I have a 26 mile training run tomorrow. It was supposed to be today, but I only got in 10 so I'm trying again tomorrow. I'm having a really tough time with this one mentally. I tried to find a marathon to run, but no luck. I have to do this one on my own... no friendly volunteers, no aid stations, no shirt or medal. I just keep getting hung up thinking "26 miles?!? Shouldn't I at least get something to show for this. 26 miles is a long way!" . I know I need to just get over it and HTFU.  I figure if I tell you all about it, it will help me follow through tomorrow. After all, I don't want to have to fess up to not getting the run in. If anyone has any advice or tricks they use to mentally prepare and get through long training runs I'd love to hear them.

No tricks Roni, but....knowing that this sort of solitary long a$$ run will make you mentally stronger and able to deal with the challenge of your 50k trail race can be incentive enough.  Last weekend, I wanted to use a local half marathon for the first 13 miles of my 20 miler and coach advised against it, he said to really try to do it alone....and I am glad I did.  No music, no one to talk to just the sound of my own breathing and the freedom of not being attached to anything at all in that moment...it was actually SO rewarding to get it done.  I knew that when I start looking forward to the Garmin beeping every 15 minutes to remind me to drink water just to break up the monotony what solitary confinement must feel like!!!  and here we are, free and able to enjoy this green earth...So Amazing!  You WILL get it done and then you must report back to us!!!  good luck!

What a great race she is having!  She beat a good friend of mine on the swim by a couple minutes and he flies!!  I would hate to be down there racing them!  Go Linda!

I wish B2B had live tracking.  They had the swim times posted but took them down.  I can't find them anymore.

Anyone care to help me identify if this is actually a Fluid2 trainer?  I am interested in buying it, but I'm not sure it's actually a Fluid2 - I thought they were all grey and yellow - this is supposedly a demo model, but it looks rather old.

Dude, that is not a fluid 2 trainer. If it is, its not new....I just bought one a month ago.

I would assume that the 03 means 2003 - six years old perhaps...

I did find another one on ebay that looks almost identical.  Also black, but looks new and the seller says it's 6 years old.  The tag on the one above appears to say "Demo CycleOps 03 Fluid2"  But I also was too excited and missed the $100 shipping charge - so I'll be passing on it.

I was just going to edit my post to say that Andy. I googled a few and it does look like a pretty old one Jeremy.
I bought my new one last month for $320.

First, I continue to be amazed by our Linda.  Just think how much she has been through the last two weeks leading up to this race...mentally tough and a physical animal to boot.  I was telling the BT'ers at my race about her today. WHOA!

Roni,  I think this run is extremely important for you.  Like Kim said it builds mental toughness and makes you think about your strategy to get through it leading up to your ultra.  You need to go inside yourself versus having the distractions of the fans, etc.  When I did 26m on a TM, I would alter pace to keep my legs fresher and back then I also listened to music. Today my advice would be to focus on how you would handle yourself in your ultra, when to drink, when to speed up, how to handle pain, practicing your mantras if you use them, etc.

Did the half in around 2:04ish which was hard for me to accept mentally. My HR was Z3 from the start despite an ez RPE so in essence I stuck to the plan.  I decided to go with it and ended up seeing a friend at 4m who asked me to pace him to the finish which turned out to be great for both of us. No leg pain at all, but my right foot is messed up,not PF, but at one point I thought it might be an SFX.  After being home, I think it is something else....ice is the order of the night....the bright spot is I met a slew of BT'ers--Schmize, CoreDump, Whizz, DJDavey, JMWebs and a lot of other tall Donkeys (the BT WI tri team)....really fun to put people to handles and avatars.

Good luck Sam, John, Chet and Tracy.  I will be rooting for you!

PS Jeremy would love to have you do Racine.  My advice is get a hotel asap.  The host hotel , Radisson HarbourWalk is within minutes of the start walking, but requires a two night minimum.  It will fill fast.  I am not staying there since I only need to arrive the night before.

FYI- you guys rock!  thanks for the support and inspires.  Linda - FANTASTIC.  I hope you don't feel like me right now  Done 11:44 and change.  Little wind but over all awesome.  Saw Tracy on the first lap of the run.  Doug said she had a great swim but the calf was hurting her.  I didn't see her the second lap.

Was able to run the whole marathon but at a very slow pace.  Met all my goals and am on cloud nine right now- out for that beer in 2 minutes!  Everyone, have one on me.  Thanks again, Chet
