d00d, it's be worth it to camp out in the place that the tacks were thrown, to see if they did it again... A S S WHOOPAGE. Or, scope em out with video and call in air support, ala IED planters in Iraq/Afghanistan... GRRR.

Man I was thinking the same thing. To quote Vincent from Pulp Fiction, "it would be worth them doing it so I could catch them doing it." Taking away a year's worth of someone else's hard work and dedication so they can get their lazy butt to Golden Corral five minutes faster or to KFC for another Double Down sandwich.

IMO, they have no idea what it takes to get there...it's probably unfathomable to them how much of a sacrifice we make to toe the line...

with the exception of riding with heavy, thick, sludge filled tubes, i don't really see a way around that. you get tacked, or you don't. i'll definitely be on the lookout for ppl changing flats, though.

I have to admit, I feel completely and totally unprepared. I've done all the training (except swims, ive missed a lot) but have done the training and just don't physically feel like an Ironman. Hope this confidence changes after a hard month of july training. Anyone else just feel like what your doing isn't enough?

Hmmm.....

I feel underprepared for the bike and the run is going to be a sufferfest no matter what I do at this point.

Tired is a common occurance and motivation fluctuates pretty dramatically.

The next several weeks of ridiculous volume definitely have me concerned.

Anybody else feel worn out on your rest days?  For some reason, on rest days or low volume days I feel completely worn out, as in no energy...at all.  I know this is probably normal, following the build and recover methodology, but it is very noticable for me right now.  I'm fine on heavy days, tired, but in a good way.  On these easy days, I feel like a slug, I could easily take a 3 hour nap right now.

I think I'm more worried about the taper than the next few heavy weeks.  But the good news is that when I feel strong, I feel very strong.

On rest days I could eat a horse.  Is that normal?  Its  like I am trying to catch up on the food my body thinks is missing.  I don't feel like an Ironman, but I feel 10 times stronger than I did 3 months ago, (give you and idea how bad I was 3 months ago).

From your logs:

June's totals:

Run:18h 42m 16s  - 95.92 Mi
Swim:16h 02m 25s  - 42589.4 M

60 hours is really strong.  Keep it up and you will be ready for Lou.

I feel ready for the things I can control.  I feel positive about my swim and run goals.  I'm not worried about the bike, but I've set a pretty heavy goal and may have to adjust.  I want to be off the bike in 5 hours.  I don't think 5:30 will be a problem, so I want to be in the 5 - 5:30 range, but as close as 5 as I can get; 5 hours will remain my focus throughout July though.  I'm not sure I'm ready for the weather, but I can not control that and remain positive.

Rest days are definitely downers and lately I've noticed a slight lack of motivation to start my workouts, but as soon as I'm out there everything is great.

20 minute run tonight Cool

I am right there with almost everyone else  - not feeling very well prepared (except the swim).  I have yet to ride 100 miles.  The longest I've gone has been 90 and that only had a few rollers, but no hills.  I feel I can still get there with the bike, but the run is another story.  I have four total 6+ hour rides in the next five weeks with the longest going 6:45.

Missing the first 3 weeks really killed my run prep.  Speaking of the run, how is everyone feeling in regards to distance and training in this heat most of us have having?  The most I can muster up is about 12+.  My two longer runs (10+) have been in 95+ degree temps.  My plan is to do my long runs in the morning to get my legs read for the mileage even if the heat isn't there.

The other thing I figured out is that I need more calories.  I have only been averaging around 255 per hour.  That worked great for my HIM, but am beginning to realize it is going to be too light for the IM distance.  I'm going up to 300-350 this Sunday.  If that works, I'm going up to 400, then maybe up to 450.

Only missed 1 swim workout this month.  PR month for bike miles.  Close to PR miles for run and a strong swim month.

Next month if I hit all my training I should go over 700, 125 and 45K.  All PR's.  Also hoping for a 120+ bike ride to to make sure.

Anyone else have goals.

This weekend is the beginning of my big bike rides!  We're still 2 months out. This should be the big month for training, so don't stress about it. Before now, consistency is most important.

Any one going to be in L'ville next weekend? I'm coming to do the course. Yay!

Don't worry so much about the long runs.  Sure, in a perfect world you would be on track, but it is what it is.   Running is the hardest volume to build without an injury, so just take it nice and easy.  Show up on race day with the best run conditioning you can without an injury.  If you come off the bike with enough left in you, then you'll run the marathon just fine.

I don't know your size, but here is a good starting point for me sized (5'11" - 155 lbs.):

1 x 24 ounce bottle with 250 calories of sports drink per hour

50-100 calories from gel, cliff bar, crackers, etc. per hour

Plus as much water as I need per hour.

This gives me plenty of calories normally, but if I need more I just take another gel.  Also, I like to take in some of my liquid as plain water.  This allows me to drink as much as I need with out worrying about taking in to many calories.

On the run I take a gel about every 25 minutes.  I know that seems like a lot of gels, but it only comes out to about 220 cals/hour.

If I feel like things aren't going down smooth I stop the intake and slow down.

Doug has it about right.

I'm 5'9" and weigh in at 155-160lbs.

On long rides, I take a bottle of Perpetuem and a flask of Hammer Gel.

The Perpetuem gives me about 270 calories (per hour) and I supplement that with a shot of gel every hour. The gel gives me 90 extra calories. I have found that on long rides, this is perfect and I don't need to add anything else.

I also consume close to 1 water bottle per hour, sipping close to every 5 minutes. Sipping vs. gulping tons of water works better in that you don't get a full stomach and the water can get absorbed quicker. I've done several long rides in hot weather and have not come off the bike dehydrated.

For runs, I don't take in any nutrition other than a sports drink and maybe one shot per hour. I find that if I add too many calories, then I start to experience GI distress. 150-200 calories per hour are plenty (for me) on the run.

BTW, taking too many calories in may cause overnutrition and GI distress.

Happy training!

Wow, I'm beat! I have been doing some research on overtraining, apparently some signs are extreme muscle fatigue, not able to raise heart rate before muscle failure, moodiness. If anyone is experiencing this (like we all don't feel this way)be very careful and take a few reat days to recover and rest. Congratulations to everyone for sacrificing so much for this honor of becoming and Ironman.

I was shocked to hear about the tacking last year, looks like I will be adding some weight to my tires with sealent to be safe. Unbelievable that people would do that , everyone be careful out there.

Only eight and a half weeks, stay focused!

Run:13h 53m 28s  - 90.42 Mi

I did what I need to do last  month and other than not getting alot of Hot days to train in I feel good.

I just notice that as of 6/30 I have almost the exact same bike milage as all of last year (2300miles).  More swim miles and only about 100 less run miles with 6 months to go this year.

More importantly I have driven my car around 1200 miles this year.

i am going to my lake house this weekend for the 4th and decided that since on the 4th I'm scheduled for a 1600 Threshold swim, 2:30 Bike 55 min run brick....

I am going to have the first ever 4th of July Triathlon, I doubt that any one there will want to join me but I will sure try to ask some of them to join in any of the 3 events. There's a marine that will be there and I hope that I can talk him in to trying it with me. If not hopefully some of them will attempt to try to take me down... hahah

should be interesting day if nothing else

Run:13h 32m 44s  - 81.2 Mi
Swim:6h 48m 07s  - 23840.77 Yd

I wanted to be higher on the bike and over 100 on the run, but my PF has flared up, so I'll have to be satisfied with what I've  got and do better in July.  I'm not getting enough sleep and it is killing me.
