Master 10208 Northern IL | Subject: RE: Mad Manatee Mentors 2013: CLOSED (exc/ Pop Tart bribes) Artemis - 2013-05-10 12:15 PM It's not the end of the world. I'd love to be a minimalist runner. I'm just not. I have to wear shoes with support and heel elevation (opposite of negative heel drop?) or I get PF and a bunch of other problems. I think non-minimalist running is better than minimalist injured. Heel elevation will mean drop as it's the amount of drop from the heel to the forefoot. Most all of my shoes have zero drop, meaning same thickness front & back. A few other types do this too, but most all will have some sort of drop. Basically nothing will have a negative drop as that's excessively hard on things and not sure there has been any advantage shown. Definitely have the right idea with the last sentence as running methods that hurt you are certainly not good! |

Master 10208 Northern IL | Subject: RE: Mad Manatee Mentors 2013: CLOSED (exc/ Pop Tart bribes) Asalzwed - 2013-05-10 12:19 PM Yeah, I think everyone just needs to run the way they remain comfortable and injury free, in the shoes that best accommodate this. Definitely. I tend to look at using shoes with just enough support & cushioning to do the job, letting the body develop over a longer period of time. The trick would be determining what "enough" is. Certainly would not some here to use what I do, or even that they should work on getting this point with some of the issues being brought up! I kid about the Hokas, but have may actually get pair of the Altra Torin at some point. They're meant to compete with the Hokas and other things about the fit of the brand has worked out well for me with other models. |

Other than injury, and maybe the amount of time it takes for recovery, do you have any other indicators of "enough?" Just curious. |

First of all the rules are tough, in case you don't know it's: 1 Beer, 1 Lap, 1 Beer, 1 Lap, 1 Beer, 1 Lap, 1 Beer, Final Lap
The beer HAS to be at least 5.0% so, no pansy light beers. It also has to come from a regular, un-tampered with can or bottle. So no shot-gunning etc.
If you throw up, you have to run an additional quarter mile
As it turns out I have lost all of my college skills for chugging beer. It is going to exceptionally tough with the 5.0+% rule. |

It's probably going to be that 20 minutes or so after finishing that's going to get sketchy. It sounds like the strategy will be to run faster than the alcohol coursing through your blood stream. Good luck with that. You have a chance of being successful. |

As it turns out I have lost all of my college skills for chugging beer. It is going to exceptionally tough with the 5.0+% rule. The key is spillage, find out the ruling on that. If you have to drink it all, then that is one thing, but overflow can not be helped at times. Another helpful hint, suck when it is nearly empty. Don't ask, suffice it to say that I have engineered a world class racing bed, but we were undone by the chugging portion of the race. |

Also, my mom said that he had been walking around the house quite a bit today bugging her while she was sewing--I'm betting she had never been so happy to have him bugging her. I think he is finally starting to show some promise for recovery. I also must report that all lizards henceforth, both at zoo and home, will be known as "Goofy Azz Lizards"...just because they are. |

Veteran 940 Citrus Heights, CA | Subject: RE: Mad Manatee Mentors 2013: CLOSED (exc/ Pop Tart bribes) Oh yeah...So I am signed up for next weekend to do the "Tough n' Dirty" 5k Mud Run on Saturday, and then the Auburn International Triathlon on Sunday--well. Auburn is a RIDICULOUSLY tough course--whether you choose the Mini, International, or "World's Toughest Half" course, they all destroy triathletes. As most of the pod knows, I have been dealing with sick dad issues, school issues, and the usual work and $$$ issues...My training has SUCKED. I am considering switching my Auburn race to the Mini distance, as I know I will feel reasonably okay at it (Don't get me wrong, it will NOT be easy--It is STILL a challenge, just shorter.). By the same token, I am somewhat/kinda sure that I can complete the International distance, but it will not be pretty, and I will probably be wishing for death during and after the race. My question is O pod: What would y'all do? the mini or the inti? I am going back and forth as I find good (and bad)reasons for each...maybe some outside clarity would help. |

I am off of work for a week and a half after that, but it IS finals week, so I do have a lot of writing and studying to do. |
