I'm planning on hitting town around 5:00 or so and thinking maybe Great Dane but open to company and suggestions. We would love to! But I doubt we will be in town in time for that. Where are you staying? Are you staying Saturday night too? |

Regular 200 Stoughton, WI | Subject: RE: Ford Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread sfulkers - 2011-08-16 9:38 AM Whizzzzz - 2011-08-16 8:33 AM We just booked a room for the MOWS for Friday and Saturday night @ the Days Inn by the Alliant Energy Center. Someplace over there. Not too far out of town... in Madison, in fact. We're driving up Friday after work and staying Friday night and Saturday night. (Saturday, if you're riding the whole course and doing the MOWS) is a LONG day. Last time I drove home. This year we're staying. I'm exhausted. This is my last biggish week. I did my last long run (or LONGEST run, I should say) last Thursday. This Thursday will be 13 miles, and the week will be capped off with MOWS + Ridethecourse. I struggle with running and it has the most potential to beat me up, injure me, and or sideline me, so I play it very conservatively. That being said, even though I feel EXHAUSTED when I'm not training, I've had some pretty good workouts even in my exhausted state. My body surprises me and is stronger than I think it is. I've been sleeping, but I wake up in the middle of the night with aches and pains. I roll around a lot trying to find a comfortable position in which to sleep. My periods of awakeness don't last, though, because I'm so damn tired. I'll see lots of you fools this weekend! CAN'T WAIT! I signed up to swim MOWS sans wetsuit. I can swim it either/or but I don't want race day to be the first time I'm swimming the distance in a lake without a wetsuit, in the unlikely event the swim is not wetsuit legal. So, without wetsuit it is! I hear you about being so tired. Sounds like my training plan is very close to yours, I also have a 13 miler this Thursday and then MOWS, ride the full course and a short run afterwards on Saturday. For all of you riding the full course Saturday, how are you handling nutrition? Maybe you've all been training with carrying all nutrition for your full ride on the bike, but I've usually stopped halfway to refill nutrion (and of course, stopping to refill water bottles every hour or two). If I was driving to Verona and just doing the loops, I wouldn't worry about nutrition restocking. But since I'm doing the "stick" too, I'm trying to figure out the logistics of this refill. I'm debating having my wife drive out to Verona at XX time to meet me with refills. Anyone else have grand plans for this? Steve I bring money and refill on the course. The bike shop in Cross Plains has water outside and they have gladly filled my bottles with ice for free. They also sell gatorade by the scoop - and maybe some other drinks as well. Buying bottled water seems like a waste, but if it is necessary - that's how I would handle that. I will just put my solid food in my bike jersey and bento box.

Me and the family are staying Thursday night through Sunday. Got a place in Middleton, Greenway Station with a full kitchen for $60 per so decided to make a long weekend out of it. If there is a get together put me down for one for sure and possibly three. |

Elite 3687 | Subject: RE: Ford Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread Here's what I'm thinking about a get together. If anyone wants to meet up at the Great Dane this Friday (8-19) evening I would love the company. I will probably be there around 6:45 or so. I'll hang around the bar until someone gets there(if) and then we can get a table. If no one shows up by 8:00 or shortly after I'll probably head back to the hotel and cry myself to sleep. How will you recognize me? I'm a bigger baldish guy and I'll be wearing the most hideous shirt I have. The 2008 mustard yellow IMWI finishers shirt. If anyone wants my cell send me a pm and I'll throw it your way. Hope to see some people there. |

Vantage points, shuttle buses (looked at 2010 Athletes Guide and saw the bus to Verona loop), any other advice... It is fairly easy for spectators to get around on the run course to see you in several places. I would not say there is one particular vantage point. Other than taking the bus to Verona to see you about mile 56 on the bike, there is not really an easy way to get around on the bike loop. I have friends who will ride their bikes on the loop to see me at different places, but driving the loop would be a nightmare. The turn around for the run is close to the finish line, and for me it helps to see a familar face at that point. I live in Madison. This is my 3rd time doing IMOOO so let me know if you have any other questions. Nicole

Vantage points, shuttle buses (looked at 2010 Athletes Guide and saw the bus to Verona loop), any other advice... FWIW, my family was able to get from downtown out to catch me on the bike course loop by parking somewhere near the ixn of Old Sauk and Timber Lane and then watching at the climb located near that ixn. They were then able to get back downtown and park in time to see me come into T2. |

How are you all feeling? Battered. Bored. And beaten. I know I only have one more big weekend... but it doesn't seem like a light at the end of the tunnel. I want to just stop right now. I need to get a little bit of my motivation back or my last long weekend is going to be a REALLY LONG weekend. |

There was a guy who had a hose out for bikers at the top of one of the hills. I saw it is still out there when I was out on the course a couple weeks ago. You should definitely figure out where/how you will carry your nutrition NOW before race day.
