Heading out for a 2 hour tempo ride now (2 x 20 min tempo intervals) and then running hills tonight.

I'm so ridiculously tired, I need to do something to snap out of this, I'm just not sure what.

Have you thought about getting your iron levels checked?  Random, I know, but it's a thought.

I would second this if you haven't, my friend had a similar problem, the solution was more iron.

Maybe it's iron levels - or maybe a monster training program.  Kelly has the most volume I've personally seen of anyone.  Even with build and recover periods built in, I think there has to be a point where you hit a mental and/or physical fatigue limit.  Maybe that's not the case, but if it were me I know I'd wear out at some point and just feel drained - it's happened at much, much lower training levels for me.

I'm always a day or two behind in my BT reading, but I did finally get around to reading this blog.  Pretty interesting stuff and obviously his theory seems to work.  However, as you argue, the question on whether this type of position is actually sustainable for a longer distance event like HIM/IM is a critical one.  A 40K TT is a lot different than 90 or 180K.  The proponent of this position didn't mention anything about testing hydration, digestion, or ability to run after the bike.  These are all somewhat important in the realm of triathlon....I would think.

Oh....and did a 60 minute run this morning with a recovery swim later tonight.  Have some good biking on the plan for the weekend, but Wisconsin weather refuses to cooperate this spring.  10 day forecast shows the best highs to be around 62....really?  We are in mid-may!  COME ON!  Sorry, had to vent.

Have not had a chance to read through the thread yet but I plan on it when the kids take their nap.

My 3 yr. old daughter broke a bone in her foot when I was gone on my bike ride the other night. We've had our hands full here for a couple of days trying to keep her off her foot (ie Mom carrying her around everywhere). She had a cast put on this morning so things will hopefully settle down a little! She is trying to walk on it for the first time right now but won't take the first step.

Rest day for me today. My foot is fired up after that long run yesterday morning. Hope it settles down so I can finish my last run of the week tomorrow morning.

No, but its worth a shot.

I actually feel much better today.  Recovery bike this massage, squeezed in a mid-day massage and then swimming tonight.  Part of my issue is that I'm not the best sleeper (I pass out at 8 p.m. but tend to wake up a lot during the middle of the night especially when work is stressful).

Think I'm going to go with 5.5 hours of rolling terrain tomorrow instead of killing myself on the Rev 3 Quassy course and hoopefully I'll go into next week a little less shelled.

Im getting close to my max volume, then I'll taper into IMLP.

I generally respond really well to higher volume, so I'm really curious as to what I'll be able to do at IMLP and how well my body will hold up in the build up.

Going to be tough to get all my training in this weekend. ABout to jump on the trainer for an hours since we are in the 30's here today, going to try to fit my swim in before work. Work til late tonight, then it's off to Madison for my sisters graduation party tomorrow which means I may get to do my long ride on the IMOO course (hopefully), last 2 days of my first big block of training so I am hoping I can get it all in.

Sigh....

Totally furstrated right now.  Long story short...my stomach bug has not gone away.  While I'm not super sick...I still have a case of the runs...haven't pooped anything solid since tuesday.

Did take the bike on a race setup test ride Thursday afternoon and took a spill on a U turn due to some gravel, and a flat front (due to a poorly installed valve extender).  Nasty scrapes on both my palms and my left forearm.  Bar end shifters took a beating, but still work.

Will go through the motions of packet pick up and bike drop off today, but not 100% sure I'll race.  I can race with a cold...but I can't imagine racing with the runs.  Especially when you expect your stomach to handle gatorade and GU while your body is pushing near LT.

ok...rant over.

Man, that sucks. Hope you are feeling better, race or not. Bad luck just happens sometimes and not much you can do but wait for it to pass. Hang tough!

Being sick sucks.  If you decide to race just be careful -- you're probably already pretty dehydrated and you don't want to end up with an IV bag at the finish.

.

Kelly I know you will figure it all out. As you said you handle the volume well. Keep a good dialogue with your coach and you should be fine.

Felt really good today.  Just finished up just under 100 rolling miles on the bike and a 6 mile T run.  Everything felt really good throughout (I asked Shaun if he wanted to do another 40 on the bike and he almost hurt me).  We also had a bobcat run across the road right in front of us, which was really cool.

Took it easy terrain wise this weekend because my glute muscle has be achy but we'll head back to the Rev 3 course next weekend for some more serious climbing.

Jason - that sucks, I feel bad for you, cause I know how frustrated I'd be if it was me.

If it's any consellation (and I know it's not), my Half Marathon is tomorrow, and it's expected to continue raining all of today and for the next 2 days + we get to enjoy 40kmph winds tomorrow.  5 months getting ready to set a PR and the weather decides it's going to be a factor.  Can't control it I guess, but it sucks none the less.

Good news.

Felt good all day so far (it's 3pm here).  Body aches are gone...cold chills are gone...haven't taken any tylenol at all today, and only had to use the bathroom on normal occassions thus far.

I think the only thing I'm really worried about tomorrow is trusting myself on the bike.  I'll be semi uncomfortable in aero...resting on my road rash...which could affect my handling.  And even riding my bike into bike checkin...I felt a little uneasy just riding on the horns at 12 mph.  I suppose it's different when you crash because the bike slips out from under you.  You have to learn to trust the bike again.  Last time I crashed because I ran over a big stick...I had no problem getting back on again...because I knew I would be fine so long as I didn't ride over another big stick.

Well today's planned called for 3 hours on the bike and my last big day of my first block of training. I have decided to shell the ride til tomorrow since it is 45 right now and only getting up to 50 and tomorrow is supposed to be in the mid 60's. Plus it is my sisters graduation party today and I want to get to Madison before the party starts so I simply wont have enough time to get a full ride in. Throwing in an easy run today before we leave for Madison, spend the day with family, and then get the long ride in tomorrow, then it is an easy week until my second big block starts on Saturday.
