Sorry i have not been around much, My daughter was sick Wed/Thurs, i brought her to work since I was on the road all day Thursday, so she rode shotgun while i did appointments. Then i got a Fever Thursday into Yesterday, to which my wife now has it since yesterday afternoon. We got 8" of snow, and my 15k road race was postponed till next week.

Two weekends in a row that i have had a fever, i probably never got rid of the first one. Bummer, cause i start the week out strong and then fizzle.

I have not been on my bike in two weeks, and that is kinda annoying me.

I will attempt my 11 mile run today and see how i feel, and hope to stay healthy through this week.

i am pretty good at the bike maintenance thing. I always say that i missed my calling, i shoulda been a mechanical engineer, i love to build things and see how they work.

i build and maintain all my bikes, they are actually pretty simple. Cleaning the chain is something you should do ONCE A WEEK, especially at the miles we ride.  I use a lube called Rock N Roll, it works really well and you do not get the chain rub mark on your leg from it.  Check your LBS for it, it works well and better than oil.

1:20 run as soon as the sun shows it's little rays.  What does everyone else have on tap?

Rudy, how often do you oil your chain?  Nothing bugs me more then coming up on someone (or someone coming up on me) with the squeak squeak squeak of a dry chain.  Makes me want to ride with oil and stop those people and put some on their chain.  lol  It is worse going up Mt Lemmon cause only the really strong bikers past fast so you hear it forever.  I've been known to break out the music just due to this.

I never OIL my chain, one of the problems with common oil is they attract dirt and debris like a magnet. I use a chain specific lubricant that goes on wet and dries, then you wipe the residue off till the rag is no longer taking residue off the chain.  The important parts are inside the pins and links, the outside really should be clean to touch.  I do this weekly, usually after my Saturday long ride. I can go longer between lubrication's when i do a lot of trainer miles, since you are picking up no road grime and such.

I'd tell you to rest up and get better instead of going on your run but that'd be a tiny bit hypocritical coming from me. Hope you get better soon.

yeah, that is why I had oil in italics, couldn't come up with a better word...like say lubricant.  lol  Words are not my strong point.  I am on a weekly schedule as well, was curious if that was a good schedule or not.  Seems like it is based on the chain.  I honestly don't know what I use, but it is something my bike mechanic recommends.  It's not something you can buy in most stores but it seems to do a pretty good job.

Fred D - 2012-01-21 8:13 PM Please check out the thread in ironman talk. There is a wonderful post about ironman from littlecat. I loved it, let me know your thoughts?

Posted.

It took me a little to compose, that was a bit emotional for me.

James- well said- and THANK YOU! for your service to our country.

When I was in Louisville back in August of '11, I saw a t-shirt that read-

"If You Have to Ask Why? You will never understand."

Fred- I was sorry to read about Joe Paterno this morning. (I believe he really passed away this time) I remember talking to you about him and the Penn state program at Madison before the scandal broke and you truly seamed to have a lot of respect and admiration for the man. All my condolences. James- welcome to our mentor group. I have enjoyed reading your contributions to BT over the years and look forward to seeing what you have to add here.

Good morning! Almost lunch now.  Back from my run with my running buddy.  We've been running together for about 5 years and we have a great time when we run - she even said it - we chat so much and we kind of forget we're running! Out for just less than 1.5 hours.  Decent weather for this time of the year.

Planning to swim later this afternoon.  It's a short window so i have get organized and be ready to head out the door to make it on time.  and then i'll have made it a perfect week and hit all of my workouts!! Woot!

Re: motivation thread - such an interesting approach to looking at the sport.  Someone who terms what we do as 'trauma' probably isn't as motivated by the positives of the sport as the rest of us.  Really shines a light on how much attitude affects so many parts one' life.  Glad to hear alot of people really question the language and provide their perspective.

5 mile run with 4 hill repeats in the books this morning. Feeling a bit under the weather, but no fever, thankfully. Now an afternoon of rest and relaxation. Have a great Sunday, everyone!

The problem with having your training done super early in the morning is it leaves no excuses left for not doing the yard work.  After a few hours of digging, trimming, and cleaning you realize that being a triathlete really doesn't make you as in good a shape as you think.  lol

Rode 2 hours today with some climbing. Been a while since I've biked on tired legs from yesterdays run, had very little power. Glad its over and now for 2 football games. . As for that thread, maybe not technically a troll, but clearly written to get a rise. I like how BTers responded, but at least as of today I am in a place where I could give a rat's behind what some anonymous person on the interwebs thinks about me or my motivations (relating only to HIM distance)

10 ish mile run planned today but thinking about moving my rest day to today instead of tomorrow.  Nastly little thing going on in my head and chest.

Happy training folks!

If in doubt rest. Your big races are not that close, so listen to your body.

x2. I was pretty spent this morning heading out for a 4 hour ride/20min run. I knew I didn't have the legs to push the bike the way I normally do because of a big run yesterday, but that's ok and the point of the training. Sometimes you just need to get it done. So I did, it was slow, but it was done.
