Awe, TJ, we can still be friends right? put aside our differences? I don't know you, and I have mad love for the Avs.... Not sure I'm going to be as welcoming a my pod mates! It's going to take a lot more to win me over than a pretty smile and / or a sense of humor. I'm going to extend (ever so cautiously) an olive branch though. My name is Chad. It's nice (sort of) to meet you AV HATER. Yeah, I hear drunken jailbirds go a long way with you. Young, Hot drunken jailbirds I'm not even fussy about the young part ... I had a one-night stand with a much older drunken jailbird that turned into a seven-year relationship requiring legal dissolution at the end. And we couldn't even agree on whether it was six years or seven. By the end of this relationship, I kicked him out of our place and moved in with his mother AND KEPT THE DOG. Oh, burn! You batch. Mom and dog? In my limited experience ... those things are important to men. I can't help it if both of them loved me more than him Most amazing dog ever. I left him with her when I moved to Los Angeles, and he wound up being her service dog after she was mostly wheelchair-bound to the end of his days. Seriously, people, I'm disappointed in you. Why are we sitting around talking about hot guys and dogs when I have to run a race in the snow tomorrow! Sheesh...get your priorities straight. My priorities ARE straight. I skimmed your post and all I actually saw was "hot dog."
Not that there actually is a hot dog in your post. |

I know I said I wanted to be in on this next mentor round, I'm hoping I didn't get ejected for being MIA in January. can please still be a part of the pod? I've really ratcheted up the training, signed up for a "challenging" course half marathon (read: BIG HILLS) in 7 weeks, and am contemplating a fall marathon. So, since I've been away, I might have lost my mind!
I'll scroll through the posts, but I hope everyone else's 2013 is off to a great start!! Hey you! Welcome back!! I think the Manatee rule is "once a Manatee, always a Manatee." BIG HILLS do not sound like fun! Have you been doing lots of hill workouts? You know, had you been here and asked if you should do it, we would have said "DO EEEET!", right? I do know that! I think it was that manatee spirit that conned me into pushing "register." And NOPE, I have not been hill training. I think I should probably start!! Although there's no shame in walking up it if it comes to that...which it likely will! I HEAR you, sister. I'm in full-on taper madness (it took about, um, 12 hours into taper to set in) and, like when I have high fevers, am in serious danger of signing up for inappropriate races in cold places ...
OH HEY, DID ANYONE NOTICE THEY BROUGHT IRONMAN JAPAN BACK????? |

Extreme Veteran 536 | Subject: RE: Mad Manatee Mentors, Part 2! CLOSED So I'll do a little introduction, since I'm late to the party (how rude! Or fashionable?) and there's plenty of people who don't know who I am. My name is Brie, I live in Massachusetts with my hubby and two kitties. I've been a BT member for a year and a manatee for a little less. This will be my second tri season, and I think I've had a good start and my training and fitness is really picking up, especially with the bike. My goal is to do an Oly this summer - yes, the same one that I wussed out on last year. My swim is already feeling stronger and I think with some more endurance-focused work once it's lake season I will be go to go. I'm also contemplating a fall marathon - I do one every 2 years, once the memory of the arduous training and painful race fades from memory, leaving just the feeling of awesomeness that running 26.2 gives you - but haven't committed to anything. If the group I run with up here does Newport, RI, I think I'm in. I'm also focused on losing weight/toning up. It's not so much the number I care about but the firmness. Right now - too much mush. I've been doing weight watchers since Jan. 3 and I've lost 9 pounds so far!! I think I'm hitting a plateau - I'm at my body's happy/effortless weight - so I'm trying to push myself harder with exercise to beat that. I'm a lawyer by day, but I really do not enjoy it, so I'm looking for something new and fun. It makes it very hard to stay focused on what I need to get done 9-5, which was a big reason I weaned myself off daily BT/Manatee activities. But, screw it, you guys are awesome and as I start ramping up my off-season training I could use some support, encouragement and of course, entertainment (Yanti can handle that on her own, honestly, but everyone else, feel free to pitch in)! |

Pennsylvania | Subject: RE: Mad Manatee Mentors, Part 2! CLOSED OK, the mostly official decision on my Sunday race/training is (drum roll, please): do a mile warm-up around the track (the race is at a local college and the track very, very close to where the race begins), do the 5K at a medium-ish pace and return to the track for a mile cool-down, brilliant! I want to make sure they don't run out of chicken corn noodle soup (which is not quite as motivating as Irish coffee but still mighty good) before I finish my mileage, hence breaking it up to before and after. Dressing warm will be key as well. High of 29*F with 19mph winds. Oof. Snow showers Sat. night and flurries Sun. could make for icy/slippery conditions on the road, we shall see what Mother Nature brings, although I hope it does snow during the race. As Kirsten said, it is so pretty and peaceful running in snow. Hopefully 'pink girl' isn't there again to inadvertantly force me to run faster than I want to! |

CLOSED rrrunner - 2013-02-15 2:18 PM melbo55 - 2013-02-15 12:38 PM OK, the mostly official decision on my Sunday race/training is (drum roll, please): do a mile warm-up around the track (the race is at a local college and the track very, very close to where the race begins), do the 5K at a medium-ish pace and return to the track for a mile cool-down, brilliant! Sounds like a great plan! Hopefully the wind won't make things miserable. As for pink girl... well I just don't know what to say about that... Oh shoot, I missed this initially. Alright, it all sounds good. ESPECIALLY the mile warm-up on the track. Sorry if you have gone over this but why the medium pace for the 5K Any reason you aren't racing it? Wind and snow will separate the people who reeeaaaally want that soup. Let that be your motivator! |

February 16-17
When are you NOT in a Lolo Jones mood? The guy born Yvonne Buschbaum, the champion pole vaulter, is so freakin' hot. I know everyone makes such a big deal of it because he is so hot, but still. He is. Speaking of track, field, gender, hotness, and hockey ... HOW WAS IT??? I keep salivating for updates and you've been under the weather and busy and all that, but but but ... I've been very patient. True! Yvonne Buschbaum! Yeah, sorta feminine but ... in a hot way, no???
Ughhhhh hockey. It's what catapulted me to my absolute last straw. We were playing a college team, so it wasn't easy peasy. We didn't get creamed but we didn't win either. Unfortunately we were just a hodge-podge of ladies put together that had no experience playing with one-another so it took us some time to adjust. Once we started playing well (finally), the college girls got nasty. I got hit from behind and saw stars. So hard, in fact, my chin strap was pulled all the way up to my nose. Ouch. Mainly I was just starting to get sick and just didn't have my normal spark, ya know? Oh yeah, I also had a tire blowout on the freeway on the way over, baaaarely made it to the game on time.
Alright, that all sounds so Debbie Downer. I should add that I got to spend some FANTASTIC time with family and also went running along the river one day (gorgeous) and then the next day out at the wildlife reserve where we saw Coyotes and birds (swans even) and lots of other furry friends. Veeery cool, even though I was feeling like absolute sh*t. and look how muddy/snowy it was 1. hockey rules - you're a stud. Wish I knew how to play and am impressed by all who do. 2. you have yummy calves. 3. I like your shoes. SUBMIT! |

Ye-LLO!!!! Welcome back! |
