nice ride bill

Been too nice here or just too sick/hurt to score many points the last few weeks.

wgraves7582 - 2011-03-03 6:49 AM Scored a nice 777 this morning thanks to temps in the single digits.

Had the new bike together, woke up early for some reason, so I did what every normal person does - hop on the bike around 4:30 and ride an extra hour before work!

Nice job Bill!

Sounds normal to me.

Finally had a nice day here, -12C with wind. Positively balmy considering what we have been getting lately.

No problem but challenge ends 3/31 just as a heads up.

Good thing for us - being in Alaska I would think you could score quite the points very easily!

Thanks-- I'm still trying to access the spread sheet since I'm new to this. I think it will be fun and something to add onto for next year.   As for an Alaska advantage I didn't see a bonus for -40 Deg.

Looks like a snowstorm is coming my way - neat.  I'm back in Minnesota for the rest of the month, so I am hoping for some last minute pointage.

Looks like winter isn't done yet, snow today and another snow storm on the way for Wednesday. So there is hope for me yet.

Think I am going to have to look at biking outside next winter. Just can't get myself to ride for more than 30 minutes in the basement.

I am so bloody sick of this weather. I am losing my mind. I spend hours looking at the 14 day forecast just waiting for things to warm up. Last week the low was sub -18C every friggin day. Some days it was below -20. Then there was the friggin wind chill, and snow. I thought I froze my face off more than once. And no traction. I got 5000 points last week, last march I don't think I even got 2000 THE WHOLE MONTH, although I can't remember, and I think the only points I got was for riding my bike. Won't be riding my bike soon here.

I am sick of it, it is ridiculous. I just want to feel the warm glow of the sun on my back, is that too much to ask?

It is -15 and I am going to go run. At least there is no wind.

They say 6C on Wednesday. Better bloody well be!

Nice week Darren!

Although I don't think I would want to have to put up with those temps anymore either.

I'm with you, brother!  I will be happy after reading your message that we are at least quite a bit warmer here (in the 30s today, up from 11 last week).  But of course that means more snow - neat!  I honestly cannot even fathom when/how the snow is going to melt.

I took this picture this weekend.  Pretty redonkulous for March:

So there's hope then!  I can only imagine the flooding, yikes.

Fortunately the streets and paths are quite clear, so for 90% of a ride you could get by with slick tires.  It's that other 10% at intersections or melting points - yikes.

We are supposed to get 3 - 6" of heavy wet snow on Wednesday. Thursday I am supposed to do speed work, not sure where I am going to do that. I haven't looked at the school track but I am sure it is still under snow, and I hate the thought of going to the Y.

It is those key workouts that suffer. I mean it is easy enough to go out in a jog in the middle of a blizzard. The problem is when you have to do a LT workout or speed or something and your pace is all messed up because of the conditions. I never really got this problem before as I didn't do those workouts, but now that I do it is bothersome.

Looking at the temps where you are, I wouldn't be surprised if you saw a lot of melting by Thursday's run.  It may be slushy, yes, but probably not slippery.

What I often do is find a good stretch on a path and just run back and forth.   I had to do a run LT test in December, found about a half mile stretch of mostly clear path) and just kept turning.   Think about a section where there is a lot of sun.

I do just the opposite when it's really hot and sunny - run back and forth under tree cover.  Good luck!
