kt65 - 2009-11-10 1:44 PM Holy Moly!  3.5 pages since last night, you guys have been "working hard"

I just finished my last hard track workout before the marathon...which I cannot wait to get here, btw!
8 x 800's on 3:25's and I made my splits this time.

Boy, it seems like everyone is going to Lonestar, I feel so left out!

Can't wait to see Andy's piercing

My bike is almost done...we had decided on some Easton EA70 wheels that would be somewhat aero without breaking the bank, and now they are on backorder for awhile.
Anyone have any ideas?

I can really only think of one way to avoid the problem above!

Doug, congrats on finding the right coach.   I think it can make a big difference, especially when you are trying to hone certain skills.

Hey Sam, I have used biofreeze, but am kind of lukewarm on it.  Like Tracy said better than nothing, but icing trumps it IMO as well.

Later kids.  I'm out the door.

Is this common to have out at aid tables in a race?  Would anyone use it if it was available to you while running?

I know at MCM they had Vaseline, that was about it.

Beware of getting it on the sensitive bits though...  but that is story for another day....

Firehouse humor is a quick finger full of it into someone's armpit.

But a quick serious side note - don't rub it on a sore back and then take a shower!

Don't mince jalapenos without a glove and then go take leak either - but that is a story for another day...

Havin'Fun - 2009-11-09 1:48 PM Roni,  good job on pushing through and getting that training in.  Sorry to be so out of the loop - when is the Ultra?

Thanks, Linda! I'm doing the Woodside 50k on December 5th. Just made our hotel reservations yesterday, so we're all set to go!

Is it bad I was reading Runners World the other day and there was an article on the JFK 50 miler and said to myself, "wow that sounds like a lot of fun, I should train for that."

I'm just the opposite.  Somewhere around mile 9 on the run on Sunday I told the Houston Marathon to go F itself.  I want to spend a few weeks taking it easy and hanging out with the family A LOT more.  This is a super time of the year.  I'll switch it over to the half chill out for a little while.   Then focus on getting ramped up for lone star.

That's AWESOME news Roni!!!  Andy said if you signed up he'd get his nipple pierced too before the race so you guys could compare piercings.  Lets us know how that works out for ya brother

Okay man...You have to explain to my coworkers why i just laughed out so loud!!
"why did I laugh out  loud?" " Oh it was something funny that a buddy of mine that I haven't met yet said on a triathlon MG website."
That was one of the funniest things you have ever said John!

glad i can help out.

I had some (Daves Insanity) at the restaurant I was managing in Beaumont.  We would put like the tine of a fork into it and put on a cracker and even that little amount hurt...  One guy decided he was a "man" and could handle it (w/o testing a little first) and filled a teaspoon up and slurped it up...  I tried to talk him out of it over and over, but he went ahead.  I laughed at him for probably 10 minutes as he yelped in pain!

So little spin class tonight.

My wife is doing her 1st 1/2 marathon on Sunday. I'm deciding how much of it I want to run of it with her. Her pace is slower than mine (unlike a couple I know within this MG). She wants me to pace her, but I think I'll turn more into a cheerleader for most of it. We'll see what i can do.

If you're looking for something for pain - I'd say go for a topical NSAID.

If you want a great topical NSAID...Voltaren Gel.  It's a prescription thing...and it rocks.

I took a line drive off the quad while pitching to the first batter.  I tweaked a hammie while running bases.  There are some other examples, but Voltaren fix them all.

They weren't healed, but it allowed me to maintain enough mobility that the injury never tightened up.

Like any NSAID there are some side effects if you get carried away so be careful with any NSAID.

I've never run a race with Robin, but she has asked me to make some training runs with her.  It's borderline painful to run at her pace.  But if me running slow is what it takes to keep her running I can handle it occasionally.

What is wrong with pacing her? Don't you love her? Kiss I paced a friend of mine this weekend since I could go all out and had a great time.  Little humbling crossing the line at the time I did,  but in the grand scheme of things it was worth it.

I have used "Traumeel" for assorted soreness issues.  It has calendula/arnica and other healing ingredients.  I have the Biofreeze, but like the traumeel better.  Non prescription.

Hey Bike people.....the bike I was planning to order uses a premium SFX which is an ink, not paint (I think that is right)  so you cannot touch it up if it scratches.  Big deal?  The designer told me i could use nail polish, really? on my new bike?  I fell three times this year, including a skid.  My Seven has some marks on it....is carbon more or less likely to scratch on impact?

Thanks Bike People.....off to dinner.

Suzy-  I crashed my carbon hard and have some marks.  I have both paint and ink.  I touched up the paint and it looks ok.  The ink portion just looks about the same.  Best advice- don't crash Laughing but not really a difference IMHO.

Doug - They had carpet on the bridges for the bike but not for the run.  It felt strange on tired feet for the run but was not an issue for the bike.

Traveled the last 2 days and am finally home.  Race report is up, don't know how to copy and paste a link on my Mac.  Thanks again to all of you, it was a long year to get to this race.  Proud of everyone in this group, you all bring something to the table - studs!

I had the easton circuits (the old version of the ea70) that i sold with my old bike. They were great all around wheels, i wish i didn't sell them with the bike. I missed them so much I just bought and installed the ea90 slx (today). The lighter weight/ceramic bearings version of the ea70. I bought them new through ebay (from a guy i trust) for $550 (they retail for almost double and similar price to ea70's retail price). If you're willing to go the ebay route you can save a ton of money and get great wheels. If you want i can send you a link to this guy's sight that i bought from. you might want to check ea90 aero's.. They are supposed to be great all around wheels that are very aero (and you can get them new for around $550 on ebay as well). The other wheels that i was looking at was the DT Swiss 1450 or the 1850. the 1850's are very aero but on the heavy side. The 1450's are similar to the ea90 slx, more of an all around/climbing wheel. The cheapest i've seen the dt swiss (both versions) is around $700. Both the easton and dt swiss models i've mentioned had great reviews and i know people who ride both and love them. I'm testing my new wheels tomorrow morning, i can't wait!

tahrens - 2009-11-10 1:19 PM I use both BioFreeze and IcyHot, but for different reasons.   The BioFreeze is what I use when I can't ice - usually after a chiropractic appt.  I can roll it on at the office and get a similar effect as ice -not as good but a good mobile alternative.   I use IcyHot when my muscles have a build up of lactic acid.  I usually put IcyHot on my legs when I go to bed, great clearing of the sinuses as well.  So to summarize, BioFreeze for icing and IcyHot for muscle soreness.

Is that just before you cuddle up to your hubby. My, how romantic

Went out with the Tri team last night for the first time. Pool swim of course and we were doing drills. We did a number of lenghts practicing darfting. I have never had the opportunity to just practice this. I couldn't believe how much easaier and faster it can make you. I kept running into the person in front of me. Then we went onto straight leg kicking and that wasn't nearly as much fun.

Lots of fun though and a good bunch of people. I'm really looking forward to the next year trainnig with this group and of course our very own SWBKRUN group.

grab the big ol 14oz ball between your legs and do some squats when the kids are shooting. Use them like kettleballs. Bowling alleys like that.
