Decided to do a double-day today. Morning spin, 2500 meter swim after work. That means i can easily participate in bike to work day tomorrow without worrying about training. Taper hours are easy-peasy. P.S. Rain currently forecasted for IMTX! Ugh.

Heading out for a 2 hour tempo ride now (2 x 20 min tempo intervals) and then running hills tonight.

I'm so ridiculously tired, I need to do something to snap out of this, I'm just not sure what.

Kelly have you talked to your coach about the fatigue. Maybe your TSS is high or just need an adjustment in training? I would definitely talk to the coach.

What exactly is TSS?

You should definitely talk to your coach about it.  My own suggestion would be to take a day off.  Now.

Did a 6mi easy run this morning.  Lungs still not 100% clear from my cold, but I don't feel the fatigue I had early in the week and my legs feel fine.  Hoping to do an easy spin on the bike this evening.  Probably just 45-60 minutes.

It is getting hard to believe I have an 8-9 hour race (if things go OK!) coming up on Sunday!

Got up at 4:15 for my longest run yet. Went with a group of other ladies. Pace was faster than I wanted, still slow but I wanted to go slower . Got in 11 miles. I really learned a lesson this morning: the last 3 miles of that half marathon are going to be torture. My brain just shut off at 1:30 min running. Just like that I was done. Good thing I had a friend with me to keep me going!

Indeed, I was just having this conversation with an athlete my coach is currently training. He's training for IMCDL and is really pushing the volume. He's fatigued, but didn't want to tell our coach because he wants to do all the workouts on the schedule and is afraid if he doesn't he won't be prepared and he doesn't want to complain. This is the exact opposite of what our coach actually wants his athletes to do. He get's frustrated when people aren't communicating with him about how they are feeling so that he can make the adjustments in their schedule. It's far more important to be executing training sessions properly then simply completing them because they are on a schedule.

What are the distances of your race? Good luck! I'll quit whining about my little run now

I'm still waiting for pictures of all the new bikes too!

He knows I'm tired, but I'm still executing my key workouts the way I'm supposed to, so its likely mental fatigue (this whole day job thing can really get in the way).  He's watching my numbers, if I start to slip, then more rest.

Strangely enough, once I started riding this morning, I felt much better, now if only I can finish a memo in opposition at work today I'll be all set.

Fred Doucette - 2011-05-12 9:10 AM BTW, posting with our new 4G network in state college. Very fast!

Very cool...you'll be seeing speeds that rival many of the faster land line connections around.  Now that's exciting technology!

It's a 5/84/15 run/bike/run.  Run is on trails and both are very hilly.  Looks like rain, too.  Oh well, what can you do?

There is a (not very good) pic in my albums.  I will try to get a better one and post it when I have a chance.

Got in a nice 35 mile ride this morning, three loops of what I thought was a bit more hilly terrain, but I would consider 1400 ft over 24 miles of the loop to be anything to write home about. Anywho felt good and stong and rode the ride all in the big ring and was able to recover quickly into the descents. Took a fall carry my bike up the stairs on the back porch when I got home and smashed my knee into the step....ouch....not a great ending to the ride.

Finally, after about 40 hours, my digestive system feels like it's getting back on track.  Must have been some type of bug.  Either from riding in a short downpour on Saturday, or maybe the Tai food I ate on Monday night.

Body still doesn't feel like training though, so I'm hoping to just take the bike out for a pre-race spin tomorrow just to make sure the changes I made are tuned properly (different cassette and disc cover).

Looking at the weather, it looks like there may be rain for IM Texas (tho weather reports are only a prediction).  I've done tri's in the rain and it does decrease my need for fluid intake but am curious if anyone has any strategies for monitoring this.  For IM's, I will often use the frequency or urination, and if I stop to pee, the color of my urine as a rough guide to how well I am hydrating.  I find it difficult to assess need for fluid intake when raining and would like to know if others have strategies that work for them.

Have you thought about getting your iron levels checked?  Random, I know, but it's a thought.
