Its the end of a rest week for me, so racing the Haynnis Half Marathon on Sunday.  Trying for an agressive PR in the 1:45-ish range.  Should be intersting seeing that the forecast calls for snow showers.

Good luck and fingers crossed for the PR and weather. Let us know how it goes!

That swim start video gave me butterflies - I can't wait!!

I have a 2 hour ride planned for tomorrow then a 2 hour run for Sunday.  It was raining cats and dogs here in the NYC today and supposed to get cold again for tomorrow.  I am determined to get my ride down outside so I'm crossing my fingers all this rain doesn't freeze up overnight!

me too!  I think its gonna stay just warm enough tomorrow to thaw anything out. I think this rain took care of the last bout of snow.

Sounds like some people are having some decent weather. We just got hit with about a foot or so of snow, but the temps aren't terrible. Looking to get in a 3 hour ride on the trainer and a 10 mile run. Then I get to treat myself to an active recovery week next week. Can't wait!!!

Weather is looking somewhat better:

Light snow during the morning. Then remaining cloudy during the afternoon. High 39F. Winds ENE at 10 to 20 mph. Chance of snow 70%. Snow accumulations less than one inch.

Here's hoping.

Swim think about it 2500-3000 people but how many are you near maybe 4-8.  I swam inside of buoy line for both first and second lap other than two turn buoys.

Do the math and figure out where you'll be and how many others are around your time. In '08 I was slow and I had looked at results from '07 and knew I'd be in the last 50 so not much contact at all.

Me this week, I'm registered for Hyannis HM but am in TX right now so not racing.

I drove with friend from Tampa to outside of Houston last 2 days so not much training. Plan to go run soon.

I wish I had my bike snow at home but 75 here

Hi All,

I'm not racing but will be there to cheer you all on. I took this picture - thought if any one would appreciate it's beauty, it would be this thread. Smile

Good luck and happy training everybody!!

I get the heebee jeebees just thinking about the swim. Maybe I'll buy some pet piranhas, and tie them to my wetsuit, so I can ward off any contact during the swim.

What do you all think?

Felt like summer 'round here this weekend with high 30's/low 40's temps and plenty of sun. I got out for a 2.5 hour ride followed by a 30 min run yesterday, then did a 90 min run outdoors this morning. Hopefully it keeps getting warmer out!

Did you get outside?

Nice work sir! This is perfect outdoor running weather.

Didn't get outside for the bike yesterday but had a good trainer class. Did get to walk to Ben's Chili Bowl where I had 2 chili dogs 1 side fries and 1 milkshake. What a great workout!

Today was great running weather and I got a good 10miler in Hope everyone's having a good one too! This week will be the start of meteorological spring!

Ran my half today -- 1:46:38

Wasn't able to do my usual coffee - bathroom routine this morning because we were running super late (snow storm turned a 2.5 hour drive into almost a 4 hour drive). Held 7:47 through 10K (took my split as 48:22). About Mile 7 my stomach stop cooperating. Had to stop twice to use the bathroom at miles 8 and 12 (yes, 12 -- it was that bad). Still finished with a solid PR, but I WILL be getting my 1:42 at the Danbury Half in April.

We arrived in Florida yesterday for our week long training trip.  We all went out on a nice ride today, and the main goal was having fun while getting some sun.

The bad news though is that I went down when I was in the middle of the 3-person paceline going into the wind at about 20mph.  I've got some painful road rash in quite a few locations and I should probably get stitches for my split eyebrow, but I'm extremely lucky based on some of the stories I've heard.

My goal has definitely switched from hammering out 500miles this week to making sure I'm healthy and enjoy the week.

I just can't help but think that if my B16 hadn't broken, I wouldn't have been in a tight paceline with my roadbike.  But these are things that happene to everyone I guess.

wstchstrTriathlete - Haha! Yes although I'm trying not to qualify for the "elite" category in that triathlon!

kaburns1214 - Congrats on your PR - great pace! Looks like your coach and plan are paying off. You must have been really struggling to need to stop again at mile 12 though. That is crazy. How was the weather at the race?

carlwithac - Hope you are ok! Might want to get that eye looked at just in case. Seriously glad you're ok. And thanks for posting... sounded like it may have been unavoidable but a good safety check for everyone regardless!

21 weeks to go!

Carlwithac - damn man, sorry to hear about the crash.  Glad you were able to walk away from it.  Hopefully you'll be back training soo.

Kaburns - Congrats on a nice PR!  A PR with two potty-breaks, now that is something to be proud of!!   And like you said, you're gonna Rock the next half even harder!!!

DC- Thanks for posting that video of the IMLP swim start from 2010. I was watching the start while knee deep in the water on the right side of the lake just under the starting line flags. I get chills just thinking about when that cannon went off. So exciting that in less than 5 months someone will be filming all of us as the cannon goes off!

KathyG put the craziness of the swim start in good perspective. There are 2500+ in the water, but we really only deal with the 4 or 5 that are right around us. Also, if you look at the video there are some pockets of open water. I'll be looking for those little sections of open water in July. Kathy, how far from the start flags did you seed yourself?

In the video you see people swimming the first 50 or 100 yards with their heads up looking forward for room to swim. How many of us have practiced this? I'm swimming today and will def. try this out.

Does anyone have advice on some swim goggles that they think are awesome? I swim with a pretty standard pair of TYR, but don't love them. Also, they need to be pretty exact in order to keep the water out. I'm afraid that at the IM any contact with my goggles will make 'em leak...

I am huge fan of swedes - cheap, durable and super reliable. I know some people, myself included, that have owned the same pair a very long time without ever having an issue. I have owned one pair of swedes over 10 years now and still have not had a leak.

AquaSphere Kaimans.  Super soft around the eyes, they DON'T give me racoon eyes, and on average stay leak-free for about 8-months.

Its my favorite time of the month -- February totals:

Bike:32h 05m 22s  - 588.96 Mi
Run:15h 51m 06s  - 105.75 Mi
Swim:7h 23m 58s  - 24400 Yd
Massage:2h 00m

Volume is a little low this month --because of my build into Hyannis, I ended up with two rest weeks this month.  All of March is a 5 week base block, so these totals should be moving up again.
