting to leave paradise. Good luck, Julia! Sounds like a really fun distance. So far, my off season has been fun with this trip as well s my excursion to Long Beach. One thing that I have been doing sort of non-sbr related is the core exercises in the P90X program. They are hard, but have gotten a bit easier the more I do it...especially the various push ups and plank positions! And I think the declutter project should also be a focus for me, too. No buying without selling. Tracy, I was thinking maybe a 10k would give you just as good info on your current run fitness/paces etc. And be a little less of a stress on your body. I am looking for one...I don't think there is much recovery involved but I would wait at least 6-8 weeks post Augusta to do it! Crazy girl.

I am running the Freedoms Run in WV with one of my teens. This is the race's second yr.  It will be WV's largest race with about 3000 people running a marathon, 1/2 mary, 10K, 5K or kids run. My current marathon training plan calls for a race pace 20 miler this weekend so I may run Saturday's 10K after logging a 13 mile run first....  my kid doesn't want to do it alone.... And they have a German Octoberfest with BEER and free beer mugs afterwards : )  Too bad I don't like beer.

Curious - what's the best wetsuit soap to use?   After my last tri, I just cleaned my wetsuit with water, no soap or anything.  However, the dirt from the asphalt and the markings of my number still remains.  I think they will come off with soap easier.

Plus - damn me and my nails - I ripped the surface of my wetsuit. It's so tiny, but it's annoying to know it's there.  what's the best glue for the rubber to glue together? it didn't go through the neoprene, so it's more of a surface scratch.

Thanks!!

Not sure about a specific wetsuit soap. I have just used a mild hand soap for mine on occasion. For repair the easiest repair is contact cement. Just hold open the tear slightly put on the CM and hold until dry a few minute should do it.  Stick the pieces back together and voila no more tear.

After a diving vacation we wash our wetsuits with wetsuit soap! We get it at local dive shops, but tri shops might sell some too. You just put some soap in the tub, add water, make bubbles, and swish the suits around in there and then rinse thoroughly. I usually just rinse my tri wetsuit in the shower -- by the time I think to wash it, it's usually dry and I am too lazy.

Hey DJ--I use Profile Design Wetsuit shampoo. Unlike the lazy bones that dives , I actually wash mine every time after I OWS....put it in our laundry tub, swish it around and hang it up to dry.  Super ez and then it smells totally clean for the next time.

Thanks - I'm assuming that it won't cause issues if I try to scrub it? The neoprene, not the outer rubber part.  I'm kind of anal, so I want to try to get some of that "da-m-n spot! OUT Spot!" stuff out.   I washed/rinsed it a few hours after my OWS.

On another note - a teenager's body was found at Lake Mead the day after my Triathlon. He disappeared the day before.  Kind of scary. Good thing I had no idea or I'll be freaking out that's a dead body floating around. LOL!

Wish I can join you guys for the REV3, but I'm not financially capable. :-(  But I'm SO looking forward in seeing some of you for the RnR Las Vegas!

Laughing  I'm still laughing - you mean you are not supposed to leave it balled up in the bottom of your tri bag until next race!  I love pulling mine out a few months later and seeing all the crap still stuck to it.

Ha ha ha, Sam, I'm with you.  Still picking up Augusta grass off my bathroom floor.  As far as holes in the suit I use Super Glue. Just make sure it is completely dry before the next wearing.

I love this article!
Fasy...that's my speed 100% of the time.  Never take it slow, but always afraid to push it too hard.
Swim bargains - I almost spit out my cereal when I read that.  I do that at every workout.   Not with distance, but with pace.

Try not to suck .. I may use that next weekend

All 150 yards of it. I think its funny that its 137m....We swim here in 25 or 50 m pools...Not 137 m. I guess its an old pool and may have been built before we adopted metric.

You mean all your pools aren't 137m?  I swear I've seen plans on canuckswims.com that called for 5 x 137 on 2:20 etc.  I guess the real question is whether or not this pool is big enough for Rob to get lost in it.

Thanks for standing up for me Trev.(post padder) Actually it was a much smaller pool. I was doing laps in a round pool and couldn't find the end to turn around. I swam for two days until my mother realized I was not there for supper the second day. She came out into the back yard and flipped the pool over and I was saved. Our pools in the east are 117.375 m if you swim them straight but whats the fun in that. How can you possibly get lost swimming straight? Oh wait!!!!  I do know the answer to that question.  Having said that I am going for a ..... run.
