lesleyann - 2009-10-01 1:44 PM how does the whole volunteer thing work??? you get to pick a few choices of what you want to do? Can you get in the medical tents if you are a nurse?

At FL the volunteers are kind of unorgainzed.  If you are a nurse you most certainly can work the med tent (I was the doc there from 4pm til midnight in 2007)  Day before the race go over to themed tent and volunteer.  They will love you.  Try and sign up on line and go to the volunteer meeting if possible

I guess misery loves company, because it makes me feel so much better seeing others in the same place I am. Honestly, I train year round and can't stand to take days off. I look forward to my team's December training rides when we do 100 milers every Saturday of the month. But this thing has me ready for a break!! For the first time in a long time I am dreading my two long workouts this weekend.

As for the 8 hour ride. I agree with the others that seems a bit long. My training tops me out at 6 hours on the bike. But I have been doing those lengths for 2 months now. I also don't plan to be on the bike in FL more than 6 hours. Maybe your coach knows something we don't though.

I'll also admit that I made my plan myself after much research and comparing multiple plans. I did not have a coach. So who knows what differences there would have been if I'd gone the coach route.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE don't let the water be choppy on 11/07/09. That swim is the only real thing that scares me at this point.

I'm also hoping and praying for calm water at IMFL this year.

This will be a busy training weekend for a lot of us. Stay safe and have a great weekend.

T-SHIRTS:
Folks, ABSOLUTE LAST CHANCE...if you have not yet paid or mailed your check and told me that you mailed your check, you're about to get left out. We have to order it and I'm sending it to Jay on Friday when I get to DC for the Army 10-miler.  If I was rich, I could vouch for you if you said you wanted a t-shirt.  I've PM'd everyone, and the emails aren't in my outbox, so you've received it.  We can't hold out for a couple of folks if we want these made and mailed prior to race day.  That's all! For those who have paid, THANKS!

Will the volunteers undo the zipper in the back of your suit? I just got my Xterra Velocity++ and there is no pull string. I'm wondering if I need to rig something up or count on getting help. Thoughts anyone?Mahalo!

Just figured out my own question. The Velocity++ is made so all you have to do is flip the zipper up and it will peel right off. It also looks like they have wetsuit peelers too!

That's pretty cool. So you flip the zipper up and it retracts as you pull the suit off? My Zoot doesn't have anything so fancy. How do you like the Velocity? I was originally getting a Blue Seventy or Xterra but the Zoot just fit me like a glove. I liked the 2XU suits the store had but they were too rich for my blood this season.

Is anyone else using Tribike Transport? I just coughed up $300 to have my bike and gear bag shipped down.  Perhaps I will try and figure out a total cost of this IM and see how much it costs per mile over the entire race.  Any guesses?

Happy training, stay healthy, strong and focused! Taper is comin soon!

Ugh...big training day today and it was not one of my best. 100 mile bike followed by a 5 mile transition run. The wind was pretty tough today so I'll take heart from that.

Tomorrow is a 3 hour run followed by a 1 mile swim.

Be safe and train well this weekend!!

Does anyone know anything about wetsuit rentals?

I live in FL and have a swimming background so I have never worn one to race before, and don't plan to wear one again so don't want to spend a fortune on one.

Any info would be GREATLY appreciated.  This is my first FL Ironman...

Only one more workout today and the weekend is over! Yes! Rest day on Monday.

2.4 mile swim on Thursday, 8 run and travel on Friday, 102 bike (hilly course) followed by a 4 mile run on Saturday. Sunday- 3hour run completed. One more medium swim workout and I'm done for the day. Yipee.

Hubby told me this morning he thinks I'm ready for the IM. That just made my day! What would we do without our support crews?

had a couple of good runs this weekend and a solid bike and fine swim...but all I keep thinking is, please let it be cooler and less humid up north in a month!  still down 6# in fluid today on my run, and that's with 6 bottles of water and being totally hydrated leading up to it!  Not ready for the race yet, but I will be come Nov 7th!

Hope everyone had a successful training weekend.

bleh. had a crummy ride today - new bike fit needs to be tweaked for sure.  Did have a nice long run on Thurs. but today was crappy - one of the "what did I get myself into" kinda days....tomorrow is a brand new day.

heh...I sweated off 13# on a 90mile ride a few weeks ago.  frightening I know.  I took in 160 oz today.  I upped my sodium intake and its helped with the fluid shifts a LOT.  I could give you a dissertation on this.......

It can't possibly be this hot 11/7.......but I supposed you and I will be well prepared if it is.  We should go do IMChina.

DUDE - 6 hours on the trainer OMG. I need 4 a few weeks ago and was ready for a padded room.

This was recovery week for me, so I'm feeling great except the little things such as planter fasciitis and a pulled muscle in my neck
J

3 HUGE build weeks then 2 week taper before the dance – OMG.
