I got my 2500 yd swim in and 45 run yesterday. Today is supposed to be a 30 min Z2 ride with a quick change to a 15 min run. This may be on hold - outside of the fact that it's snowing/raining/freezing rain outside, my poor little 10 year old has the stomach bug. Poor baby. Every 15 min to 1/2 hour for the last 4.5 hours. Strength to you, my child! First and foremost - hope your bambino feels better ASAP! Nothing worse than having a sick kid. Good on your for your work in the pool yesterday! I hope you are able to get in your ride. Are you signing up for the season opener - it's not on mother's day. If you do - I will do! It might be a late sign-up, I have to wait on the soccer and baseball schedules. I usually help coach baseball so it might depend on if there is a game that weekend and if hubby is willing to have the 8 year old tag along without me for the soccer game on Sunday when the race is. We shall see. I would love to do it though! |

More maintenance than anything. We have worked through last year's injury but there are still muscle imbalances there to work on. Now he's also making sure I'm maintaining mobility everywhere with the added training - shoulders, etc for swimming. I have a torn labrum in my right shoulder that i was able to avoid surgery for so he's keeping an eye on that as well. He's also been working with me on cycling strengthening exercises and upper back strength. Oh I gotcha, that sounds like it would be really helpful. Good luck! |

2126 Baltimore, Maryland | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society (BDAS) - Open DQ - Good luck on that run! It sounds like it will be nostalgic and very fun! Kevin - 15 lbs! That's great, congrats! You earned that day off! Mark - Congrats on your first half of the season! Way to go on the time, especially just with running 3x/week! Better than good! Mike - I live in Canton! Too bad you became a county man (although judging solely by your picture you may be a bit too fast to be a running partner, haha). I am right by Patterson Park, just south of Baltimore Street. How do you like Middle River? I go out there on occasion to go to Kohl's. Yoga was awesome last night, especially since walking down stairs was really difficult all day. This morning I did another HIIT workout at my gym and already felt so much better than the one on Monday! Hoping to get a run in tomorrow. Edited by nicole14e 2016-02-24 11:59 AM |

We know that Kohl's well. :-/ Middle River is a nice area - it's just taking some adjustment to not be able walk everywhere, especially to enjoy those frosty beverages our mentor group is famous for. I was just a couple of blocks from you - just south of the Park on Rose Street. And that picture is from three years ago LOL it's from the Druid Hill Park Triathlon up near the zoo. I still swim at the Merritt and my daughter goes to school down there, so we're in town a bunch still. Edited by jmhpsu93 2016-02-24 12:14 PM |

Thanks to my father's knee replacement surgery and my brother triple bypass (and my lack of a job), I'm out here in Cleveland (my hometown) and plan on running from the hospital where I was born, to my house, to all the schools where I went to some of my favorite stores and hangouts when I was a kid.... Should be a blast and since it'll be a long (around 15 miles), I plan on walking and running the whole thing. I'll give you a report tomorrow! Prost! Sounds like a great run, literally down "memory lane". |

Extreme Veteran 1648 | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society (BDAS) - Open Originally posted by Snewo Originally posted by Moonrocket How are you going about changing your stride? Just focusing on it and making a change? Very Interesting! My podiatrist (ultramarathon runner) told me to run on a treadmill barefoot for a few minutes to find my stride. Then find a neutral shoe and start to run using that stride. I was a heel-toe runner but when testing barefoot that doesn't work, so my barefoot stride ended up shifting to a more midfoot/forefoot stride. It feels strange...like you're running lighter if that makes any sense. It just feels less jarring. Mike is right about stride changes, they do take a while. It uses different muscles than heel toe. You're calves will hurt a bit ;-) Last year I would do a little of both. It wasn't really planned, I would just end up falling back on heel-toe as the run went longer and my legs got more tired. This year I'm going to really work to stay midfoot the whole run. Hopefully it will help with all of the joint pain I would experience post race. The muscles we not really the issue...but the joints...WOW. Thanks!!! Great explanation! |

He can't keep anything down. Nasty bug going around - hoping the 8 year doesn't get it too. At least they're on vacation (and so is my college) so none of us are missing school. I'm hoping he gets a good night's sleep and feels better by morning. He's already requesting spaghetti and garlic bread for dinner tomorrow night if he's not still sick.....hhmmmm, that might not be my first choice after a stomach bug!! Hahaha I'm supposed to get a swim in tomorrow and I think a short, high rpm bike. We'll see how it goes...tough losing a training day and I need to learn/accept that missing a day here or there won't completely derail my overall training. If I just had some ginger ale for the poor kiddo - he wasn't well enough to leave alone to run to the corner market for some. |

With all you put your body through - you need a PT to help you take care of yourself. |

I sat down yesterday with the calendar and mapped out some tentative races. I won't sign up for anything until the spring, just in case vacations or work travel schedules shift on me.
Have you done any of these? With the exception of Nantasket, my normal set of races all land on bad weekends this year. Sorry chiming in so late - I haven't done a single race on the list, but 1. I am planning on doing the Duathlon at the Season Opener. and I know Dave Q ritually does the Tri every year. And it's finally not on Mother's Day this year. and 2. my wife has done the Olympic at Cranberry twice and I've been a spectator. Great race, great crew. Dave MacGillivray (Boston Marathon RD) does it, and last year did the Oly with actor Sean Astin (who my wife ended up chatting with on the run course). |

1007 DeLand, Florida | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society (BDAS) - Open Anyone have favorite calf stretches they want to share? Step 1. Stand on a stair. Step 2. Let heels drop Step 3. Hold at least a minute. Got this from my PT and not only does it allow more stretch than the toes on the wall heel on the floor stretch, it also allows you to stretch both calves equally, and adds in the opportunity to do calf raises, concentric calf drops, etc (all PT exercises). |
