I have been lamenting about two upcoming races. I wasn't expecting a PR in the half marathon, but was planning one for the 10K which is almost an annual event for me. I had given myself from the HIM to mid November to gain more speed, but given my recent ITB issues, I haven't been able to do any speedwork and been running very little. The half may very well be in jeopordy anyway if the leg doesn't heal up in two weeks, but someone tell me how you go out and just have fun in a race you have PR'ed every year you've done it. ![]() wait a second here. just looking at the website. this ain't no 1/2 marathon. its a 1/2 barrell!! hahahahaha i love it. and your problem is solved. the race starts at 11:30 but the beer tent opens at 11. see how many you can pound in a half hour. that'll slow you down. ok suzy. you have this wonderful talent! use your imagination here. steve's idea about running with the hubby is great. get him a santa outfit. you can be the elf, you're already the right size. go buy a bunch of boxes of candy canes and hand them out along the route as you run. Its Christmas time!!! HAVE FUN!!!!! |

There was 62 of us doing the full Mary. It did get a little lonely at times, but no worries about maneuvering around other runners. LOL Just a heads up guys... You would need a horse carriage and buggy to get out there ![]() Just playing! That is a great area, and would be a great race for anyone! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Question for the group. How do you warm up the morning of your marathon? Last year when I did my first I stretched a bit and stood there trying to stay relaxed. But after my 10m race a few weeks ago, I discovered the beauty of a good warmup. So it makes me wonder about OBX. But I don't want to run 3m before my marathon. Any thoughts? |

Hoping to get at least a 4 mile run in tonight and maybe break out the rollers for the bike. I have to travel most of next week, so trying to get in what I can now. |

So it makes me wonder about OBX. But I don't want to run 3m before my marathon. Any thoughts? Light stretching in the hotel and then I go outside for a very ez 5 mins, do all my warm-up excercises--2 sets of grapevine, side shuffle, backwards running, and then another ez 5mins to make sure there isn't anything I need to stretch out before I head to the race. Only warm-up on site is the multiple walks I take to the bathrooms. My excitement this morning was a 20 min off season TT. I never really know how to judge these things, especially in comparison to the hour long ones you do during the season. Who can give me some insite? |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() tahrens - 2009-10-27 9:46 AM Hi Chris, glad to hear you are ready to get back in the saddle. I made the mistake of showing Jorge's winter plan to my husband and now he wants a power tap so he can follow it. But to be honest he wants a power tap and has found a million reasons why he needs one. He and my daughter are building a bike together - this is going to be interesting. He found the frame with a few parts included on e-Bay and now the interesting part comes in. Last night he found a pair of $400 HED Jet 50 race wheels and was trying to convience me that we needed to buy these for my TT bike, then move the wheels from my TT to my road bike and give my daughter my wheels from my road bike. I love the logic of men! Makes perfect sense to me. By the way how did Doug's race go the other weekend? |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() kt65 - 2009-10-27 10:07 AM Good morning everyone. Chris, it sounds like your batteries are recharged and your mind and body are ready to go. Tracy, the power tap sounds like a great training tool, will you both get one??? I had a good running weekend...I actually pr'ed my half marathon time on my sunday long run! I have my alert to drink water every 15 minutes and at 1:45, I looked down and I was at 13.11 miles! The sad part is that I lost my belly button piercing, I think because of my annoying fuel belt. I have that thing so tight, and still it starts to twist and I have to constantly re-position it! It was my favorite piercing, so that is a bummer. I guess I will wait until after the marathon to put a new one in. This coming weekend is my first 20 miler. Yikes! Have a good week, all! ![]() You're doing amazing Kim. It wasn't that long ago that you were running at my speed. Now all I would see is your dust. |

I always thought the TINY gold ball in the nose (think India styles) was cool, but how do you pick you nose with that in? or blow snot rockets without having a long string attached after arrgh Jeremy beat me to it. Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey Samanatha I hear you about the warm up but I would say do the 2/3 K warm up. Give yourself lots of time after the warm though. I didn't do a mrathon but on my last 5K race I ran 4K warm up to get to the race and had about a half hour race for the start but I ended up having one of the easiest and best races I have ever done. The half hour in between was a little long but I quickly warmed up again once we started. I will ceratinly be doing warm up runs before all my races now. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Rob - thanks for asking, I always love an opportunity to brag on my sweety. He did great and I am super proud. I think the olympic distance is where he does best. Here are his splits: 16/76 in his age group Overall time of 2:56 1.5K swim = 34:12 choppy water T1 = 2:48 30mile bike = 1:24 T2 = 1:21 10K run = 53:42 hilly Suzy - I like Steve's idea of being a pace runner. That sounds perfect. Brand new look on a familiar race and you would be doing a great service to other runners. Sam - interesting question about the marathon warm up. There was an article in last months Runner's World magazine about warm ups and distances. For the marathon it basically said the same thing as Suzy with about a 5 minute warm up with good stretching but not much else. Logic being the farther the distance the less the warm up b/c the first few miles of the race will be your warm up. If you need your legs to fire fast and hard then you need a longer warmup so they are ready to go. This weekend - other than Halloween......going to do a little cold open water swimming. I got a pair of neoprene booties but in the pool they just roll down to my ankles and fill with water. I am hoping the legs of my wetsuit will cover them, otherwise I might have to tape them. Darn long legs of mine!!!!!! |

Plenty of Beer. 8pm I had hoped to run prior but have a problem. My right achilles is been hurting since a softball double header on Oct 16. It was feeling good Sunday and Monday so I ran 3 miles Monday night and it's hurting again now. I've NEVER had an achilles problem. Is there anything I can do? Or do I just have to wait? |
