Technically I'm a chemist at a chemical manufacturing company, although the days I get to use my degree seem few and far between Sounds a lot like my job these days... That is not encouraging for me finishing my degree and trying to get a job. I think that's just the nature of certain jobs. Responsibilites evolve and expand. Any idea what you want to do with your degree? Industry or academia? Not entirely sure yet. I think I will do a fellowship or a post-doc for a year or two after my PhD (genetics). I'd like to stay in clinical research in some aspect. I work closely with MDs and work on the research side and try to correate it with clinic data. It's pretty cool. Well if you enjoy the research I say stick with it. I was never really all that interested in the couple of research positions I held (internship and grad school). Now I kinda wish I would have found something I liked to finish an advanced degree of some sort. I feel like my mind has just been wasting away the last 5 years at my current job You're smart to not finish if you really didn't love the research. I do love it and there are the days when I think I'm an idiiot for still being in grad school. This month has definitely been one of them. I had pretty good hands in the lab but I just didn't enjoy it enough and I didn't have "vision". I left the research lab for a biotech services lab and when I lost my job there I went to database research for NCI. I'm still at the same job almost 10 years later but I'm no longer doing the molecular biology part. |

Pro 4343 Olney, MD | Subject: RE: PowerPuff Girls After diminishing returns on my last two runs I've decided that my body is trying to tell me I need a break, so I'm turning this week into a recovery week. Gonna cut back on the distance and the intensity, but not the frequency. Swim today, run tomorrow. |

Expert 1007 Hattiesburg, Mississippi | Subject: RE: PowerPuff Girls Mornin' folks! Had a great run this morning. I loved it, 35*F, sunny, just lovely. A big improvement from last night's funky run. I am also supposed to swim in about an hour, may take it easy as I still feel some strain from last night. The rest of my week will be on the quite side, short runs, maybe a quickie bike ride, as I have a 10K in New Orleans on Saturday (my birthday). Sounds like most everybody is already having a productive day as well! |

Expert 1202 Montana | Subject: RE: PowerPuff Girls Just an easy run on tap for today. Maybe take the flat route for 3 1/2 miles. Or maybe the scenic, gently rising and lowering dirt trail. Hmmm..... |

(and the scientific drinking studies don't count ) I am an artist; sculpture and ceramics, not much classic science, but a lot of inherent chemistry in glaze formulation, firing techniques, stuff like that. I love science and have a soft spot for scientists, nerdy lab coats and pocket protectors can be a real turn-on . |
