2323 -  pretty rad number!

I'm mentally preparing for the worst but hoping for the best, weather wise!!

New weather update as of this morning, 75 with variable clouds and thunderstorms, low of 42

1103.   I hope the weather guys have the temps right, but I could live without wind and t-storms

462. Just getting the number has my stomach in knots.

Not to mention wind gusts up to 22mph.  I am all for cold weather and don't mind A LITTLE rain but that forecast could suck a bit.  To be barreling down the hills of IMWI in a thunderstorm could be hairy and after being rained on and wet all day 42 degrees could cause some hypothermia issues.  I never bring layers but this time I might have to make an exception.  42 degrees with a real feel of 38 could get a bit nippy in just my tri-suit.  Guess that is motivation to finish faster before the temperature drops.  No one said it was easy!!!

It's about time the chatter kicked in this thread.  I was getting worried.

Has anyone ever used the myathletegps device that will provide constant real time course location for the athlete?  I am thinking of renting one for Madison since I really have little idea what my pacing will be.

Any thoughts?  Anything negative that I may be missing?

It will change 100 times between now and race day. I would not even start looking at the weather until at least 10 days out.

I am going to be renting one of these on race day.  With my running injury I have no idea what my pace will be so I figured this would make it easier for my support crew to find me.  I was on their beta site watching some of the IMKY athletes yesterday and it seemed to give pretty reliable updates every few minutes.  I figured for 23 bucks it's worth a shot. Considering all the other expenses I've racked up for this day this is just a drop in the bucket.  If you're wondering, they do have race site pickup available.

I just called, spoke to someone from the company and rented one myself.  You can pick it up at the race and they give you a return envelope to send it back.  The guy was very helpful.  Considering the problems ironman.com had yesterday, I wanted an alternative just in case.

Does anyone know if you can look at the GPS data a few days after the race?  Does it keep time stamps along your course with speed and elevation information?  If it does that would be amazing.

I have used this device twice.  Once at IMWI last year and then again at Silverman (where some of the bike is out of the coverage, but that is way out there in the middle of the desert)

I have to say it worked great.  It is small enough to not bother you.  It does come with a little holster, but I found it much easier on the bike, to put it in the little pocket in my jersey.  The updates work great!  My wife followed me around using an iPhone and others on their computers.  Well worth the $ for spectators and very little impact on my race (slow and steady...   )

I guess I assumed since they have race pick up that they'd have race drop off so the $15 return shipping fee would be credited back as per their fine print

I am getting one as well....and they said if you return it that weekend then you do get the $$ credited back. You think Ironman.com is going to get lambasted about the issues yesterday?  I tried all day to get on site and could not.  Like someone said, over a million dollars collected you would think they could rectify server issues....just saying.

Yeah, I talked to the guy to clarify and they will not be in Madison after the race to pick-up the units so our only option is to put them in the mailer and send them back.  I think I will get one anyway.  My wifes misses me on much smaller races and she would like to have an idea where the heck I  am over 16 hours!

I've got 47 BTers on my tracking spreadsheet... which is less than half of those BTers registered
And I don't have anything besides screen names/bib numbers for a lot of ya'll.

Can someone post the link to exactly what you are talking about? I see a $19.95 rental fee so must be missing something.

It is a little misleading, because the daily rental is $19.95, but then you have to pay a $3.00 handling fee and $15.00 return postage fee.  You can pick up the unit at the expo in Madison, but they are not sticking around for us to turn them in after the race.  We will have to send it back in the mailer, therefore incurring the extra charges.  Had they stuck around, they would have credited the $15.00 and kept the $3.00.

You know, marketing and all that!
