That can be a big cause of things like that, deeper wheels on windy days can be a bit sketchy. Tony: No deep wheels here....Reynolds private labels.....kind of wish I was riding the RU so it could have broken into a thousant little pieces and I could collect the insurance. Doug: Have a great trip....hope the hamstrings are better. Looking for an answer to REV3 when you return!! Tracy: Where's the birthday girl???? what'd ya get? |

I need to work things out with my coach. BTW: As of today I have passed all of my SBR training distances from last year. There were running miles before April of 09 that I did not enter, but that should balance out with my run-focused off season. |

Trevor-for realz, no stopping for the potty in a half! No fluids for 30-45 minutes beforehand and you will be good to go...do this on your long runs (at Suzy's suggestion) and you will see it really works. You should be well hydrated all of the time, no need for extra on race morning. |

You should be well hydrated all of the time, no need for extra on race morning. Do you guys ever pee during your marathons? I always seem to pee on long runs (14+ miles), and would like not to pee during my mary. Last year at Portland Abbe and I peed around mile 4, in a porta-potty. No line, but I'm sure we lost a minute. Having a coach talk early this week about everything, including hydration during the race (I have been SUPER thirsty on all of my long runs). But I would like very much not to pee during my race!! Hydration will be a process deserving special attention all week long for me. I try to be very mindful of good hydration for 2-3 days prior to a long run. (Really, I try to be mindful at all times, but can grow lazy or slack a bit when I don't have a long run around the corner.) |

By the way, at the Freedom's Run yesterday I saw a lot of minimalist and barefoot runners. Very interesting! The RD is a great guy and speaking to my tri club later this month. He offered free vibrant footware to all of the 400 kids in the kids race if the parents promised to visit the 4 local national parks. I paced my daughter through her 1st 10K and she was 1st in her AG. We had a great time in wild, wonderful, WV!! Linda |

I'm getting old. the bladder was getting too full. It was close to busting open. There wa no way I could hold it another hour. I did blow it a bit with the aid stations. I had a fuel belt ready to go, but elected not to take it. This whole just 'running' thing is new. I do think I overhydrate prior to my runs. Most of my longer runs so far, I've had to take a pitstop. When its a tri - you just go in the lake. Edited by TrevorC 2010-10-03 2:51 PM |

OK, this really made me laugh. (I'd say it made me pee my pants but that hits too close to home, ha ha!) Yeah, to me there is a sweet spot, as you say, of hydration w/o having to pee. I want to find it. I think I pee early on in most marathons, but only once and then I'm good to go. This is likely too much morning hydration, even though I hit the portas a few times pre-race. (Usually I go, then just get in line and go again!) But see, if I have to pee it will be early so it's not like "Pee your pants in the last mile if you're close to qualifying." Early on it's still anyone's game, right?! Oh dear. Now this is going to give me something to stress out about all week long. I'm already entering the tummy-flutter stage, and I've been so incredibly zen for so long it's freaking me out. |

Here's my two cents...hydrated very, very well the three days leading up to the race. Drink with breakfast to ensure your food digests well and then STOP. I see people drinking Gatorade like crazy right up until the gun goes off and never understand it if they've been hdyrating well all week. That doesn't mean drink water until you sprout either....that messes with your electrolytes. |

I know Abbe spoke with LL about this as well, and I plan to have my own chat with him about it too. It all sounds good. When I am upping my fluids (i.e. CONSCIOUSLY and CONSCIENTIOUSLY hydrating a bit more than usual), I add in some Nuun for some of my drinks each day. I figure those electrolytes won't hurt at all. I LOVE (and NEED!!! and want!!!!) my coffee, so I like to drink extra water on race-day with that because of the dieuretic (sp?) effect it can have. So there must be a fine balance with that as well.
