Member ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Morning everyone! I'm excited for my first race ever...5K tomorrow! And Ken, the track coach said to breathe in the nose, out the mouth with big belly breaths, not chest. Also, sorry to hear of your recovery time, I'm sure it will go by faster than you think, hopefully! Good luck to everyone racing this weekend. And Peter, glad you're back! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Today I got in a nice little run, not very long. Great run. And you know what feels really weird? Doing this run at 6:30am and finishing up by 7. At 7pm, I felt like I didn't get any workouts in, felt like I wanted to go out for a run. Looked at my calendar, and boom, I did my run already. Really feels weird! Kind of busy this weekend - Going on a 8 mile hike tomorrow sans dog (which saddens me, but because of the heat, and she seems to get exhausted after 1 1/2 hours of hiking, and begging me to pick her up). Will put in a short mile run before the hike (super easy), then hopefully a 45-60 min easy-moderate bike trainer ride later on depending how I feel. Sunday - MTB again, and this time it'll be around the beginner's loop (which I didn't go on last week), so I should be okay. Have a great weekend everyone!!! |

New user![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Holy Batman! I thought Florida was suppossed to be flat. I think they found the most hilly 56 miles for the bike and just for kicks went back and looked for a more hilly 13.1 for the run. Might have to adjust my goal time just a little. Not many hills where I train. But Hey at least the swim is flat LOL. My bib is 1642. Either way I've got a PR on the way ![]() |

Of course I guess that is all relative since I train in a hilly area where 2 or 3 mile climbs aren't out of the ordinary. Have great race and a lot of fun!! |

New user![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Well, I guess there is nothing left to do. Exactly one year ago tomorrow, I was doing my first sprint. I guess it's been a good year for me. This time tomorrow I will have finished my first HIM and taking the next week off for Disney with the family. Then I'm going to take it easy for the next week and time to start training for IMFL. This group has been great for keeping me going even when I'm not very active on here sometime. A special thanks to Ken. Good luck to every body else racing this weekend. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Been a little behind on posting. Russ and Lynn - how were your races? Ann and Wesley - have great ones. I don't envy Wesley, schlepping around Disney after 70.3!!! I've got a sprint tommorrow. My only goal is to bike as fast as I possibly can. In last year's sprints, I wanted to save for the run, and saved too much. Tomorrow's run is only 2.6, so I'll try to go all out on the bike (but still wont have a fast bike split) Happy training/racing to all. |

My brother in law just emailed me a bunch of pictures of Lance on his way to winning, it looks like it was warm there today! I didn't want to mention this before the swim, but did you see any gators Wesley? I hope you race has gone as you wanted!! Enjoy the recovery time on the cruise! |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() First (finished) race in the books for the year and I rocked it! I'll post a RR when the splits are in, but it is the first time I felt like I was racing, not participating. After the race I waited for my friend who won her age group and listening to the times of the younger winners, i had delusions of grandeur, thinking i might actually place... Ha! I forgot just how fast the M35-39s are. Oh well, just need to keep getting faster and older. Hope you all had a good weekend. Wesley - congrats!! Your training is really paying off. I'm looking forward to your RR. Enjoy Disney. |

New user![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Well, it didn't kill me. I think it was somewhere around 150 degrees. Let me start by saying that hills are relative but I train where the biggest hill is usually an overpass. But in my opion the RD is a big fat liar ![]() |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() CONGRATS to all the racers this weekend - WOOT!!!! I volunteered at the Gold Nugget Women's only Sprint here in Anchorage (I believe it is one of the oldest women only races - 30 years). I was a bike catcher - got the ladies off the bikes and then handed them over to be put in the Uhaul as T1 and T2 were in different places. It was very cool to be on the other side of the race and will definately have to do it again!

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Nice race yesterday. Sorry I'm late getting anything up- monday is my anniversary so my wife and i had a nice dinner after the race. My home computer is on the fritz and i'm typing this on my phone so pardon the typos. The first thing i heard when i got out of my car was that the water temp was 79 degrees. The official reading came about 15 minutes later at 80 so i took the wet suit back to the car. Pretty nervous about the swim, but i held my form much better than the last race. The distance still got to me and i had to take a few breaks. The swim was longer than advertised, but with the breaks, I wasn't totally spent coming out of the water. The MS delta is very flat so i was hoping for a fast bike time. However, i think i really messed up pre-race and put too much stuff in my stomach before. I was trying to get hydrated for the heat, but felt a little queesy about 3/4 thru the bike. I tried to overcome it by backing off a skosh. I went into the run feeling ok, but about 200 yards into it, my stomach took a turn for the worse. I was going to throw up and i was going to do it soon. Classic case of doing doing something new on race day, but this was by far the hottest day we've had so far- trying to beat the heat. I got to the side of the road and hurled a few times. I walked in between. As soon as the last one came, i knew it was over because I instantly felt better. I started to run. The run was pretty good. It was flat, but it was basically in a casino parking lot and pretty hot by this point. I did ok, but didnt have much left to kick in the last mile like i was hoping. All in all, ok race, but a lot of fun and motivates me for the next one. I really hope to pull myself up to at least the middle of the pack. More work to be done. Unfortunately, i'm going to have to take a little break from training. I'm taking the CFA exam on June 2 and I am woefully underprepared for it. It's a finance certification test with a very low pass rate so i'm going to have to hit the books for the next two weeks. Maybe I'll get a few runs in. Sounds like everyone else had good races. Awesome job guys. |

Good luck on your studying for and taking your test! oh and HAPPY ANNIVERSARY! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() It sounds like people were quite busy this weekend I was going to go for my first outdoor ride yesterday but we had a day of rain which is very unusual here and I wasn't into riding in the rain with 40 and 50 degrees temps. The people who did ride are training for IMCDA and since I have a ways to go before I must do the rides, I decided to stay home and watch IMTX on my laptop. I did do a two hour trainer ride in the evening and reaquainted myself with my Adamo saddle. I took both my road and tri bikes to the bike fitter on Friday for some adjustments and decided to give the Adamo a second try. I so want it to work out but was having lots of problems with it before IMAZ last year. The trainer ride went pretty well and the saddle felt OK considering I haven't been on it in many months. I hope to take it out for a real ride this weekend and see how that goes. I spent a good part of the day reading Chrissie Wellington's book. I do recommend it. It is a good read. I hope everyone has a good week, heals quickly and/or stays injury free. Ken, best of luck with your surgery!! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Morning all! I had a good Olympic yesterday. Not a fast race, but I achieved my goal. In 2011 I had a terrible time at this course with asthma and just could not breathe. The whole race felt like one big panic attack. My goal was to complete the race feeling calm and in control. With the wonder of modern medicine and some focused breathing, I achieved my goal. Had a great time too. Drove down with my training buddy's husband (she is injured, so came as a spectator on race morning) and he completed his first Olympic distance in a smoking fast time. Also met another BTer and found a great pizza place. I would call it a good weekend. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Great racing everyone. I am jealous. I have to wait a while for an event. May and June are the busiest months to be a parent of middle school kids! |
